Is the competitive scene still strong for Crossfire?

This is an excellent thread. GM is taking the comments very well. Constructive comments should always welcomed, and so this is a good sign.
I have noticed fewer cheaters since the last major patch (still some cheaters but fewer). If we can eliminated most of the cheaters, it will be a very significant and crucial major step toward establishing this game as a respectable franchise.
You can not attract serious competitive players to play this game if they have to constantly deal with cheaters.
CFCN has been doing extremely well, granted that Tencent is a very large company that can spend money and resources to promote the game. It is also convient that Tencent owns QQ which is linked to CFNA accounts (I think) and somehow they are able to deter cheaters.
I have seen a few CFNA competition videos on youtube, which were very nice. There should be more of them. Perhaps create a video channel that has all competition videos either hosted by Z8 or hosted on 3rd party website like youtube or vimeo.
So I wonder if Z8 has studied CFCN's huge success, and tried to reproduce what worked for CFCN here in NA. CFNA has large scale competitions, like our college sports, regional teams competing for national title. March madness? They have something similar for CF. But I don't know the details, I only saw they have live broadcast and also archives. There are a lot of Chinese expatriates here who play CFNA, maybe we can ask their experiences in CFNA.
Z8 has been doing a really good job given its small resource. The website is running well, servers are good, support is not bad, etc..
I also want to say demographically only more mature players have the caliber to run and maintain a high level community. While games like BF3 do have older players, CF can hold on its own in terms of game mode and user friendliness, etc. Younger players tend to have shorter attention span, and can get bored easily and change to other games. Mature players are more loyal and have means to contribute intellectually and financially if necessary and reasonable.
Use utilize social media like Facebook and Twitter (no Twitter for CF) more. An example would be, encourage players to visit Facebook page and share the wall posts, maybe a small amount of GP (300?) will be rewarded for each sharing. It will definitely broaden the reach.
Lastly, more specific, I think CF needs a voice chat built-in. It is the easiest way to communicate with other players and make friends. Playing with friends is one major reason we are on CF. All Chinese CFCN players use YY, which is like a voice chat I think, and they use YY only. Imagine logging on the game and talking to all your friends. Facebook is successful because of friends sharing with each other. -

You have no idea what you are talking about. The effort is appreciated, but please stick to the off-topic section. Every online game has cheaters. There are even cheaters who play in competitive environments. There is no way to completely remove cheaters.
What you are referring to are tournaments/leagues. We do have those in our version. We just don't have them on the same scale. You can't run those caliber of events without money. Hence brings us back to Saidin's post. Saidin is asking the community to seek out the means to run these large tournaments, rather than having z8games front the pot.
If you would of read the thread, you would of realized that your post is just repeating what other people have already said. Also please stop making excuses for the community being sub-par. It isn't helping the cause. -

I hope this won't get personal but attacking me by saying I don't know what I am talking about is just not helpful.
I believe that this thread is very sincere and earnest. I really hope no one takes suggestions and comments the wrong way.
No one seems to be saying that we have to do anything drastic and immediately. We are talking about the future, envisioning what can happen perhaps years from now---nothing wrong with that. -

Don't take offense to what I post below. It is OK to be wrong. The key is to realize when you are wrong, or out of your element.
You don't know what you are talking about. It's quite obvious if you just read what you typed. It's all roses and rainbows that this is a sincere thread. You can be as sincere as you want, but if you are wrong you are wrong. No we are talking about how to remedy the problems facing the competitive community in the short term.
EVERYONE IS SAYING SOMETHING DRASTIC NEEDS TO BE DONE IMMEDIATELY. I don't think you realize how easy it is for competitive communities to die. If ESG fails there is a very good chance that competitive crossfire will cease to exist. A game needs exposure and large cash tournaments to survive competitively. Our version right now has very little of both. If we as a community fail to act, we will not survive.
While your suggestions are nice, it is quite obvious you didn't think of how they relate competitive gaming.
Let's do a quick analysis of the thread so far:

A few more posts and here we are.
Community: We want tournaments/competitions with cash prizes. We also would like the opportunity to LAN.
z8/g4box: We would love to support you in this fashion. However we don't have the resources available. It just isn't feasible at the moment. You (the community) are going to have to take the first steps.
Just like in most things, CASH is the factor that makes all of this difficult. Both sides are 100% right. We this leaves us is that we as a community need to improve so we can secure some form of reputable competition. Once this happens & the community is developed then the opportunities open up, because now competitive gaming is beneficial for both sides. Even then, it is very hard to turn a profit in the eSports world. Especially for such a small community such as this one.I have noticed fewer cheaters since the last major patch (still some cheaters but fewer). If we can eliminated most of the cheaters, it will be a very significant and crucial major step toward establishing this game as a respectable franchise.
CS 1.6 has a large amount of cheaters. Yet CS 1.6 is considered the premier FPS for esport competitions. Nearly every online game has a problem with cheaters in 1 form or another. Cheats in pubs have very little to do with competitive gaming. You can not attract serious competitive players to play this game if they have to constantly deal with cheaters.
You attract serious competitive players with CASH and trips to LANS. It has nothing to do with the presence of cheaters or not. When leagues and tournaments throw up large prize pools, competitive players show up. Has nothing to do with people using cheats.CFCN has been doing extremely well, granted that Tencent is a very large company that can spend money and resources to promote the game. It is also convient that Tencent owns QQ which is linked to CFNA accounts (I think) and somehow they are able to deter cheaters.
CFCN is doing so well because the number of users is ridiculous. If z8games had the same level of revenue we would be in a much better place. Once again it comes back to money. QQ is not linked to CFNA accounts. You must have a valid QQ number when registering an account on the CNCF.I have seen a few CFNA competition videos on youtube, which were very nice. There should be more of them. Perhaps create a video channel that has all competition videos either hosted by Z8 or hosted on 3rd party website like youtube or vimeo.
Although frag videos and montages are nice to watch. They do very little to help competitive gaming. So I wonder if Z8 has studied CFCN's huge success, and tried to reproduce what worked for CFCN here in NA. CFNA has large scale competitions, like our college sports, regional teams competing for national title. March madness? They have something similar for CF. You keep referring to CFNA when by the context of your sentence it seems you are talking about CFCN. CFCN's success comes from having such a large number of players. Cash is and has been the driving factor in competitive gaming for quite some time. Like I said you should probably not talk about things that you know so little about. Several of these things were addressed in the thread if you just took the time to read it. Our version did several tournaments. WEM and WCG qualifiers are large scale competitions. If there was a stable league/tournament with cash prizes we could continue to have large scale tournaments.Z8 has been doing a really good job given its small resource. The website is running well, servers are good, support is not bad, etc..
Z8 is doing fine for the amount of resources they have. However, it is hard to compete with communities that are much larger than ours. Especially since there are maybe less than 100 serious competitive players in crossfire.I also want to say demographically only more mature players have the caliber to run and maintain a high level community. While games like BF3 do have older players, CF can hold on its own in terms of game mode and user friendliness, etc. Younger players tend to have shorter attention span, and can get bored easily and change to other games. Mature players are more loyal and have means to contribute intellectually and financially if necessary and reasonable.
Like I said before in my previous. Please don't make excuses for our community. This type of attitude hurts us more than anything. Comments like these are why the "It's a f2p game, who cares?" mentality is so prevalent. All of the broodwar/sc2/cs 1.6 professionals were younger players at one point in time. Age has very little to do with competitive gaming. You are talking in terms of pubs. This whole thread has been about building our version's competitive gaming community. People who switch games constantly without playing in leauges/tournaments should not be the target audience we are trying to bring in.Use utilize social media like Facebook and Twitter (no Twitter for CF) more. An example would be, encourage players to visit Facebook page and share the wall posts, maybe a small amount of GP (300?) will be rewarded for each sharing. It will definitely broaden the reach.
This will lead to spam. It's for the same reason they got rid of the Intelligence ribbon, because everyone spammed the forum for 20 posts. Furthermore, this does nothing to help our competitive community. This caters to people who already play crossfire, not attracting competitive players from other games.Lastly, more specific, I think CF needs a voice chat built-in.
YY is just another VoIP program. It is not very different than ventrilo/mumble/team speak. You say CF needs voice chat built in, and then you reference a third party program. Playing with friends is nice, but that doesn't help develop the competitive community. Every Monday and Wednesday when I play CF I log onto mumble and chat with my teammates. People do this already. This isn't something new. Adding in game voice chat does next to nothing to promote a competitive environment. It's quality just won't match mohawk/mumble/etc and it will most likely make the latency/netcode problems worse.

Of course the z8crew have looked at what has worked in other versions of CF as well as other games/genres. Don't be insulting.

Will you quit calling others wrong?
What have I said that made you believe I was against players getting compensated for winning competition?
Why is it important to you that I am wrong and you right, on what? -
WHAT PEOPLE ARE FAILING TO UNDERSTAND IS YOU CANT COMPARE CF TO CS
cs came out in 2000in the demo verisons and instantly became the number 1 game everyone played it besides quake or cs and when 1.6 came out it blew up in the international scene basically world wide, from 2003-2007/8 cs / css flourished amazingly worldwide with lan events/sponsors and backings from thousand of companies/business partners.
CF is a free to play fps that came out well meh a little past its time, its got poor reg, compared to cs1.6 ( not to mention 1.6 is smoother cleaner, all around better running game and came out years before ) but CF again is free, ( didnt start like cs did and become a major game that basically the world did play.
I really hate to hop in and draw from the topic at hand, but CS was originally just a Mod of Half Life. Back in 1999, when ALL of the Mods of Half Life shared one server and you had to filter through HL, CS, TF, etc... CS started in an era where PC games were booming in a competitive form, back with Doom and Quake. CS hit A LOT of hurdles and it didn't become majorly popular until like 2003'ish.
