2 computer problems that need solving!

1.Programs to download music like Limewire and Ares won't work.Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, nothing.I have tried updating and degrading java, nothing.

2.I recently moved and my internet speed is slow and keeps DCing.We moved like a block or less O_O
The problem is probably the wall jack.I use a wall jack with 2 sockets in one, one for the telephone and one for the internet(This .I also haven't put the filter we used to have between the wall jack and the modem.Might that be the problem?

It also keeps DCing the internet and CF allot.I can't play one game without this happening, and sometimes the game says it was delayed.

First question, are u using a ADSL filter on ur phone line?(if yes, it should be placed first... then the spliter should be linked to the filter.. so wallplug>filter>splitter)

Second of all... are your programs even opening, or you just cant use the search fonction?

Limewire doesn't open.
Ares does, but doesn't find any results.

Umm, If you have verizon. You should have a router that is connected to a modem. And have a guy come out and set up the wire for your phone and stuff to set up the router...

First go to your control panel...click on Security and open your firewall program....click on the exceptions tab and see if ares is on the list...if not add it.

If that doesn't solve the problem then chances are ares is already in use by one of the user accounts on the computer.

That. ask ur phone company about your internet/phone... ur not supposed to set it up all on your own (even if you know how its done)... make yourself a lazy lazy snorlax and call the tech.

Isn't a modem a router O_O

All I have is the modem.Never had anything else besides modem and filter.

There are some modems that can do both. (Mine does and I got it for free from my phone company.. i can have internet on 4 computers wired to the modem, and it can be wireless too, lets say I could host a nice little lan party with that baby.)

Hope that's the problem.
They just told us that we had internet already.Nothing else.

Just checked and Ares is allowed.I want to do a computer reformat, but I have vista and I need to make the back up on some disks,which I lack.

Also, does the filter do anything besides filter?Because now the internet gets cut when using the phone.
