Feedback Plz :D
I've lost these events a lot now, so I gotta ask the community what advice I can use for next time.
This was my submission for the Team Work Category. I was pretty surprised I didn't win since I thought I showed an extremely large amount of coordination between us players.

We were on opposite sides of the teams, and we tried to assassinate each others side without them finding out as much as possible.
However the winner just shot mutants in hero mode in groups, (pretty much a typical hero mode game).
Can I get some advice from y'all?

I think you can make better video than this
Thanks for the feedback, what don't you like about it? Next time how do I surpass the mutation winner?
I'd like a detailed response for my own learning experience. -
After watching the other video and this one. I think the only reason the other one won is because he edited the video in a better way. I don't see anything special in 50 people killing mutants that are AFK or not trying to do a thing at all. Yours was "team"work. Maybe if you edited more the video you would win, use the replay system to record some parts. For example, the part where you killed someone behind the box, you could use the replay system to show the whole path and the target too while you're in the back shooting the box. Stuff like that, you know.
-
Oh i see, i think this didn't count cuz u were both on opposite teams.
Maybe the GMs thought it would be unfair if they chose this, cuz it's kinda like cheating xD
I don't know why they chose the mutation mode one, cuz it seemed rather simple, but it does however highlight the "teamwork" part in mutation mode. -

Hmmm, so you're saying I was disqualified for being on opposite sides, I believe I read the rules thoroughly. TeamWork is what they want, I feel like I delivered.
In other words I got disqualified for unwritten rules? -
Hmmm, so you think I should have edited better, that's logical, although that wasn't the editing category. #GotItTho

Well, yeah. But putting some written stuff and putting some other point of views would be better. -
[GM]Kanadian wrote: »Just so that you don't feel bad about it, you did nothing wrong and you were completely within rules. You were not disqualified at all. No worries on that end
That's great! Btw I also welcome your advice Kanadian, you are my favorite GM (You even post on your days off) on here after all, I'd really appreciate it especially from you. -
I am not really clear on how the Teamwork Section works but if I was to make a video for it ill try to increase some team boosts you know like someone crouchs and you jump on them to get a peak advantage or go higher now that's some true teamwork or maybe doing bait movements when you attract people to come towards you and someone else comes unexpected and clears them all out, now that to me is teamwork.
What I see in your video is me playing with any random person it's just doesn't seem too teamworky but more like this is what you should be doing in S&D so just think about the extra mile from what you would do in a normal game and that could help you.
If you want me to show you some great teamwork tactics ill be happy for you to hit me up and ill try to teach you some in a private match cause ive been doing many in my years in CW's -

I see, did you notice that we were on opposite sides, telling each other where the enemy was the whole time? And the other player was actually the opponent and not some random? -
Honestly, its kinda boring to watch full matches or lets say rounds , you can still stay on the same idea (TeamWork) , but you could've recorded more clips on different maps which mainly deals on the kills or at the teamwork moments, try also to edit the kill parts like moving the camera and bla bla.. it will make it more professional, at all its not that bad!
almost forgot , may I ask whats the song name? Seems familiar to me .. -
Here are my view or opinion on "Team Work" or what you lacked or could of improved.
-
Team Both should be on the same side
- Use Third person mode View in some Scenarios
- Set the Enemy Up Scenario, Gang "Third Person view"
- Surpise attack from other member (Secret location)
- Switch from First person and Third Person
- Some effects would be cool, Slow motion assault
Why you didn't win, well that's down to taste of the judging panel.
About HMX winner, I won't say anything bad as the GM found it good and they have the power to decide based on their taste. However I will say it did have the Aspect of team work., all soldiers attacked at the same time or working together and is seen. It doesn't mean I found it entertaining or anything as it has some aspect of A.F.K. That could of been done for the video or old replay "events". Any way Congrats to them, it didn't break the rules or anything.
For the record your Halloween Costume was a Win in my book but if the above things was implemented in this video I personally would of found it more entertaining than A.F.K mutants.
****This idea of team work on the other team would work for Spy Mode and would go perfect as team work, working as secret agent for your team.**** -

Wow, that was a really detailed view of it all. Thanks a bunch man. ^.^
I'm wondering of making my own poll for funzies, think it's a good idea? -
I think Camel pretty much hit the nail on the head. Also, it seems like it's not obvious to everyone what your teamwork is. That's probably what was most important.
I will say the Mutant video triggers me. As someone who plays HMX, it's annoying when everyone's teaming or if Xeno is afk and you're left to get farmed on and bullied.
I personally thought Pyrex was going to win, so I was surprised... -
I see, did you notice that we were on opposite sides, telling each other where the enemy was the whole time? And the other player was actually the opponent and not some random?
Isn't that like.. .playing unfair lol you can't teamwork with someone that aint on your team that doesn't make sense looool but I guess it's good commuication but it just doesn't really add up if you get my tokyo drift. Just be on the same team time and do some cool teamwork stuff don't work against your ACTUAL team to make this it's just isn't really teamwork in my eyes ( NO HATE THO ) -

The mutants we're not afk lol as you can cleary see how they're moving and crouching^^ also i can't see any teamwork init (alright the first 20seconds are pretty nice) BUT this guys are just farming and isnt farming actually against the rules? -

If we're looking at teamwork only, I'd say I had that as well, we communicated through voice-chat, and had to meet up without letting our teams know, and sneak up on them. Quite difficult if you ask me. -
Sure, technically its cheating, but it's still utilizing the skill called "teamwork". And as Kanadian said, I was not disqualified for that.
It's not about you being disqualified but it's just not really great teamwork. How can it be teamwork if set person is not on your team to work with? I think you are just overthinking it abit but not realising that it's a bit weird that your teamwork video was you working with someone on the other team that you should be against like if I was in that match with you I would of hit that kick button so quickly just because you are doing the complete opposite of teamwork by not working with your team.
At least in the HMX video they were all together beating up an AFK person but thats teamwork at least, if the video someone telling the mutant where the last person was or something along those lines than it aint teamwork that's just being a terrible team player.
Honestly I have nothing against what youve created but you need to think to yourself is it really teamwork if that person isn't on my team but rather is it me being an bad team player by exposing the team I should be winning with. -

I see what you think, the GMs probably saw it that way too. Besides a winning video of people doing that would just not promote what the game should be about. But nevertheless, the category said, teamwork with you and your friends. And trust me, there was definitely teamwork utilized here, we had to coordinate pretty darn well.
It's just that it doesn't follow the rules of the game. Which is why I most likely lost. But if that's the case, that'd be extremely unfair, since there was no written rule that we had to be on the same team to have teamwork happening. -

You need to think to yourself like anyone would.
" Teamwork? hmmm maybe that would mean I need to be in a TEAM with my friends. " in no way would I of thought telling a friend on the other team where the people on my team are would be teamwork. In my eyes they mean they want to see you pull nice strats with your team like maybe a full rotation clearing site all together without losing anyone from maybe a 2v6 just nice planing but what's so teamworky about telling your friend where your team is? I honestly don't get it and I wouldn't be so annoyed but the fact you are calling the other person a " farmer " is just disrespectful again group of friends attacking someone is teamwork someone leaking out information to someone else on the other team is called fixing an match and in pro matches they don't call that teamwork they call that life ban you aint ever gonna play comp ever again lol. -

Hold on a second, since when was the word "farmer" used as an insult, it's just a fact, he got that title when he started killing a mutant with his "buddies" while the mutant stood still without fighting back.(Meanwhile crouching, meaning he's in fact not AFK). So don't go ahead calling me disrespectful, I just look at evidence.
BTW, this is the definition of teamwork.
The only reason you don't like my idea is because of your pride, you prefer the players being physically in the same team, although this is not required.
I'd prefer to end this here, because I made this thread for feedback, and I believe it's just an argument now over what teamwork really is. Thanks. -
Imma have to go with a lot of what others have already stated...
1-While this isn't the 'best editing' category....had you done more editing to better highlight the effects of the team work scenarios it would have been better and smoother and thus just a more appealing video to watch.
2-Ultimately...while you are clearly using teamwork...it is a bit odd to see it as a GR and a BL helping each other when they are suppose to be fighting each other :P as was...discussed....that's just semantics but I can see it attributing to the GMs discussion when deciding the winner too.
3-I think it would had been better under a few circumstances
A) All 'teamwork' players were on the same side.
B] More than just one other helping out even if in just different parts of the video.
C) more examples of defined teamwork, especially for that mode. Like setting up ambushes together or group rush tactics. one player baiting for the other. etc etc.
I will agree that I myself, don't particularly like the winner of that category because it's rather bland especially with the mutants just sitting there in 90+ % of the video instead of actively trying to mutate the soldiers. It'd really help further prove the 'Success can be achieved with Teamwork' factor if the mutants were actually trying and failing and not just sitting there after all... but ultimately I think it won because the video is otherwise quite well put together (don't like the page flip transitions though...). But it sets up the scenario as why team work is needed and shows the team work happening. ...just woulda been mucho better if mutants were attacking and not just sitting...
oh and another possibility is....
you're on the grump/no win list for making fun of Grumpy's list fails before :P -

I ain't trying to attack you but it's calm. I see what you've done and I can see that yes you were working with a friend and if we were to strip it away from " oh you were on different teams " it would be perfect team talking with actual infomation. Just idk what to say im not a true fan of the HMX murdering but yeah if I were to be asked whats got the most teamwork in it then it's your video.
just next time maybe edit it up a bit ( no full match best parts only ) and maybe round up like 4 or 5 friends to do it with so it's like a even even better team effort, the more the better in my opionion anyway good luck in the future tho if you keep this mindset you'll probably win next year. -

After reading your conversation I can tell your use to the traditional way of team work but isn't this contest about creativity and showing the ART in the FILMFESTIVAL, bringing new experience to the table ONLY FOR the purpose of the video? And lets face it every HM game you see random people ganging on mutants, so if I were to make a video off of a random game anf add some tiny bit of fancy editting I would win? -

its the number game. if it was like 2 people ganging up on a mutant that wouldn't be cool but seeing more and more people would make it more of an team effort if you get my drift. I know it ain't great tbh its big weapon shoot little people and they no move and die. The editng wasnt that good it more of it being transitions nothing serious. If we were to talk about in the creative stand point then yeah the whole spy intel thing would be more creative than the gang attack on poor weak green mutants but hey I dont make the rules I am just trying to say what's I feel like was the reason why that video won and that's probably on how many people were invovled on the team not really the edit. -

Yup all I can say is take this as a learning experience. -
Your video is poorly produced and tires quickly
To everyone saying "must be same team" they seriously lack creativity and imagination
The video concept was very creative and could have easily won if it were not poorly produced
Better production means quality and visual retention:
- High quality clips and moments
- Good selection of camera movement and placement
- Good accompaniment of music, sfx, and transitions with videos
- A well depicted narrative (shouldn't have to explain what's happening)
This includes segmenting and understanding the importance of segmenting your video (esp intro and ending)
And additionally, specific hooks like a certain climax, a cliffhanger or question, or a general appeal to "epicness", comedy, sadness, etc.
All this will help your video in the future - you had close to none of them (or none to par)
Although I don't agree with the pick for teamwork I do not agree that the teamwork videos presented were on any level near what the standard for film festival should have been
And from that note, you have no right to complain, hopefully we can see greater content from you in the future -
