Malicious Software Detection and updates
Hello Cross Fire Gamers!
Z8Games has once again taken strides to improve the game and keep the people breaking our rules to a minimum.
First X-Trap has been patching numerous times. These patches for x-trap are working on some of the issues our players have been experiencing. XP64 should load the game fine at this point. And we are working with xtrap to find a solution to the mouse issues that some of our gamers are experiencing.
However this is not all we are doing. Today, we will be starting an automated detection and discipline process within our game. We have done this once before however there were holes and problems with the way we approached it. We needed more time and more technology to make this new process happen.
Unfortunately we can not go into full disclosure on what we are detecting. This would give an advantage to the hackers themselves. However we ask for your trust and understanding that we are able to detect a multitude of malicious software programs that are being used in the game. But in the interest of complete disclosure and to stop the frustration, this process is not going to stop every malicious program 100% of the time. So please don't run around and make a bunch of threads with "there's still a hacker in the game". This process is ongoing and always evolving. So lets keep that in mind before the raging ensues.
We should also include that this auto-detection and auto-discipline process holds no reservations on the type of user. Whether the user is the highest level, or has the most ZP items. Or is an alternate account, or whatever the case may be. If you break our rules, action will be taken against you.
The discipline process will also remain private. Mostly because over time this process will change. We will be starting with a set 'period of time' ban for the account. As we move forward repeat accounts will be met with harsher punishment. We can also tell you that this first step is going to affect a lot of people. Which is disappointing for us, but necessary to make sure that everyone who hacks this game understands that we can detect it, and take action against you. We take this situation very seriously and are not stopping until we're satisfied.
We log every action that happens on a players accounts. So repeat offenders are just as easy for us to find as the hacks themselves. So you have been warned (again).
This process is also happening in addition to our regular hack checking and banning process.
We understand that to some, the punishment may seem like we aren't doing enough to people breaking the rules. To respond to that, Z8Games would like to make everyone aware that we are working with the tools we have to create this automated process. We want to change the mentality of the people hacking in our game. To one where if you hack you can't get away with it. And as mentioned, over time, the process will change and modify as it gets better, less hackers appear and the game cleans itself up.
We hope that you see the work that we're doing and that this next major step taken will help turn the game into a much more enjoyable place to play.

So this is an improved method than last time it was attempted that was horribly circumnavigated? I'm hoping this will be very effective as it will make everyone's job easier.
It's improved and we are better prepared to keep this system active as well as make necessary changes when needed. So yes we hope that this will help a lot of things.
As usual please continue to report hackers through our support system.
As we've said, this is not going to stop all hacks, or all hackers. That will exist in our game and we may never be able to stop it 100%. But this is a large step in the right direction. -

Good to hear, hopefully they won't have as easy of a time doing so this time around. Keep up the good work, a rather nice surprise indeed. -
So this means we still have to report right?
Reporting has always been an option. And we have plenty of backlogged cases and are continuing to issue bans based on reports.
So yes, please continue to report hackers if you see them. This process is acting as a supplementary system. It is not meant to take over all hack reporting and all hack banning. -
I've had "hack detected" two or three times recently, and I do not hack. If I get this while not hacking, but the system thinks I am and acts accordingly, will I have a chance to get my account back even if I have no proof? eg, can you check to see if the hack detected was real.

Often that particular message happens with some anti virus systems. It should not be affected on this.
The "hack detected" error message is a badly translated error and could mean many things. It is separate from this recent action. You can submit a support ticket though if you feel something is wrong. -

So I can hack as long as I like just as long as I'm not caught, and if I am caught simply stop after/if I get a couple/few of warnings?
These people literally ruin the game for many and are given chance after chance, I would say this discipline process simply tells people we are not strict on hackers thus creating an atmosphere where hacking is almost seen as a misdemeanor inviting the old hackers to carry on and new ones to start hacking (even decent members).
I understand banning customers and potential costumers (hackers) is not a great idea but the amount Z8 will lose because people are leaving due to players hacking will surpass that amount gained, if any, from the hacking noobs and simply damages your own reputation. -

It isn't saying we aren't strict on hackers....I think they are just trying to give people second chances. They probably realize that a lot of the hackers are just little kids trying to have a bit of fun, and when they see that their actions have consequences....they won't be messing around with hacks anymore. -
This is great and gives some hope! Indeed! But... I guess good GM players will still be kicked as usual because they "hack". The majority of players won't even know for this thing and for them hacks will be there no matter what. I suggest you to put this as in-game message for at least a week(just like the one saying there will be update, etc.) so all may read it. Are considering some tweaks for the vote kick system?
