  • I ****ing love it even tho it's not finished yet. I'll keep an eye on this thread for sure.

    Keep the good work going.
  • nice design, but not download'

Haha, that post motivated me to start the installer. The installer will be a one-time download and will download the mod files from my server and install them. This will allow you to update within the install application using the same installer, in addition it'll prevent people from modifying the graphics files and then leeching it, as it may pose as a security concern. I'll post screenshots tomorrow and probably a download on Wednesday.

Sounds like a pretty smart idea...it'll also stop people who don't know how to properly install it from ruining their game install and having to beg for the files from other people later down the line.

    [EPIC QUESTION]
    To the Z8 Forums MODs...
    WHY IS THERE NO +REP BUTTON! Why I ask, WHY!!!! ;___;
  • omg wt-simple its look awesome keep it up :)
  • Okay, fellas! Like I promised, I have a preview of what the installer is looking like so far. The functionality works, quite crudely, but still does the job. Still looks like I can release this tomorrow morning.

    ii-prev.png

BTW: It's coded in Visual Basic, a very newbie language, but hey, I'm not so bad with it and it gets the job done. xD

    Congratz, you beat Rory :D

He used a basic Windows Installer.
  • Downloaded this and so far it looks absolutely fantastic. Can't wait for the final version(s).

Indeed, VB does get stuff done quickly :). Will you still have a download for a manual installation?

Yes, a manual install will be offered to cater those who don't trust my programming, (can't blame 'em!)
  • That installer is VB?! BEASTY!!!!!!!!! :D

    You rawk!

    [BTW]
Where is the Installer link? It's done, right?

He used a basic Windows Installer.

my uninstaller which should be re-released sunday (school got in the way) is written with a maix of vbs, batch and hta

it started as a test and now is going to be a full version soon

He didn't beat Rory. :l Rory's SmoothUI also comes with his Smooth Bar Kills Marks, available in 4 different colors.. Also his is cleaner looking, already complete, already has a second version out, looks better, and is simply more epic.

    I'm just saying.

    -totally not advertising-

Got another UI in the works. This one based off the style of another game though.

I just meant for the installer, rofl.

Meh I've got a few ideas I've been thinking over today. And changing the images ain't that difficult if people prefer the full background stuff :P.

I'm glad you have a well formed opinion! Good man for advocating your preference. I very much admire Rory for completing it and creating another. I work differently, however, I create a concept design then form the elements around that, Rory sticks to the familiar layout and just changes the images. It just means I have the extra work of re-writing every element placement and layout.

Neither is better than the other.

Now my strategy is proving a mistake when it comes to the clan mark location, which is why it was smart of Rory to stick with what he was sure would prove successful.

    ;)

So my initial post stated that the installer worked- which it somewhat did. At this point, I'm 90% sure that the actual install works correctly. However this is how it will all work:

    - The installer will know when it is your first run or not, if it is, it will show the install screen, where it will download a .ZIP file of the most recent build and proceed to install it. If you have already installed it, it will check the version information on my website and determine if it needs to update itself or not.

    - The installer will serve as the overall control panel, eventually leading to an options panel for toggling disputable features (such as the repair all button) in addition to a feature that allows you to use your own backgrounds to create login screens, all with a simple 800x600 image of your choice.

    - The installer will be able to hide or uninstall the mod. Hiding will back up the mod file so you can easily re-enable it. Uninstalling will remove everything relating to the mod.

So far the installer downloads, extracts and formats the builds, in addition to creating a backup of the original UI folder to provide for easy restoring. The part I'm not sure about is whether or not the installer is written to correctly overwrite the existing files in your UI folder. Going to test it soon.

The installer was written from scratch and doesn't use any windows UX theming besides the window border, everything is all image boxes with coded interaction bits like the event of mouse click and mouse hover. Every date I set seems to be delayed by several days, so I wouldn't count on a fully functioning installer until about Wednesday of next week, the reason being I have a late-start on school that day, plus I wake up at 3:00 AM every weekday because I'm most productive in the morning, so the two make are a good combination.

Lulz, finally someone who doesn't bash me for voicing my opinion! And Rory, I wasn't advertising your SmoothUI, I was simply stating that I liked it better, and the reasons why. Although I still think you should make it like the Smooth Bar Kills Marks and have multiple colors. Annnyyyywwwwaaaaayyyyyssssssss.

I've never really done my own REZ mods. I changed the login screens, lobby screen, and in-room screen. None of the tags or anything though.
  • Love the theme, the only 1 i actually consider using... looking forward to the rest of the files.

  • O frak I did it rong
Seriously, how did I mess up a UI installation?

Btw on the scripts folder you forgot to add the rest of the original files... that's why you get the error ImUndefined has.

and also on the GNB Folder you 4got to add the rest of the original files so In-Game you kinda miss the arrow and the rest of the upper right corner settings... they're still there i mean you just can't see them.

just thought i'd let you know.

Probably my bad, I'm not a brilliant writer when it comes to instructional bits. If you need, I can provide you with the original UI files until I release an installer, since it might get a bit annoying. The part I neglected to clarify is that you don't overwrite the folder, just the contents in each.
  • Just a quick update:

The installer itself now works! Up next is adding update features and options, so we may be looking at a much sooner release date for the installer.

I'm fine don't worry i figured it out so i'm only waiting on the rest of the sweet files...

you are gonna release them via Manual Installation and not just the Installer right?

Yeah, I'll have a manual installation in addition to the installer. Unless you want to change scripts and images, the installer will work just fine.

    awesome!

have you any idea how long will it take you to wrap it up... i know i sound like a desperate 5yr old but i'll b damned if your UI isn't the best 1.
  • And make sure you get your thread sticked by a sheep-MOD so it doesn't get buried.

    Awesomeness need not get buried.

    It's a fact. ;)
