for sure. Not many great keepers still playing consistently. Shay Given,Buffon,Julio Cesar,Van Der Sar and Casillas would fill my top 5(not in order). Casillas has been horrible this season for real madrid though. Bad judgement mainly, but still the best keeper for reaction saves. -
Argentinia
Like brazil,Argentinia is famous for its sexy football, and boasts some amazing players-most commonly known is Maradona who is now there manager. Although they probably have the greatest list of strikers ever to be brought to a world cup finals I still believe they will do badly. Now i'll tell you why starting from the back.
-Argentinia are lacking the experience and ability of their rivals in goal. They're going to be starting with Romero who has put in some exceptional performances in matches i've match for club and country. However,he has never in his career been put in a big-match situation and hasnt got a consistent place registered in the Argentinian side with only 6 caps to his name. The other 2 options in goal look dodgy aswell, all with low caps and low experience.
-Maradona has called on some experienced names for his back line. Samuel is the key man,has a huge reputation especially after an amazing season at Inter alongside Lucio. Knicknamed ''The Wall''-its a perfect knickname. His partner in centre-back is Demichelis who reached the champions league final with Bayern this year. Despite their success, after watching many BundesLiga and Champions League matches i've gathered a profile of him. Frequently is out of position, makes silly errors regularly and a pretty poor reader of the game. His attributes though is he makes good covering tackles, and is strong in the air but his lack of brains definetly will be accessed by Rooney,Torres etc. Heinze will most likely be the left-wing back. Very experienced, but very slow. Has been on a downfall ever since his horrible injury struck carreer at Man Utd,eventually been replaced by Evra. Good reader of the game,110% commited and experienced-he will be important but will be easily beaten by fast ,younger wingers like Robinho,Lennon etc.
-The Argentinian midfield has only 1 word to describe it: Pathetic. Veron is 35,well past his sell-by date. Very slow now and doesnt have the burst of pace he once had. Still has the passing ability and can shoot long range but will struggle playing possibly 7 matches in 4 weeks. Other midfielders include Gutierrez, who last year played with Championship side Newcastle. Strong physical player, with good pace and power but not technically gifted like Spains,Brazils or Englands wingers. The liverpool duo Mascherano & Maxi will have a lot on their plates. Maxi is a huge goal threat, with good feet, great runs with accurate crosses with clinical finishing. Mascherano will be captaining the side, and will be the holding midfield player. He has a good reputation, but has shown to play stupidly and rash in big games. Di Maria is a not as well known player, but with great control, feet, speed and can take people off. Definetly one of the stars of the future.
-Now,on to what Argentinia are famous for! Boasting several of the worlds best strikers with Messi,Tevez,Milito,Higuain,Aguero and Palermo being called up. Messi, the twinkle-toes magician, known to be the ''new Maradona''. Tevez is a terrier, with great work rate and fantastic team player. Milito has had a wonderful season with Inter, and is a very clinical striker. Higuain was one of Real Madrids best players last season, getting over 20 goals and being a huge threat making his movement and slyness really important to his club. Ageuro is also dubbed as one of the ''future Maradona's''. Has great control, awareness and great skills especially close control. However,Maradona has failed to make this amazing team gell. They don't have a leader to encourage them and they have a bad team spirit, and only struggled to reach the finals on the last qualifying day by a single point. Maradona is a mad-man,hence the reason his knickname Maradona Heroina linking his use of drugs and general craziness. He has no experience as a manager, and has made some crazy decisions like leaving out Inter starlets Cambiasso & Zanetti who are commonly known as two of the best midfielders and defenders all rounders boasting great experience and skills. Maradona also called up his personal friend,Garce in defense when he hadnt even been thought of joining the squad, after turning 30 and having no caps. Garce had actually already bought tickets to South Africa with his friends before he'd got the call and didnt even think he'd be anywhere consideration.
I think that Argentia certainly have the ability to win the world cup,but with Maradona in charge with no leadership i don't see them any chance. -

That's pretty much my top 5 too, cept Buffon hasn't impressed me the past couple of years, not like he used to at least. But then, he does have a huge rep to live up to.
Schwarzer of Fulham's been pretty good these last 2 years, and Jaaskalienen (spellcheck) is always amazing. -

yeah, seriously under-rated keepers. Akinfeev for CSKA Moscow is a lad to watch out for aswell. I've watched some russian/moscow matches and he's all round brilliant keeper. Good kicking, good reactions, good at taking crosses etc.
EDIT: Joe Hart and Craig Gordon look like 2 british future keepers and De Gua for Atletico Madrid/Spain has been amazing. -

Akinfeez has excellent reactions. I watched a couple of CSKA matches on the net too
I rate Hart very highly. Especially since he came from Shrewsbury (close to where I live) before transferring to Manchester City. But also, he never seems fazed by playing against big teams. He's also well ahead of his years, in terms of reading the game and his diving saves. Spot on.
Gordon on the other hand, can be pretty inconsistent. Played dreadful in his second season at Sunderland, but did decent this season, when he played. He kinda got hyped up too much though before his transfer. -
how bout cech, u cant just leave out the best keeperfor sure. Not many great keepers still playing consistently. Yeah he's good. Neuer is too. Not sure what country he plays for though. -
neuer is the german #1. I watched him many times for Schalke but he's never really got his 'lucky break'. Maybe if he gets a move to Bayern when Butt retires he might get a chance to show he can do at the top level. Good keeper though.
Cech was better before his huge injury when Stevie Hunt fractured his skull. He just doesnt seem the man. Still, brilliant keeper.
Another lad for the future is Westwood. He's Irish but is the next Shay Given but he played a load of Gaelic Football back here in the Republic so his kicking is amazing. He can kick it pinpoint accurate and with huge distances. Last year he got more assists for Coventry than anyone else. There's been a lot of talk of many Premiership teams making a move for him but he's young, and not as experienced as others. Great all round keeper aswell. -

if a player falls he actually is injured. of course there are some french or italian players in that league who dive alot but most of the time its good game. -

You do that in Gaelic Football and you better be injured for real or you'll have 29 players beating the p*ss out of you after the game. And this includes your own team mates.

i like the idea of this
ima research this -
I apprecciate your reviews Ru5T,they are very nice and detailed.Could you make one about South Africa? I don't know much about them and they will be hosting the cup.:)
sure.
Hurling >>> Gaelic
I've broken 3 fingers from playing hurling but i learned my lesson to cover my knuckles when catching the ball. Hurling is much better craic and more painful :P Cork are the best all round tho, been fighting it out with Kerry in the football and Kilkenny in hurling but we've gone back a bit since the players strike
Still have the best player of all time. CHRISTY RING!!!! -
South Africa
-South Africa have qualified for the first time to the World Cup finals for the first time, but only automatically since they're the hosts. To be honest, the only players i know well are Mokoena,Piennar and McCarthy who've all played in the Premiership. I'll still try to do my best.
-Khune will be starting in goal. From what i've seen of him he's made loads and loads of bloopers but his last couple of matches ,especially in the confedarations cup, were very good which has cemented his place and pushed competition from Josephs. He's also young at 22 now and has shown flashes of class. If he plays his best consistentnly he will be a test for strikers around the globe.
-Their main defender is Mokoena who is currently playing at Porsmouth. He's vastly experienced with over 100 caps for his country. He's reliable but slow, and not talented with his feet but the best South Africa have to offer. His partner in defence will probably be Booth who is also tall, lanky and experienced. He has the same weaknesses as Mokoena though and they will not keep out the top strikers. The left wing back Masilela is actually pretty talented, and has good pace. His opposite Gaxa is also very agile and has good pace and good height. Overall, their back 4 are tall and experienced rather than natural talent.
-The best midfielder South Africa is definetly Pienaar. Great stamina and work rate, with good energy and passing he is the main man. Great player to lead the team and drive them on. Has enjoyed a brilliant season with Everton where he has impressed numerous times. The other starlet in their team is probably Modise. He has flare, and can create and score goals and the hopes of the nation rest on his shoulders. The rest of the midfield is pretty average, and looks like there may be a goal drought from the midfield.
-The most famous South African player of all time,Benni McCarthy hasnt even made the squad! The coach stated that he was too fat. McCarthy is probably most famous for leading Porto to becoming champions league winners when Jose Mourinho was a newbie manager. He scored many important goals (including knocking out Man Utd) and got a big reputation and attracted much attention from big clubs. However,South Africa will be looking for others to make goals in the final 3rd. Mphela will have to lead the attack with the best record, but is a very inconsistent player with big mood swings. The other 2 strikers that were brought look extremely poor aswell.
I think that their biggest problem is definetly going to be goals. The front line looks very ordinary. However, never ever write of the hosts! Some amazing things are known to happen especially when a whole country is supporting you!! Remember Korea's amazing run to the semi-finals in Korea 02. Anything is possible! I doubt anything amazing will happen though

Oh, you mean the sport where they pick up the ball, and run with it instead
lack of skills, they have.
I played Gaelic football when I visit Ireland, every now and then. Kinda boring, in my opinion.Yeah he's good. Neuer is too. Not sure what country he plays for though.
Neuer plays for Shalke and Germany, and yeah, proper good, young, keeper. -
Uruguay didnt keep the ball well. However, they are a team to watch out for. Suarez and Forlan are two of the best strikers in the world.
France are just cr,ap and sh1t. Domenach's an idiot. Doesnt start his best players-Malouda and Lass Diara -.- Toulalann,Gourcuff and Govou are all useless. -

please dont talk about Irish sports if you havent played them properly or watched a good match. You don't run with the ball -.- I don't actually like the sport and i think it's sh1t but you don't know the rules of the game obviously. Its like me talking about curling,i don't know a thing about it so i don't say anything about it.
