If you have a dual or quad core, make sure to follow my advice, step by step & it should work for you too. Only thing that sucks is its not a permanet fix, you have to do this each time u restart the game, but at least we can play it now. Lets keep those posts coming. If it works, let us know. If not, post exactly what you did & Ill try to help.
I have not read the whole thread.....so apologies if it's already been suggested xD - Prio http://www.prnwatch.com/prio.html (works in win 7)
I have a quad-core and for the first 3 months I struggled with this, changing priority and affinity.....with only slight improvements.
My problem was that i had my wireless mouse connected to a front USB port....through frustration i tried changing to a rear USB port and it solved my problem.....all 4 cores, I aint in winblows atm but i think process priority was left at "above normal" although "normal" would probably work fine too.
Edit: For the people with older systems getting a bit laggy etc, create a new hardware profile....reboot into new profile and disable all the stuff you dont need while playing CF i.e - optical drives, hard drives(not in use) USB ports (not in use) printers scanners etc.
@TimStryker Maybe wanna try and consolidate all the advice into your first post?

Thanks Tim! it works with my CORE 2 QUAD 2.40GHz "Q6600". Now I can play
Youre very welcome, glad this helped you out so you can play. ( :The problems aren't SOLVED.. this is just a workaround and its ### annoying to set the affinity every time we start CF. Also since recently CF makes use of multiple threads and we cannot enjoy from it.
Agreed. But its better then nothing. And untill & if Z8 gets the programmers attention on this to find a permanent fix, its all we got. Literally takes me about 5 seconds now to complete the whole process each time I log on. A little annoying yes, but it could be worse. Also if you want to set it so you dont have to do this each time, just do some google research. Theres ways of doing that. Like I mentioned before, I just dont care enough to do so.GTIDigger50 wrote: »I have not read the whole thread.....so apologies if it's already been suggested xD - Prio http://www.prnwatch.com/prio.html (works in win 7)

GJ on the link there, I took a quick look at it, seems its only for Priority though? Id highly recommend going for the affinity setting first as that seems to work best & if all else fails yeah then go with priority settings. But good info for those that do this via priority. ( : Thanks.
And you know, I also thought this had something to do with a wireless mouse at first. I too had the receiver plugged into the front usb, with my wireless mouse. Unplugged it altogether & switched back to my wired mouse & still had the same probs no matter what. Strange that worked for you, maybe coincidence? But still a good thing either way. ( :
As far as putting everything into the first post, that would take a lot of time to sort through all the bits & pieces that have come up since then, but I might feel up to it in the near future. Plus a Mod would have to be the one to go back and update it for me since its an older post.
Good advice though & thanks again for contributing. ( : -
Ahh, very cool then. Long as its by a reputable company that doesnt spam ya or spyware etc, that would be the perfect program then. And yeah wired mouse via back USB port. Still was doing all the same stuff till I messed with the affinity settings. Intell dual core p4. Nvidia 8800GT. 4 Gigs ram. & Windows XP professional.

Thanks, it would be good if the other users that your solution helped, could post the same information. I'm sure it would help the devs.
I'm gonna test your suggestions on my intel laptop (tried it around xmas- terrible)
Hopefully more people post their system specs while im gone and say if your solution worked or not -
There was a huge monster thread they made, asking people for their specs. Tons and tons of people posted for over 6 months with no progress. They told me directly in fact, that despite all this info they still couldnt find any correlation or similarities between everyone having this issue. Wasnt until I discovered this & posted bout it that anything good came of it. And they locked that thread & let it slip into the back pages. But still a permanent fix would be nice. I forwarded the info to their tech support a while ago, so hopefully thats enough for them to put 2 & 2 together to find a perm fix.

After months of putting up with this waiting for a fix, I came across another site saying something about issues involving dual core proccesors or higher. So I thought to myself, I have a dual core, let me just try this. I was skeptical going into it but it has worked for me 100%. If you have a dual or quadcore proccesor & your mouse & keyboard controlls freeze up on you during gameplay for 1,2,3 seconds or more at a time at seemingly random intervals, give this a try.
Start up your game, log in and go to whatever server & room you want to.
Then, on your keyboard, press Alt+Cntrl+Delete keys, opening up your Windows Task Manager.
Look for Crossfire.exe. It should be towards the top of the list. If you dont see it, just left click the Image Name tab to sort the processes alphabeticaly.
Right click on Crossfire.exe. From the drop box, left click on Set Affinity
This will open up the Processer Afinity box. You should see CPU 0 & CPU 1 with check marks in both boxes. Or more boxes if you have more then a dual core.
You need to have just one of these boxes check marked.
For some reason for me unchecking CPU 0 & leaving CPU 1 checked doesnt fix it.
I find unchecking CPU 1 & leaving only CPU 0 checked works the best.
Id reccomend having only CPU 0 checked, leave every other box unchecked. Bottom line, make sure only 1 box is checked then left click OK.
Close out of Task Manager & you should go automaticaly back to your game. If not just left click the crossfire tab on your task bar. Play game & enjoy.
This fixed it perfectly for me, hopefuly it will for you too. You might also try to do the same but instead click Set Priority & set it to Low. That has worked for me too.
Hope this helps, if so drop a note here to let others know.
Thank you , thank you , thank you , this has changed my cf life lol , i also uncheck cpu 1 an works perfectly now , no more freezing at all , just hope they find a permant fix as i am sick of having to do it everytime i sign in... -

My Processor is the AMD Phenom II 1090T with Six Cores.
I cant set the affinity , i dont know why.
But i can set this before i logged in my Account (it names G4-box.exe)
But its not stable at core 0+1+2 , 5+4+3... im so desperade about Cross Fire
Now ,im testing it @ "Singlecore-Mod " with CPU 0-5, i hope its stable
PS: I´m German. The grammar is not perfect -

Youre very welcome, glad this helped you enjoy CF again. -
Also, someone wanna explain why this thread was unstickied? Last I knew this problem hasnt been permanently fixed yet & this is still the best & only solution to helping most people who have this problem. From the posts, yes its clear, this isnt working for everyone, but the majority it does appear to be. And for a few people out of the minority that said it wasnt, I suspect they didnt do it right to begin with.
