The Reason Why I Think Z8 Blocks Odd Words

i dont see any reason for chat filtering the word noob. For me its not insult if i kill that player and he starts to say omg you are a noob i allways respond to him noob did pwnd you.so basicly to me was not a threat at all.so what now what word we could use except amature(long time to spell it(to lazy ) )
i dont see any reason to filter that word lol.If u take it alot personal if u are called a noob then its freaking funny because u rage over 1 lil word ^^ -
I think one of the reasons that they don't add an option to turn the filter on or off is because it would encourage more swearing, which may or may not make them lose players (aka money). I think they are just considering that risk, but personally i would love to have a chat filter option. The brazilians, in the other hand, probably couldnt care less since only one of their insults that im aware of are censored.

Yeah, that's a good point you have.
I think their priority should be to fix the glitches with phrases including profanity. -
cf really does.t lisen to the community look at the patch we just got they give us thing we nevedr ask for the thing we ask they dont give us
i never saw a post saying i want sewegs or kukri maybe 1 or 2 about the m.o.s but thats it
what about challenge mode or the berrtaaa-sniper or the_nuke map nooo never but what we don't want thats what will get
maybe if z8 woud lisen more to the player (who give them mony) they woud get more mony
instead of players leaveing the game
Sorry for my bad English (in from Holland)
MAd MAD... MAd about that -

The reason is rather complex, and not one that Z8 would really care to explain. But it all has to do with business.
Like any company, a business needs a way to earn money. Whether it be through physical purchasing, services, online goods or whatever, every company needs money to stay open. Z8's method is by offering you ingame perks for purchasing Z8 points. You rarely get anything permanent with your Z8 points, which many people are outraged about, but there's a very clever marketing reason behind it. Z8's philosophy is that if someone has $20 to buy 20000 ZP, they will have another $20 to buy 20000 more.
It's no accident that the Black Market is so tempting to fork all your ZP into and get very little in return. The overall idea is that you need to give the player reasons to buy more, like the reason of wanting to buy 25 crates for your beloved Gatling Gun over and over again until the weapon is won, even if your odds are 1/10000. Which is brilliant for Z8, as they are getting money in exchange for virtual goods, when the only thing they need to pay for is operating costs, salaries, etc. In the end, it screws the consumer. Z8 doesn't like me saying that, but they sure as hell know it's true. In CrossFire, it's easy to spend a little money, like $10 every week or two, which at first seems like hardly anything at all, but after two years, you easily could have payed a few hundred dollars, which is way more than any other physical game like Call of Duty or Halo costs, which offers everything all-in-one. It's great for Z8, and I have no problem with them doing this, it's the consumer's responsibility to watch what their spending. Z8 is not obligated to tell players about their money making strategies, which from a marketing stand point is fantastic.
But people don't buy ZP for any random reason, they need to think the game is super cool, even if they are terrible at it. If a new player joins a room and players horribly and is called a "noob," there's a 1/1000 chance that the person will be offended and uninstall CrossFire, thus canceling an otherwise potential purchaser of ZP. The same thing with "hacker." If a legitimately good player is called a hacker, the player could potentially get annoyed enough and leave the game for good, again, crossing out a potential buyer. Z8 will deny that it's all about the money, which is a slanderous lie, because money is everything in the private sector. Now that's not to say that they don't offer brilliant services and customer service.
The reason profanity is blocked is a twofold, one, a parent may not want a child playing in a game where the players are allowed to curse. And two, CrossFire is NOT rated for language on Online gameplay by ESRB, as allowing the F and the S word could potentially make Crossfire rated M exclusively for language.
But the funny thing is, all the filters do is just add a minor block in allowing a player to speak freely. Their thinking is:
Oh, they block "noob." So I'll just type "n0ob" instead.
Which makes the blocks completely pointless. Just like the F word easily stated by just omitting the 'c' from the word (same rule applies to "hacker").
So while you may think and not agree with what words are blocked ingame, there is a very logical reason. So you can go ahead and delete your would-be rage post-
(If I came across a little harsh, I apologize, I feel very- odd. I witnessed a pedestrian crossing a highway and being fatally struck by a semi truck at 70 MPH near Denver this morning. The scene was horrific, and I've never thought so deep about something in my life. I've also never seen death first hand- so I feel very awkward as a result, sorry, long explanation :P)
Or they download hacks!
And +1 to this thread! -

Haha, yes some of you may not think it, but noob is kind of offensive. I get abit mad when people call me noob because I can't clutch, plus I'm new to the game, so really can't expect much. I've already been accused of hacking because I went 11-0 in a SnD in UK1(With high rankers) in a way, it's not just saving Z8 money and keeping CF going, help the community to new players, I mean.
Where you suddenly just an Olldie? -
[MOD]Giggletron wrote: »Good theory, but filters for a Teen game are a requirement.
Z8 can pick and choose what they filter and the word Noob is a general insult, not an observation like it was originally intended. Same with hacker. More often the not the person isnt hacking and that can just get annoying.
Besides if there was no chat filter, people would be complaining that there isnt one...
i like this theory... other than the fact its completly useless.
This states we have a filter for offensive language. but it doesnt adress the money making potential, i believe this is because this mod realises that nomatter whats said, the undenyable logic of many word filters are to boost crossfires total income by keeping players from causing others to quit. -

.... How did you get that from what I said?
Teen games are REQUIRED to have a filter.... -
[MOD]Giggletron wrote: »Teen games are REQUIRED to have a filter....
No they are not and most don't, stop treating teenagers as children.
Things you can do in your mid teens, hold a job, live independently, get married, pilot a small plane, have sex, have an abortion, join the armed forces with consent, apply for a passport, drive a car, etc.
This isn't pre-school, 99% of FPS games allow you to curse, certainly allow you to even say noob. -
Btw about the ZP, any company needs money, don't blame the Z8 for it.
BUT....to lie and swindle it from people with a casino styled system is NOT something a reputable company should be doing...
They can claim it as they want, but making the odds of winning even GP crate weapons the way they are where it can take over 500 crates to win something is just plain not fair...it goes against the odds of probability where your GOING to win the item in some fashionable time period after buying oh so many crates or sometime BEFORE then...not after some high number and onward just so they can make a buck.
And as for this word filter junk, for the longest you were not able to say "No skill" to someone...as for WHY, I do not know in the slightest...-__-
But as hard as Z8 want's to try, there really was no point in making the filter so indiscriminate...the day that any child playing games in THIS DAY IN AGE wanting to quit a game because of the word n0.0b (or even a parent making him stop...) is going to be the day that everyone is forced to play stupid casual games that have no point...Anyone want to go play a game of hopscotch in the browser window?
-
For profane words, yes...
But not words that hold no such use, such as noob.
How about this...
IF THE FCC LETS IT BE SAID ON BROADCAST, Let us say it here...
You have to see why it was filtered. Its used as an insult more than anything else. -

Then stop behaving like children.
Yes those are thing you can do, but not younger players. They can do all the things you listed.. theyre still impressionable. Theyll copy what they see on TV or from their parents. Which is why most parents dont swear in front of their childrenBUT....to lie and swindle it from people with a casino styled system is NOT something a reputable company should be doing...

Its a gamble. Go to a casino using the same argument and watch them laugh at you. Nowhere does Z8 say youre guaranteed of winning, nor do they say your not. It is in no way a lie or a swindle. Get real.
People here are just.... wow.
You dont see many mature people here complaining about the filter. People around here need to grow up.'El wrote:[te;2093792']This word has no meaning so I don't see the point of blocking it.
You.. are just.... Im surprised you remember to breath.
The word has several meaning but the most common one ingame is an insult... grow up -

yes they are required to have a filter. but that doesnt mean a company cannot use that filter to there own profit advantage.
im not saying the game doesnt need a filter, i am glad for the filter i for one hate obscene language used in games. im simply saying that they have taken this filter, and used it for there own potential profit. -
'El wrote:[te;2093792']This word has no meaning so I don't see the point of blocking it.
It's because its a cliche, used so much it is meaning less. I also never met anyone who was offended from being called a noob.
Racism yes, even a guy being called a girl in game is more offensive than being called a noob. -

That is incorrect.
Some words in portuguese you can´t spell...I´m not saying which ones obviously. -

Hardly. It probably (heavily used) has that effect but it was not the intention.'El wrote:[te;2093830']This word has no meaning. End of the conversation.
Youre lucky there isnt an infraction option for being dumb. -

He has a point, the term is somewhat a cliche. I've also never meet anyone on cf who was offended for being called a noob, I've also never heard of anyone telling the other person they will report someone for calling a person a noob.
Being called a girl when your a guy is far more offensive than being called a noob. What is a noob? Someone who may not be as good as someone else or has not played as long as someone else did. -

Go into a casino...ah yes! Where yo DO win every so often to KEEP you playing! SNAP! I FORGOT!
>__>
And no, they won't laugh at you. They state clearly that you may win or may lose, but even still playing is FUN...
Now, there is never a VERBAL OR SPOKEN guarantee of winning anything, but IMPLYING THAT THERE IS A CHANGE states in itself that you CAN win by playing...
Now, I know people dislike buying a stupidly large amount of crates monthly and not getting jack shiz because the odds are so damn stacked it would be the equivalent of giving your money away for no reason (Subscription games do way better in the long run because players get what they want the moment they shell out for it...). It in essence is a scam, since the returns are in comparison to the profits are so different.
And at the rate that I can see it, almost every new release gun will go STRAIGHT to the temp ZP shop so Z8 can maximize profits while not truly giving players anything with few guns going to BP and ZP crates...after all...
It's a casino. -

The word is used IN THIS GAME as an insult...
insults are bad. And bad is filtered
How are people NOT getting this... -

No, he was threatening an infraction because the person posted randomly...like he didn't understand English and wanted that old "post X times" badge like last month.
