oh u dont know how to do it in xp? u can its just as easy u just cant see your desktop so u have to do it from your control panel
control panel>display>setting>screen resolution
it stays the resolution you put it until u change it back instead of changing it every game so i guess thats better

That's not really windowed mode, though, because the game is already technically in "windowed" mode.
Crossfire doesn't use a normal directX fullscreen mode to begin with. This is why, at least in windows XP, the desktop becomes the same resolution as the game, when you alt tab out, and vsync doesn't work correctly (without a special program to force it, which may cause crashes with x-trap, and erratic smoothness even if it works).
Basically, Crossfire is playing in "windowed" mode to begin with, except that the window is stretched to fullscreen. I don't know the technical name for this mode, however. Sudden Attack and Silkroad Online use the exact same mode. Operation 7 and Combat Arms both use proper fullscreen modes, so alt tabbing causes the desktop to reset to the proper pre-game resolution, and v-sync (in windows XP) works properly.
