What do you consider rare?

Let's have some Real Talk here-
The word "Rare" is sorta vague..

Definition: not found in large numbers and consequently of interest or value.
Source: Just googled it :P

Everyone has their own opinions about rarity, or large numbers or what they consider high in value.

For Example,
One person may say the M4 Spring is rare since there is only 20 of them.
Some may say it's not because that's too many to be considered rare
(These numbers aren't real)

So for something to be rare we need a unit of measurement or better yet we need a base line on
what "we" (The Community) believe is considered rare.

Here are some questions for everyone that wishes to answer:
1. What value in terms of Count is considered a large number?
2. If an item that is not valuable to you or has poor efficiency but is only owned by 1 player still considered rare?
3. What Would you consider "rare" in terms of reasoning?
4. Do you think we should have different levels of rarity?

In my opinion:
1. I would say anything 20 or over is large
2. I thought about this and I would say yes it's still rare even tho no one would want it
3. Something being rare Would require certain cercumstances. Such as player base, availability, obtaining difficulty.
Let's assume crossfires current player base is 500 constantly. I would say if an item is owned by 30ppl it's barely or boarderline rare. Depending whether or not it's hard to obtain or if it's only available in a set quantity.
4. Maybe if we wanna be specific on what items are rarer than others.. if anything for a comparing reasons.

P.S- It is 3:45am When I made this so I'm like half asleep, if you have anything to add to help with the main point of this thread please do I know I missed or at least messed up some key points

1: I'm not sure. Maybe under 200 or so should be considered rare. Will explain in #4.
2: By definition, yes, though I wouldn't care if they had a "rare glock" or something like that.
3: Something either very hard to get or was available for a limited time/amount. Something that you haven't been able to obtain for years (Normal Axe for example) I would consider rare even if there were 1000 people that had it, simply because 90% of them don't even play anymore. I would only count active accounts towards counting rares.
4: Yes. Anything under: 10 - Legendary, 50 - Ultra rare, 100 - Super rare, 200 - Rare, 500 - Uncommon. This is assuming the player count stays roughly where it is, with about 3 UK servers full on weekends. (I'm assuming the NA servers have a similar situation)

Nice ty for the response but for your first answer I'm talking about in general as a number what do u consider a large number?

Ah misread it. Hmm... If it's based on player count I would say 500+ is a large number.
  • Anything that's own by very limited number of people is considered rear, even if that item is ugly and useless, period. Now these items are essentially the ones that are harder to get, and this is another definition of things that are rear.

For example, European white truffle mushrooms are considered rear because it's hard to find them as they grow underground and can only be detected and found by specially trained pigs, who then dig the ground and pull the mushrooms with their mouth. They sell for over $9,000 a pound. They're not expensive cuz they have a very delicious taste, but solely because they're very difficult to obtain and require a good deal of time and effort to obtain even a small amount.
So you see this example covers all three definitions of rearity that I've stated above. It's hard to obtain, very, very less people have it, very expensive, still considered rear even if it's useless.

  • I agree with Khalifa. (except the close threat part)

Weapons that were only handed out in small numbers during events OR crates that were hard to come by. (Razer for example).
I think we should introduce a " rarity tier" from 1 to 5.
5 - 500 or more players own it
4 - 200 players or more (up to 500) own it
3 - 100 players or more (up to 200) own it
2:- only 20 players or more (up to 100) own it
    1 - everything below 20
optional "platinum tier" only 10 or less own it

    how bout dah?

This is good, but only if it's Active players. If 1000 people owned a gun but 999 didn't play anymore/got banned, then it would be rare :P
  • The definition you found of rare is totally true, the only problem what is considered 'not found in large numbers', and obviously, different people will have different opinions on it...
and yeah, rarity have different levels.
I think 0.1% will be considered as very rare.
    0.5% is rare enough..
  • I think in terms of CFNA, a rare weapon is:
    - Not currently available for sale
    - Owned by less than 250 ACTIVE users

As people mentioned, it is directly related to each game population, so in China for example, 1,000 owners probably still considered rare.

Sadly only you know the true value of how many Unique Users are active let's say per month
but 250 still seems kinda too much but ehh close enough for me.. we should make a thread for each weapon and place them in rarity tiers..

    Dear mr. Grumpy,

Could you update the list, you made a while back, with rare weapons?
  • To me, rare is anything on the "Top 25" of the least owned items list. Even if 1,000 people own the 25th rarest item, then I'd still consider it rare. Of course, we would need the GMs assistance with obtaining this list.

As for actual number, I'd say 50 or less is considered Class A rare, 100 or less is considered Class B rare. Anything 200 or less is semi-rare. Anything 500 or less is uncommon.

ok ok i see that. ill do my best and work with the GMs to make a list and keep it updated every patch
  • I think my Gold MG3 is rare I don't think alot of players even have it.

During last summer you were able to get 30 of those crates. :)

G[hostt;4435208']Permanent Axe - Ares is rare hehehehe

    ...for now...
with the addition of the collections and that being a part of the Ares collection you'll be seeing that make a return...and when it does...RIP that collection as of now has the best reward...perma wide nade ares.

I wouldn't mind seeing a list of the top 25. Though maybe it'd be cool if when we hover over our weapons in storage or on the Black Market and the description pops up...if at the bottom of the description we see a line that says "Owned by: X amount of people" And have that variable update every 24 hours with the daily resets if possible.
  • M4 spring is the rarest gun in the game. Not even 50 active users who have it.

It was on the same level as a noble beast M4A1 back in the day lol today too I guess

you do realize my Scar-Light Black is 10 times rarer than that gun :/
only 5 users own the Scar-Light Black

This just goes to show everyone has different ideas of what is considered rare. My definition seems to be similar to yours, though. I would personally argue that the Scarlight Black is rarer than the M4 Spring, even if I want the M4 a lot more than the Scarlight. Yes, we should take into consideration active players, but even then, I doubt the number of active players with M4 Spring is less than the number of active players with Scarlight Black.

*Pokes you* How about that updated list of least owned weapons. Any luck with that?

Yeah but that gun is close to garb. M4 spring you actually enjoy using in pubs. Also I wouldn't call it rare as it's in the coupon exchange mall. FeelsBad =[
  • i consider rare room withouth turks or arabs and their names abdo, ahmed , youssef, mohamed , idk, 0213213312 and so on...

Scar Light Black is no longer considered rare :)

If we're talking about Permanent versions there are also guns like M4A1 Custom ultimate gold and SL Black. Also Ares Axe is the rarest perm weapon in the game with only 7 owners(6 tourney winners and a mod).

Well there are weapons owned by one person only...

For example, only I wield the mighty Banhammer of legend.
  • For example, only I wield the mighty Banhammer of legend.

    And I paid for it.
  • How I consider a weapon as a rare :

Well, As alot of you already said above that a rare weapon is how many active users owns it , and gave it degrees (rare , super rare , extremely rare etc..), I would consider a rare weapon as its hard to find in-game , It's not just a matter of the amount of how many active users owns it ,but I mean if 300 owns it and its a well-designed weapon and OP and you enjoy using it (dream weapon) , i would still consider it as a rare weapon, which means a rare weapon in my opinion should take it degree of rarity depends on how often we see it in-game and a small percent of how many active users do actually owns it.
  • Danah wrote: »

Nah, got it from a local store. $35 or somewhere thereabouts. I appreciate the thought that you would buy me a warhammer though :) Nice of you!
