Not sure when you checked the tracker, but would seem the tracker has reset for the next task already.So it would show 0 because the tracker will track ZM now, this is based on your post time, assuming you checked few minutes before your post time. -

You get the crates instantly. All you have to do is go back to server selection then get back in. Its either this or he must have miscounted or maybe he did 7 games before the deadline, and the 8th was after the deadline. Anyway he gonna have to submit a ticket, and they will tell him what actually happened. I know, but tracker fails and so made me so suspicious about not getting the reward. If I've enough time, I will do it on easy/normal.LOL, You can actually die and still het the reward

Make sure you do exactly 8 or more games normal or easy works and note *** Tracker does take 3 or more hours to update"*** Sometimes updates half of your score and then 2hrs later it adds the rest of the games. This happened in my case, I finished 8 games and the tracker updated 10 minutes after I finished games showed 3 games only then 3 hours later showed 8 complete. However you do get the crates instantly, as soon as you change servers. If you get this slow update, just do few more, easy is quicker and stress free, if you are worried or you don't want to risk Ribbon:).
