A Guaranteed Way of Improving FPS
THIS METHOD INVOLVES OPENING A COMPUERS CASE AND MESSING WITH COMPONENTS. DO NOT TRY WITH A LAPTOP. DO NOT TRY IF YOU HAVEN'T ANY CLUE WHAT THE COMPONENTS OF YOUR COMPUTER ARE OR HOW TO IDENTIFY THEM.
So I saw some threads on how to improve FPS, and most said to kill other applications taking CPU processing. This may increase your FPS but not by a lot. The main cause of FPS drop in most computers is dust. Dust causes static electricity on components and can lead to electromagnetic interference. My method is simple and really effective. Depending on how old your computer is, and the amount of collected dust, FPS can improve by 120+.
Method
1. Get a vacuum cleaner and attach the brush nozzle.
2. GROUND YOURSELF! Your body can generate and hold static electricity because of your clothes. To ground yourself just make sure you're barefoot and touch something made of iron.
3. Start cleaning. Make sure to keep grounding yourself so you won't damage components. The main components to go for are fans, video card, and the PSU, the power supply unit. Generally give you computer an overall clean.
Tips
If you have an integrated graphics card, just clean your motherboard.
If you are worried about using a vacuum cleaner, you can use canned air.
This should improve your FPS by a lot if you haven't done this before.
Good luck and have fun.

cleaning the PSU... oh god.
also, most people with FPS problems have an integrated video card, which means they can't clean much except for the processor.
also, it's only effective if your PC is overheating (if your PC overheats, your performance can degrade) but otherwise, nothing changes.
EDIT:
adding some more.
I'd not use a vacuum cleaner since some people said that it can break parts. doubt that's true but use canned air just in case. -

This method can work with integrated video cards by cleaning the motherboard. Overheating isn't caused by dust. This thread is purely about dust related problems
I will add the integrated video card issue in. Thank you for informing me. -

overheating is caused by dust, overclocking or cooling problems.
I once had my gpu go up to 91 celsius because I hadn't cleaned the dust out of its fan for years.
doubt about the motherboard thing, by the way.
the integrated GPU is done within the chipset. -

The dust only causes overheating indirectly by causing static electricity. By eliminating this, many problems can be solved. I did this with my own computer and my FPS increased from 80 to 220.
I understand your thoughts in dust causing overheating, but it is very minor when compared to overclocking and cooling issues. -

It's dependent on:
- How old you computer is.
- How much dust there is.
- How long since you last cleaned it.
- How much ventilation there is.
Since the FPS cap is 250 (I think), its hard to even reach 120+ FPS. When I did this I went from 80 to 220 as mentioned before.
This method works, if done properly. If done regularly, you can maintain your computer's performance rates. -

I have a 12 year old desktop, hope I can fix myself.
I don't have the internet speed to be able to upload videos effectively. I'm sorry, but if you have any questions or if you need my to specifically clarify something please post. Otherwise the instructions are pretty self-explanatory. -

Yes but you might has well kicked you're computer to bits, and then burnt it. By doing so you will probably have corrupted multiple files, and you WILL need to get a replacement. -

I did a HSC course of IPT, so I know how a computer works, like how a mechanic knows how every little component of an engine works. I myself am not up to date with current hardware components so I cannot help you. -
Sorry this is off topic but I was looking at your sig and you own minimi..is it worth spinning for?
I reckon the MINIMI is the best MG in the game, besides the gatling. However you are limited to spraying or tapping, so if you can control high amounts of recoil go for it. I am aware that there are better guns on the BM to go for such as the patriot, but if you play for fun like I do the MINIMI is one of the best guns to entertain yourself with.
Overall, its not easy to use and not too hard. When you rush in and spray, kill nobody and die, you will laugh at yourself and say meh that was fun. -

True, best MG evar
PS: I got minimi xmas and I have hella fun using it. -
I am going to stress one last time. Dust can cause overheating, but it is not as significant as overclocking your CPU and having poor air flow. In large amounts and left unattended, dust build up can cause overheating. However, this thread is about FPS, not overheating so I focus on things that are relevant to FPS drop and increase. Overheating is relevant to overall performance, but static electricity causing electromagnetic interference is a direct cause of FPS drop whereas overheating is indirect.

A Guaranteed Way of Improving FPS
Well
1) Clean up your registry, fix your PC errors blah blah blah
or
2) Upgrade your PC's components ( for example, if you have an old graphics card, buy a new one etc )
or
3) Buy a new PC * with good specs :P *
And make sure that your PC doesn't overheat.
That's about it -

Well obviously you need a standard of knowledge to be able to do this. My way can be followed by anyone who has the guts to vacuum clean their computer. -
