Image signatures

Didn't think "near future" could mean a year.
afaik, the quickest solutions are:
1-Enable IMG signature by count post.
2-Make a custom group and move some users to it.
3-Enable it for all users.
And making a vb hack/mod for enabling IMG signatures by Rep count won't take much.
Dunno why it's taking so much....
I know Z8 is/was working on it, and this might not have the periority [for the company] but it can be solved easily.

edit: Karma (rep) will also be making a return. But again, we wanted to give you guys a chance to start posting again. The boards were down for too long and they were available to come back up in a much better capacity than when they first went live accidentally last week.

I believe i know more about forums/databases/servers more than you.
And i say it's not that big of a deal.
lol ive ran a forum before and im running one now.
with Z8Games, the problem is a little different after the transfer from Subagames. Im not sure im allowed to discuss it, so i wont -

I coded ghostforum1.0, ghostblog1.0, ghostcms1.0 years ago.
And trust me on it ;o -
The fact that moderators can use images demonstrates that it is indeed possible.
The only real explanation I can come up with is this one:
Back in Suba the admin (dont remember the name) was the only one able to create new user groups and set the permissions and control MySQL.
When they transferred all the users to this new forum, they somehow lost the admin account. So to retrieve it they would need to empty the entire database. And that would mean a lot of work and a long outage.
Just trying to explain it to myself. -

not really.
When they transfered it here they have the new admin passes, or they wouldn't be able to put it back on
And btw if they have the admin/root pass (which they do) they can change the mysql root pass
So no it's not the password. -
There's far more priorities than those. Just wait. All you need to know is it is being worked on, and trying to be made right this time. Patience is a virtue, and it's not something needed, it can wait a little bit longer.

Hmm. maybe the dog has eaten the sheet with the password on it? lol -

I waited for the UK server(s) for months of delays, i didn't QQ about it (not alot ,only once in a while ;P) But that was serious, but this one is not a serious issue yes but also wont take a year to be done.
I can wait for years for CF to fix the Bad damage reg/Lame gfx/Bad 3d sound/Spikes/Disconnections/Glitchy sticky maps and hundreds of immature kids breaking every single rule.
But little things like this, if its still on the waiting list for a year, that's just......
Not cool. -

It takes just ONE person with maybe ONE hour to do just ONE little thing like this that will make oh I don't know, a couple hundred people in the CF community happy.
Oh and I doubt "it is being worked on". Because it seriously, without a doubt, takes one hour, three for beginners to install just one mod on messaging boards like vBulletin. Something like that cannot be "worked on" for over a year. -
I would quote everything for truth but I think it would be considered spamming. So I am just gonna agree that it wouldn't take much time. I have had a little web experience in html classes but I don't think that is relevant to this. I still don't think it would take much time for this to be done. I would like to know the "real" reasons on why this is not being done. You are saying it is in progress... Ask saidin if you are allowed to discuss this publicly I would ask saidin myself but saidin never responds to any of my PM's.

Yes, Within an hour it IS possible to put the DEFAULT In, but that is not what these boards want. -

No sir, there is no "reset to default" button.
He meant if you installed the forums, without doing any settings, the reputation and img-sig are ON/available by default.
Turning them on and off is just two clicks thing. -

And it's not like it would matter for your case. You wouldn't get an image sig even if they implied it. -
There is no such thing required as "working on" it. It's a standard feature built into vBulletin and pretty much every other forum script out there. It's completely normal. The team will lie to you about images in signatures or polls being "broken", and they are wrong.

I dont know coding, scripting, or alot of technical things about the internet for starters. However- I have participated in a play by post on and off for 10 years. This play by post has been on multiple forum formats, starting with v-bulletin. From there it went to 3 others before returning to v bulletin. Image Signatures were a part of all of those formats from the beginning, every move, every time. I dont understand how hard it can be however, they arent releasing it for a reason.
They were (and are) an extra, however if you are writing as a fantastical creature it helps to have one so people can look at your signature and figure out your race. I veered off topic there but the point is that, while I have no interest in an image signature for this forum, based off 10 years of forum participation, its worth waiting for, whenever they get to it. -
I hosted couple of hundreds for friends/customers :]

Give us SIGs .
SIG Req:1000 posts.

Love you too. -
There are plenty of boards in the world that function perfectly fine without signature images.
In Fact, A LOT of those boards are gaming related boards.
Look at;
Blizzard
Riot Games
Valve
Almost all Guild Wars elite fansites
And almost every other game company with an official set of forums.
Now look at our boards. We allowed signature images because it was a way to reward the elite members of the community who made proper posts and didn't spam our boards. But we never had to do that. And it certainly is not industry standard.
We don't need every thread where people say 1 line of text followed by half a screen full of images. This is also one of the reasons why we closely monitor our mods signature images. Because that is something we don't want to encourage.
And we allow text signatures, which is even more than some of the sites mentioned above.
Until we can find the time and manpower and then set the proper settings in vbulletin to make sure people can't abuse these rules and make it such that the focus of these forums is about the game and not about 4chan and who has the best signature image. Then we will keep that function closed.
Frankly we're tired of people here who think they know everything that goes on with the decisions of the company with regards to this particular subject. We have no reason to initiate signature images right now. This community has not proved itself capable of policing itself.
The technical limitations with our board system come from the portal login, which changes the structure of some of the settings within vbulletin. And also because our database is very large. In the area of some of the maximum amount that vbulletin can handle. So despite the all knowledgeable Rophe, players don't have any indication of the technical limitations of what we're dealing with.
There is no karma system in the way the old boards were for these ones. The reputation levels don't have the same options. Sure we can use reputation to control whether you get access to a signature image. But there are no built in functions for reputation that stops you from making 50 alternate accounts and upping your rep whenever you see fit. Again, an indication this community can't police itself.
The next point comes from server load and uploading of images directly to the server as opposed to using the tags. We all know the site can get slow during peak times. The last thing we need is to make it even slower by having millions of animated gifs of motivationals and various lolcat references all over our boards. But we can't always control the size and content of images uploaded to imageshack or photobucket. Again, an indication that this community is not ready to police itself on these aspects. We're constantly working to improve the web service. But improving the website/web server to handle signature images is not a priority.
Until we can get the time and a system in place that can open up functions of the boards to encourage proper intelligent posting, which will likely never occur anyways. Adding signature images is not a priority. It is a privilege we give our moderators as a show of appreciation for the help they do for keeping these forums integrity based on a set of morals we as a company lay out.
We apologize that signature images are desired and currently not enabled. But please, put this subject to rest. For now it remains the decision of the company combined with technical limitations that we are not prepared to designate the time to work on at the moment. And while this may be a very similar answer to what we gave a year ago when we moved to Vbulletin it remains true. Improving the site, service and supporting the games we publish will always remain a higher priority than making sure signature images are enabled.
End of story, you can consider this the final word from us on the subject.
