Fix the filtering/cencoring

I hate it when this appears.

"...Aren't those ???ers ???lous.. ??? I can't stand them, they're just lowering their country's re???tion. Bu???s just a game??"

Correction

"...Aren't those hackers ridiculous.. Jesus I can't stand them, they're just lowering their country's reputation. But it's just a game??"

Fix, fix, fix, fix.

  • yah it happens alot to me that if i wrote a word in other language like "faker" which is an arabic word it is turned to ???er :S
  • Honestly, it's a game with blood and gore, with people shooting, stabbing and blowing eachother up. If you ask me the filtering shouldn't even be put in the game in the first place.
  • Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous. I can't even type 'afk', which is one of the most used phrases online.
  • I can't even type "with axe" blocks ***...
  • The censoring is pointless because everyone bypass it.

The only one annoying me is "awesome".
  • Bah Humbug

Agreed - its pointless and annoying.

If they are really worried about offending people then the 11,12,13 yr old kids should be filtered out of the game. Perhaps they could have their own server and chat channel :P

Crossfire is unofficially rated as a 'Teen' game. Having no censor at all will boost it to adult only.
I do agree that censorship of some words is probably not legitimately justified. Words like AFK or awesome have no reason to be blocked, yet they still are. Maybe it will change in the future, I can re-call some time ago when the word 'Noob' was actually banned so who knows.
  • 1. Who cares about unofficial ratings? Also, pretty much everyone will play it anyway, regardless of the rating...
    2. What Fate4Hate said. A shooter game really doesn't need a bad language filter.
    3. What MisterMunzta said.

    Af.k now.

    1. I'm assuming a fair amount of the players who play Crossfire are under the age of 18. This is just an assumption but from my experience, I'm pretty sure this is true. Some people might ignore the rating but making it adult rated could theoretically have financial implications for the company. Reducing the risk of this just by adding a censor? It's a complete no-brainer.

    2. These games have a language filter for a reason. Sure, it may be easy to bypass, but at least the developers are making an effort to keep the game clean.

    3. I do agree with you that the bypass does have it's extremes. Words like "awesome" and obviously "AFK" come to mind.
  • yea have to rewrite always with . to make people clear abt it
  • AFK is censored because of the "FK". A common abbreviation of, well... you know. Which in and of itself is stupid and futile when there are so many other usable abbreviations for F-bombs. Derp-durr-da-derp-derp....DERP DERP!

    I hate censorship.

It was blocked for a famous cheating website. It's uncensored now though I think.
  • To be honest I think that the censorship should be removed because regardless of what word they block everyone always finds away around the censorship to type the word which makes the censorship just more annoying that useful because it ends up censoring words that the when they join together they make a blocked word.

True, the only thing that should be censored is www. and .com/net/org or whatever the kind of website is to prevent spamming.

www., .com, .org and .(whatever) have already been filtered for awhile. The thing is that it still is VERY easy to bypass filters.

I've never really liked the filter that much either, mostly because it filters completely valid words like "fake" and "ridiculous", but keep in mind that it is here for a reason. It might get improved a bit in the future, but who knows? I would love it and I assume that a lot of other people would aswell.

Also, just try to think what would happen if the filter was just removed. I'd rather have players write ??? all the time than having to read violent words being thrown left and right because of arrogance. People could also freely spam hack sites easily because www., .com, .net and others are no longer blocked. The filter is also here because this is a teen rated game. So if the filter was removed, then the rating most likely will have to change.

Though, these are only some of my thoughts. Feel free to continue the discussion, but if it gets out of hand I will have to close it.

I know, I meant website extensions should stay to avoid spam and all of the others should be removed, that's just my opinion. I know it's easy to bypass by just changing a . for , or whatever.

Ahh alright, misunderstood it then. I prob skipped a word or something when I read it, because right now even I don't know how I managed to misinterpret it. :[
  • The only reason the filter is there is for legal reasons. CF can now be legally rated "Teen" because of the filter which can increase revenue significantly.

Seriously I have not seen one effective filtering system ever. They are all just there for show.

My suggestion: remove the Macros and decrease messages able to be typed before the 10 second block.
  • Filtering is so bad this time, I guess you will fix this in future?

lol that is what i said :/ especially when this is a ''T'' for teen game. teens swear! ahah the last time i posted this type of suggestion i got an infraction for ''By passing censorship'' aha
    for using a n example :( lol
