Think about CF Europe, CF Brasil, CF China... all go to a new version?!

Would be awesome if game would update at same rate in all regions and have same items in store at same prices, like LoL.

It doesn't mention that anywhere from what I can see. And I doubt they could release 'normal' game within 3-4 months.

    No, it's not.
They added the part of re-launching Crossfire on Korea as a heads-up.
But it does not say that the project is only for Korea.
  • Well if CF2 goes global or comes to NA, I'll play it if my account can transfer or be compensated lol

I imagine a CF where at least most of my shots register. Ahh, paradise.

Indeed, but you did forgot about cheaters. It would be such a waste of time ingame if the hackers could already hack on cf2 :/

Different engine means no current cheats would work.

Mind you, it might of course be possible to make new ones, but under completely different conditions, and with great difficulty compared to now.
  • Even CS:GO has cheaters (especially in competitive mode). Nothing can stop hackers. In a couple months they will figure out how to screw with CF 2 after it launches.

will take less than a week
  • No game is hack proof. Sad but true. Paid games just tend to have better hack prevention due to a more steady income then a F2P but the hacks are common in both and can't be stopped.

I mean for console I can go buy a controller with preloaded hacks built into it. Let alone PC the options are endless really on what you can do to manipulate things and generate a work around etc.

Paid games tend to have less cheaters on multiplayer though, since it connects to your physical person in a more direct way, through credit card payment, steam account or whathaveyou.

Any product you can manipulate without real repercussions are bound to be manipulated.

I'm just saying this cause I don't reaaaaally buy the money argument completely, since f2p with microtransactions are very much profitable, probably way more relative to p2p of similar popularity without any income except the first purchase.

^ this is true, p2p games don't profit as much as free2play.
A great example would be Team Fortress, pay once and everything was accessible.
Now that Valve has made it f2p, they charge for the stuff on the workshop/store.
  • MOAR POLYGONS!!

In all honesty though, I may definitely play CF2, if it ever becomes reality. I'm building a new rig in the coming months so it'd be something to look forward to. I hope that accounts/items would be transferable, however. I also hope that CF2 isn't released as a separate game, but is just a massive upgrade to the current Crossfire's engine, etc.

But they say in Korea was CF a flop, now comes CF 2 for Korea with the hope this version will be a success!

    No it doesn't.

It says, Smilegate is working on CF2.
And since this article, if you read correctly, was on a South Korea article, they added the part of Smilegate relaunching CF there.
  • As a person who's been following online games for a long time (especially korean/chinese) I'll just post this even if it's just what i think.

So all those articles that have been appearing lately about CF2 are actually.. not very trustful (unknown sources and etc). The reason why they are all talking about the game being CF2 is because some time ago earlier this year SmileyGate got UE3 license for 2 games and what is knows is that one of those 2 games is a FPS (just a note - no name mentioned so it could as well as be another game and not CF2). Then on their website (i don't know when but I suppose it happened a little earlier before the first article about CF2) a new job position opened for their FPS project. So from that we can assume they are working on a new FPS game - the reason why the writers of the articles called it CF2 is because it's smileygate and they already have 1 FPS game - if they were to make another it will be a 50/50 chance that the game is a second version of the previous.

As for the people asking how this will work (the accounts and such) well basically here nothing will change. This will just be a new game. Don't look at it as a new version of CF you won't get your guns transferred or anything like that it's a totally different game running on a different engine and probably the only similarity will be terms, modes and maybe a few maps you never know it might even be a sci-fi shooter in space where players fight against alien AI. They haven't revealed any info about it yet so don't get your hopes up.
  • they specified CrossFire

Yes just checked the smileygate site and saw it didn't see it before as it was on the bottom of the job list. Guess it is CF2 but still the above about the accounts and items applies

Judging by when the first information on their website was posted I suppose the game will be out in Korea at earliest 2015 so it would take about 3-4 years until it gets here (if they don't do something because of the popularity of the game over here compared to the smaller online games)

Honestly, it's kinda obvious it will be CF2, like it's mentioned in the article Crossfire is one of the biggest FPS games out there, worldwide.
The BIGGEST setback is the game engine, making it hard to get to the actual top.
Practically just like Soldier Front got an engine update, I can see CF getting one also.
It would bring A LOT more people in, plus other things.

SF1 plays like a wreck, it's a horrible game where the movement looks terrible. Just so ugly, a poor man's CS 1.6.

    SF2>SF1

    beg to differ, but ok
  • I highly doubt you would be able to transfer accounts, seeing that they're two different games.

If it is indeed CF2 and not just another shooter that happens to be developed by SG, I think account transfers is something that needs serious discussion.

If it's not CF2 but simply another shooter, it'd obviously be impossible to transfer anything, and completely irrelevant.
Ain't like people expect their WoW stuff to be transferred every time Blizzard makes a new game.

    others;
Korea only - I thinks nots.
CF didn't excel in Korea, but I seriously doubt graphics were the only reason.
A relaunch attempt in the region seems likely, but making a "CF2" just to get that user base.. I thinks nots.

Yes i agree it is cf2 i did say that in my next post but in the 5'6 years that i have been following asian online games i have seen many articles like this based on small amount of information and turn to be wrong. As for the transfer probably won't happen. SG is just using the name of the game and probably elements of the game but it is a new beginning - it would be too much of a loss for them as developers if you could transfer your acc from one to another version of the game. It is normal to be like this as probably the games will have big diferences (item databise wise)

Didn't notice the other post, hahahaha.
But yeah, maybe it could be hard but maybe it couldn't.
I don't know about programming or video game design so I really can't state an opinion.

If it's launched as a separate game, and then probably not even under the CrossFire name or at least from a publisher that isn't G4, transfers seem unlikely.

But G4 dropping CF and every account related to that, and instead starting new with "CF2" and without transfers would be a marketing disaster. This won't happen unless transfers happen.

Option three is of course G4 publishing "CF2" but maintaining both 'versions' simultaneously. This also without transfer obviously as theres no need.
But that would be extremely unwise financially.

It's fun to speculate. We're no doubt very far from this today anyway, no need to worry for anyone.

and please note that this is my personal speculations (as someone who haven't been in the asian fps game for six years), i'm not in the industry nor in this post representing g4/z8games in any way.

    You bring very valid points.

As far as I can see, it'll either be published by another company and CF will stay running with G4, only difference would be that CF2 will get new content and CF wouldn't.

Actually this is the most likely choice. I can't seem to remember now but I'm sure i was following a few games and they did exactly this and are still going pretty well with both versions. One of these games is Cabal Online where a year or so ago the second version came out in Korea and both seem to be maintaining popularity pretty good over there. And also don't forget new game will be build with the Unreal engine - meaning requirements for a better PC which means that this CF will have a bigger range of targeted players and will still bring an income for the next few years. There might of course be some kind of bonuses for the players of both versions (maybe some kind of limited item that only people that have played here get?)

But with CF there's also the possibility of CF2 replacing the first one because.. well UE is getting pretty old and many people have good enough PCs to run it so before CF2 comes out chances are everyone will have a good PC
  • It'll be interesting to see if Crossfire will shutdown when Crossfire 2 is release, as War Rock was shutdown when War Rock 2 was released (and now it's like a ghost town because of that).

It depends on when CF2 comes out and the popularity of CF in that moment - as long as CF can bring them enough income there's no reason to shut it down. But knowing that we won't get to play CF 2 (at least in NA/EU) for the next 4-5 or maybe more years, probably CF will be dead by then
