Brainstorm to make the Competitive scene grow

But seriously, to increase the competitive SCENE there is really one major way.
-To Get More Players
This will lead to
-more organizations interested in CF which leads to more tournaments
So how can we, as players, increase the number of competitive players?
-"Refer a Friend" - just invite your friends to play CF
- Advertising CF - This is done by creating youtube videos, blogging, etc. However, most of the time, only the already CF-playing people watch these videos or read the blogs. So we have to reach out to other communities to advertise CF this way.
-Convert pubstars into competitive players - I don't know about you guys, but back when I pubbed and was semi-competitive I would ask good players (or so they seemed good, chances are pubstars can improve drastically) in pubs to join my team. From there I introduced them to the competitive side and they stayed around for a good while.
-Improve the attitude of the current competitive scene - Players currently look down upon the community yet they are a part of it. Not only this but we have a bunch of "week to week" teams that don't even finish a tournament they started. ex. Why would any organization want to be a part of a CF-tournament that only has 16 active teams out of the 32 that signed up?
Well that's my input... take it for what it is. If you want to have a more competitive CF, you need to do something about it -
more money => more tournaments and leagues => more competitive scene
People need a reason to play, bragging rights help but sometimes are not enough. There needs to be more legit competitive activity as opposed to a team throwing a cup. As much as it does help, its just practice. There needs to be more high stakes competitive aspect with real things on the line, IE $$$/prizes.
In addition, I do feel the community needs to improve but im not going to push that issue as I don't like beating dead horses. My opinions on what a community should be are idealistic and not possible here.
Z8 should also do more to promote competitive play, but they won't as it brings them no income.
It is a vicious cycle in regards to z8, it doesn't bring them money so they don't invest in it and it doesn't grow and bring in money because they won't invest in it. -

Agreed. But money can only be generated by an increase in the number of players. It's a full circle cycle. So people need to have an interest in the game and because cf rarely advertises, we need to be the ones to increase the player base. -

lol I edited my post before I saw this and said the same thing in regards to z8. -
one way we can invite players to the competitive scene such as (pubstars) is maybe having double headers every Sunday being broadcast.
When I saw the Wogl cast vs Trio vs LifeLine that madee me wanna join the competitive scene.
The issue with that is alot of pubstars don't regularly view the forums and wouldn't see said cast. if z8 would promote the cast, it might be more effective. I don't think leaving it on youtube will get it enough interest. For example, if they made a announcement on the patcher splash page, it would be much more effective.
hell even if they updated the competitive page once in a while it would help. If someone went to that page first, they would get the assumption the competitive scene is dead. -
I personally believe cf has a wide range of pub players, if you ever went to clan wars, some of those people are really good even if they take out their armor and spops , their aim is great. Best way is too try and move these players into the competitive scene. The problem with that is that all this discrimination is going on between players and the immaturity of the community is really shining bright atm. People need to understand that going from echo 8 to fox 9 move us backwards instead of advancing for the competitive community.

Well there are many things that need to be done to keep competitive Crossfire alive as well as make it grow.
Step 1 (Z8): Start from the bottom up. Z8 Games needs to make some changes if they want to help the competitive community of crossfire grow. They need to help with setting up competitive events as well as putting up prizes for these events. Furthermore z8 needs to keep the competitive tabs on the website up to date so that new players to the competitive scene have a way to learn about it more.
Step 2 (Growth): There are many ways to grow the community. The first one is simple yet overlooked and that is dig in to the players who already play. You can do this personally and by z8 doing it. As a competitive player, you should be going to pub clans and trying to get them interested in competitive crossfire, respectively z8 should be doing the same thing whether its through prizes to entice pub players or just a chance to play a game competitively I think this alone would be a good start.
Step 3 (Publicity): Z8 in my opinion as well as its players do not do a good job of promoting the game itself. This could be done through streams, casts, live events, and advertising. When z8 focused on competitive players doing big things like bag in 2010 the competitive scene was much more thriving, and partly why I joined. Streams and casts also need to become popular. To get the competitive scene out there we have to work on getting stream numbers and cast views to help boost the community. I am currently working on a side project and will most likely get GECKS to cast for this. It involves some big names helping me to promote crossfire that I will have more details on at a later date. I will also continue to promote my Crossfire Ranked League as something for everyone not just current competitive players to join.
Step 4 (Community): The number one problem with this community is the way it acts towards other players within the community. If this community had the maturity and respect to HELP players that are just starting out in competitive play instead of constantly criticizing them until they quit, we would have a larger player base and stronger community. To get to this point, we just need to as a community put an end to the presence of trolling each other for no reasons and bashing other players and teams. This community needs to be one that new players can join and feel like they are part of a respectable and professional group of competitive players.
What I hope these things can bring in the future:
1 - I want a more respectable and professional acting community
2- I want a larger community that will embrace and help new players
3- I want to promote the game through streams casts and live events
4- I want there to be fun events such as LANs and Leagues that bring the community together
5- I hope that this community will step up and do what is needed to keep this game thriving, because in all honesty it is my favorite game.
Thanks for taking the time to read my views, if you would like to talk with me leave a reply or add me on xfire: zzxq -

It might be possible to set this up now. For example in a similar sense how esea has lessons. (Only obviously don't charge) Set up a xfire list or a thread with a list of players willing to help new players in the competitive scene. -
Do you guys think z8 really WANTS a competitive community at this point?
You guys have been a constant pain in the ass for a very long time, you bring nothing to the game, and you shiit on everything people try and do for you.
z8's partnership with WOGL? lel
We don't spent money on the game (generally speaking, unless you want to buy a bunch of crap, you could get by without spending a dime), and the forums are a mess (used to be way worse back when things were active).
You can't promote this game so well when the community is in such a state, just like you wouldn't bring a girl home until your bedroom is clean...so clean up your act and then we can work on figuring out how to grow the scene.
Leagues would be ideal, but those cost money and take lots of time. I'm happy with cups right now. Its a shame the community isn't trusted, because I don't think it would be a far stretch for z8 to have worked with us and handed out some zp prizes for the winning team. Unfortunately, we don't deserve that...and if z8 won't hook us up, what makes you think some established league is going to take a chance. -
been said so many times before and either nothing worked or nothing happened altogether. only need to go through a few threads here to see that its a waste of time looking at most of the people lol. getting pub players across is easy and would give you more players, for a day or two. but dont think its going nowhere anymore best of luck tho
-
Bruce oh how you doubt z8. I am currently working with them on my CF ranked League set to take off shortly after the Presidential cup.
After talking with Saidin he has offered as follows:
- Putting up Prizes for CFRL
- Promoting the league on the homepage of z8
- Updating the CF competitive tab of the website
- Working to try and get an AC setup for this event
- Working to get the pub community involved
z8 WANTS a competitive community its just that we have to step up and work together as a community if we want it to grow and thrive. If we approach things with maturity and respect I think we can get some great events in 2013. -
I don't know how to articulate it right now, let me try again:
Yes, z8 WANT a competitive community, every game does.
but
It's been WAYYYY more trouble than it's been worth I think. All this bickering on the forums, the WOGL dilemma, and I'm sure there are plenty of other things that I haven't been around for that just make the whole situation nasty. -
THEREALDAG wrote: »keep the obnoxious cheating lowbobs in check and then you'll attract more people
And thats unfortunately down to us because we're all familiar with the support ticket system.
Rest assured, cheaters will gain a reputation, and this LAN event should be fun. -
Well I am hoping my event will help the community. It should come together quite well I think. Promote this event as it will probably have more teams than WCG and FG LAN.
I hope it all works out! I hope you guys also take a strict approach to cheating and immaturity; and don't let it ruin the event. Also, xfire:mrbll for that list regarding helping new players. I don't play anymore but I am more than willing to help anyone with my knowledge (or lack of knowledge compared to some players) -

Don't put money on it. The thing about people on the internet is they are rarely like that in person. Everyone will be calm and polite at lan. -
Provide internet service and computers to those in Africa.
Introduce them to crossfire.
Because of their lack of technology they'll believe crossfire is the best game to date.

You're first idea was better. Your second was just unrealistic and stupid....

Well worth the read. Well said.
Too bad not half of that is going to ever happen. Chances are very small seeing the kind of people that exist in CF. -
Focus on the LAN that's coming up, after that "leagues" and/or "z8games" see that this LAN was successful maybe other people will take a peek at the game. The reason is that the LAN has MONEY put into it which makes it a great way to be more organized and have more people looking towards it.The game has potential we just need to work together and keep cheaters/trolling to a minimum, as this is shown in China, Vietnam, Russia, Brazil, Philippines, Japan. After speaking with them it's really big in those countries and it's up to us to change. Just speaking to Japan they had 128 teams in their National Qualifier and they participate at LANS often.
The Asian countries based from my perspective are much more dedicated and humble to the game they play and respect other players and that's why they are able to have a better community than ourselves. -

It's all about the players.
