Becoming a mod 101

Exactly this. Where have you been this entire time?
I dont play the game that much and just browse the forums at night. This topic sparkled my interest. I do not wish to offend anyone, but I can see when someone is not doing their job or doing it wrong. Those "cool" MODs would be the first I replace, after the inactive ones. -

OT: i don't think mods are choosen accordlingly to their contributions to the forums, but more for their behavior and the everyone's approval towards him, like, imagine a guy who's totally helpful on the support threads and answer questions pretty much about everything related to the game (or not), even if he does that, if he isn't community approved, i highly doubt he would be choosen to be a mod .-.
so, it's a mix of factors that combine in some strange way that generates a mod, no patterns were shown to us at all, since we have such a big difference of behaviors of the mods, since the more "childish" and playful behavior from rex, to the more serious and technical behavior shown by dead eye.
yeh, there are a lot of differences in between those mods we have now (DDot, BlindRob, TallonBlaze, D34D3y3x, giggletron, dot, Rex, Us3r and Polleus) -
"With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" -- Too Oftenly used quote.
There is (usually) a good reason as to why one becomes a Mod. Whether it's all-around friendlyness, able to answer critical questions, or simply to capture the malignant part of the community, there has to be a decent reason as to why the MODs are what they are now. -

Don't make me laugh. -

I give people in sight about the mechanics of the game. I give people advice about things that have to do with life. I am a role model. I am more qualified to be a mod than any mod right now, and anybody on the forums, including you who posts unnecessary things to increase your post count. People make threads about me asking for help. I get numerous PM's a day, not just about computer related stuff, but just basic general questions that have to do with their crossfire accounts, etc.
I even get PM's about people's problem in their household, nothing a MOD would get because people don't see them anything else then puppets, which is actually true.
What would gamer want to hear from an Hacker ? Seriously what you can teach us ? Oh about computer ? you even think that I'm dumb because I use a celeron core on one of my computer, (hey noob that computer is pre-second generation core) so get over it.
Also what you can teach us about game mechanics ? How to open a hack ? What kind of intelligent suggestion you made up ? -

If you want tastylimes as a mod:<content removed>
If you want tastylimes as a hunt the tasty mission<content removed>
Just to see how many people think tasty is competent for the role of moderator and how many people think he's just a clown + immoral troll. -

WHAT? I've been here since day 1, December 2008. You sir, have no clue. I was here when there were two GM's and no mods. I was here when there was one post a week on these forums. -

What the f***, they banned you for contesting the usefullness of the MODs??
That would seem an abuse of power, if no insults directed to them were made. Has it really come to this? Praise the MODs and you will be fine or contest their subjectivity and get banned for doing so. I might not know the full extent of the problem, but by looking at the plain facts ( guy complains about MODs openly in a thread, WITHOUT cursing them or whatever, and the next day he is banned ) I cant stop thinking how right he must have been. Is this a comunist forum?
I would advice you to go straight to GM Saidin if such a abuse of power was in effect. I know the MODs do only what they want, not answering to anyone because I too was infracted for speaking my open mind. Giving no names, I repeat myself, at least half of the MODs do not do their job/do it wrong. That is my opinion and you can't do squat about it, because this is democracy and I have not insulted any specific person. If anyone does feel targeted by my writing, it is his own problem to deal with that lack of character.
Have a nice day. -

Personally I haven't seen anything wrong with your writing style so far really, save for a few blunt instances. However just because one can write an insult a different way and sugar coat it, doesn't stop from making it what it truly is; an insult. If the world worked like as you said 'suck it up since you lack character', then we'd never have wars or conflicts. However, its not up to you to decide if its appropriate. Since, although the net is a free place, you are under the terms and overview of a company. Think of it as traveling to a different country, in yours things work differently. But there, its a whole new different game. What didn't bother people back home, could set off works there.
But I agree, if someone is abusing powers they shouldn't even under the guidelines, its within ones power to do something about it. -

I didn't say the world worked like that or anything related to that. I merely said that if some people will feel targeted by my lines, they should blame it on their own faults. Why feel guilty about something if you are not guilty? If someone would recognize that they did not do their job right, they should not blame myself for pointing that out, but their own nature/lack of character. In any case, you are not one of those MODs I spoke of in the previous post, as I have seen you a lot on the forum and all your replies have been in a objective and orderly fashion, of which I have nothing to complain. From my point of view you are doing a great job and the impression that comes of you posts is that of calm and resolution. I honestly hope that my words of praise will not change your attitude for the future, for it would be a shame if you became a "cool" MOD with slick replies to everything/anyone. -

Haha, I'm anything but a 'cool' anything. XD So I don't think you have any worries of that happening anytime soon. But yes, there's a fine line even for us MODs. My little quip wasn't exactly in defense of MODs but more of people in general. Nor directed at you, just in case I misinterpreted that. I'm definitely one for good solid debates, kept orderly and clean. As long as somebody isn't on the blunt end for voicing a solid opinion, or the opinion isn't mean to bludgeon someone else. But like in real world, if an employee is acting out of line, a customer should report to the manager and avoid conflict. Same thing for us MODs. We may be volunteers, but doesn't make us any less responsible. I know I ragged out a few MODs in my time for doing things they weren't supposed to, lol. Mind you, my methods weren't exactly something I'm proud of.
At the end of the day though, we're just players like everyone else. Guess thats what some people don't always understand is that despite this tag we got beside our names, we're not that different. -
