A New League - CAGL

A donation link is sufficient enough. And you DO NOT want to pay licensing fees to Xfire! It's such a pain in the neck, and they've probably got 5-6 corporate lawyers. You'd end up getting bullied.
Ugh. So basically I can have a donations link and if people donate it's fine. BUT, I can not mention anywhere on the site that say to donate or that we accept donations. Did I get that right? Haha. What about verbal mentioning? As in, a private vent, I say donations are helpful for upkeep of the website, prizes, etc. Or does that also fall under "advertising and mentioning that we take donations?" -

Verbal is fine, as long as it's not in what's called; 'advertised print'. It's a tangled web of pain in the a**....but that's the world of licensing and copyrights. -

I apologize for all the questions :-D You are being extremely helpful. I think it's better to find out what's wrong/right now, better than later. I appreciate all the help.
Awesome. So now in terms of accepting donations for tournaments, what are the legal/illegal parameters for use of that money? As being "donations", will all of that money be required to go back into the league, as for web page expenses, tournament prizes, etc.? Will CAGL have to be registered as an online business or as a non-profit business? Do I have to get permission from Z8Games to take donations on behalf of Crossfire? Since it is copyrighted by them. Basically, is it legal to take donations, non-advertised print, using Crossfire the game without permission from Z8?
Any suggestions for broadcasting video? Since you say XFire is a pain. I was looking at a place called UStream, which you can also embed into a website. Will that also fall under the same broadcasting laws as you have mentioned? -

Anything that is a licensed product, has licensing agreements. HOW you spend that money is entirely up to you...legally your supposed to tax that, but if you earn less than $2500 USD (in MOST states) you don't have to tax it. You CAN get away without filing that info...but you didn't hear that from me.
Everything else....comes through trial and error. I'm 100% certain your going to catch ALOT of heat, so take it with a grain of salt, and do the best YOU can. -

Thanks a lot. I appreciate the help. Most likely I would file the info for taxes anyway, just to avoid any legal consequences. I'd like to defer as much of that "heat" as possible . Thanks for the support. Wish us luck. -
ewww the rules are not exactly the best. If it's a semi pro league than you should atleast let a 8-10 player limit (7 seems small). The weapon choices are to limited. Such as the m4-c isn't really that much of a boost compared to the regular m4. Also, if you get in a close battle with a m4 vs a m4-c without any headshots and all the shots to the body the m4 will win since the damage is the same but it shoots faster. So yeah I would use the weapon requirements the guy posted on like page 2 or 3

We are currently working on the rules for the league. Yes, they will be a little more open than some of the more competitive leagues. We are also working to put the forums up, probably sometime next week. Our only coder who works with the script on the website is out of town and will not be back until beginning of next week.
***LOOKING FOR: Experienced coders/scripters who can work with the script on the site. We are using kmleague script (PHP and MySQL). It would be good to have more than one person who can upload content onto the site that requires going through script. I am not one of those people so I'm at the mercy of my coder )
