Image signatures

  • To add one thing about "near future".

We were at the time playing with some ideas and fixes to the boards. Based on the database merging from the original discuz! boards and dealing with the large size of our user base. We managed to fix a few functionality problems with the boards.

At that time it was looking like we could spend some of the extra time required to have the feature enabled. But after running into other problems, and higher priorities and realizing that there still isn't a general positive level on the forums the "near future" has now been changed to the statements found in the post above.

We have a couple of ideas for bringing back signature images. But beyond mentioning that, we have no time frame for it.
  • Moderators don't care, they already have there image sigs. So we will just have to wait another 5 years before they give us the right to use images in our sigs also.

lol, it's funny but probably true LoL
Also i agree with what Mr. Saidin is speaking of...if the posibility of a signature ever is irrelevant, a lot of "noobs" will take advantage of putting 1 line of text and half a page of stupid pictures, Saidin's on a roll! i saw it before on forums and boy is it annoying all that picture!

No sir, there is no "reset to default" button.

He meant if you installed the forums, without doing any settings, the reputation and img-sig are ON/available by default.

Turning them on and off is just two clicks thing.

You just said What I said, I said there is a DEFAULT< Not a back to DEFAULT. Everything is as Saidin put his time into posting that though.
  • Counting seperate pageloads for logging into the Z8 Forums:

    1) load forum, not logged in, which in turn:
    2) load top iframe, not logged in, now we: login to top iframe, which goes to
    3) posted iframe page, cheesy "loading" gif, redirects to..
    4) resulting blank "login successful" iframe, redirects the parent forum page to..
    5) the forum announcements, which in turn loads:
    6) a new, "Welcome: "name"" logged in top iframe

Counting seperate pageloads for an even half-decent integrated login system:

    1) Load forum -> enter login info
    2) Logged in page if successful, logged out page if unsuccessful

Adding to this, users wouldn't have to repeatedly login each and every time they return to the forum with a new browser session, which could be multiple times a day (even multiple times an hour sometimes).

I don't respect your claimed issues with pageloads or gripes with your login system, as these are entirely your own fault as a result of poor, shameful development. Your pathetic (sorry, it just is) iframe based login/portal system would be considered poor even in the 1990s. You take the user's submitted info and then check it server side. You don't needlessly pass it back and forth using the client as some kind of loopback, much less through iframes. It makes me think that your web developer(s) learned their trade long ago and haven't put much effort into keeping up with the times.

I also have trouble respecting your claimed database issues excuse. As I type this, my own servers are serving hundreds of unique visitors, and some of my own databases are nearing the 1GB milestone and receive up to a hundred queries a second. My point is that I can understand your possible pains, but also can understand how you can deal with them, again leading me to think that you have inexperienced staff.

Ironically, replacing your awful system (that should never have seen the light of day in the first place) would solve many of these issues.

The point still stands that account stealing scams targeted at Z8Games users are more successful because Z8Games users associate using the Z8 site with having to constantly login over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. If they come to a "fake" Z8 site and see that they aren't logged in, that's just the norm. They're more likely to hand over their info without second thought. Some other sites I use, that use the mystical technique of placing cookies, have kept me logged in for over one year.

I'm not "all knowledgeable". But what you're talking about is what I do pretty much for a living :). Sorry for getting long winded; ask Frank how much I go on about this stuff

    I don't respect...

Your lack of respect is well known. What we have here is what we have to deal with. Your overhaul of the system to enable signature images is not going to happen. For that you'll have to come to grips with. And your assumptions of your own servers are no where near a proper comparison to ours.

As for account issues. Why do you think that in almost every online "thing" in this world the number one automated message is "never give out your password". MSN, Steam, Banks etc etc. Account issues are the #1 issue online companies around the world deal with. Regardless of our apparent flaws to log in on a website.
  • It all makes sense now. Thanks for clearing that up saidin. I love you. Have my babies?
  • well saidin said it. u gus should do that with the clan pages if it would help much like deleting a clan/members when they arent on for a particular amount of time ex. a month
nd getting rid of the pointless cf picture next to every1s name where the clan mark is supposed to be

u know if that would help at all...

Jesus Christ, from admin control panel you can set the maximum resolution and size of signature. Same as they limited signatures to 3 lines for regular forumers.
Please don't ever come up with dumb statements like that, you know nothing.
