How to Improve the Competitive Scene without changing the game

I been playing this game for a very long time. I have seen all of its ups and downs from patches that were groundbreaking or patches that made my ping higher. I have dedicated most of my time to the competitive aspect of this game and I fell in love with this game. This is why I want to give some feedback to the administrators who can actually help improve the competitive scene. The following ideas are just some things that can improve the game and get more players to play competitive.

1. The Streams for Casted Matches:

Whats one way people see crossfire without actually playing the game? CrossFire on Twitch! During the WCA LAN stream, I believe there were about 2,500 viewers and CrossFire being on the front page of the Twitch channel. Improving the stream will greatly benefit and advertise the game in a positive way and a lot more players and non players would either want to play CrossFire or watch CrossFire, which are two important things we need in this game.

Ok so how do we improve the streaming of matches?
Some things that can be done are:
-Bringing back the Instant Replay/Highlights from CFS2014 Nationals!!!!!

-Having each teams lineup on a screen that pops up right before the cast (Pictures of players could be included with age, position (entry fragger/ lurker/ support), choice of weapon (Sniper/Rifler/Hybrid), W/L in matches (If its a league like ESG), etc.

-Right after the lineup is seen, you can transition to a Keys To Victory screen. This will show a teams weaknesses/strengths and will be fun just to see.

-MORE CASTERS!! We need a minimum of 2-3 casters with 1 analyst!

-MORE PRODUCTION Members! we cant have one guy doing everything behind the scenes, its virtually impossible. One question I have that someone experienced in the field can answer, Is all my ideas above possible from just online. Or does a production team need to get together? Even if they need to get together CrossFire Stars has been going on lately and no casters even got flied out to ESL Studios to cast this??

-Bringing back War Rooms. This was one of the coolest things listening to, you can hear the excitement or the anxiety of players while calling in matches. Bring this back.

-Before every professional game like Football, Basketball, Baseball, there is always a national anthem being sung. This is E-Sports, lets have someone sing the national anthem! Ok Ok just get it from youtube or something.

-After the game is done choosing a player of the game, showing their highlights and stats (frags, shots landed, headshot percentage, etc.)

-Team and Player interviews.

Just thinking about it, some of these ideas were actually used but not consistently.

2. Leagues being more consistent

ESL has been stable basically a cup every sunday, then a match once a month on Saturday. ESG has brought us the best anticheat known to CrossFire Na. Ok we all know ESL does not have a good anticheat with devote cheating over the place lets just be honest here. ESG not going to lie have been surprisingly unorganized with scheduling and communication from admins to players. Lets look at it this way. We need a league similar to ESEA, a league with an anticheat like ESGs, and ran 4 times a year: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. ESG has been doing this but we just do not know when ESG will announce their next tournament or league. Its just hard to prepare so how about this. To be more consistent, just have a league every season same dates all year around!

3. Your ideas

If you have a serious idea that can help the competitive community please write it down on this thread.

Many ideas might take some money to be put in the game but thats OK! In 2013, CrossFire made about 1 billion dollars in revenue, almost 800 million more than CS!

Thanks for reading and I am excited so see your ideas.

  • I like the suggestions especially the CF anthem. I also really like the idea of having a seasonal tournament. It makes the game feel more "alive"
  • I already suggested war rooms + player interviews (perhaps esg mumble for cfs this weekend?)

I think it was polleus who said he would work on it

Thanks I am glad you liked my ideas
  • You're a genius moe!

I think there is a problem with the amount of teams we have. When rosters get changed and people get cut people quit the game and the community gets smaller. Take tuktoyaktuk for example. There will always be five teams worth mentioning - Then five teams not worth mentioning. There's no room for new players or teams that have little experience.

Its not about prize money... People play this game for fun mostly (Besides the top teams). If a pubstar decides he wants to go competitive - He will have a hard time finding a team. Look at all the lft threads - No one even gets a response anymore not even from the random teams.

The thing is - I know the exact solution for this... It will expand the community massively.

Crossfire Europe - On their esl page they have 'matchmaking.' This is like a pug except full teams can compete. Also; If a player is on his own and looking to make an impression - He just logs on and joins a team of different players from different teams. This way; People can log on to esl and play on client. It gives a sense of reward whereby you want your win/loss ratio to be high so you can stand out. I really think bringing this to crossfire north america (Which wouldnt be too hard since Europe have it already) - Will give lower tier players a chance at competitive gameplay.

    Thats my two cents.
  • -Team and event winning sprays and namecards
    -War rooms
    -Instant replay
-Highlights at the end of matches (whole game and/or mvp)
    -Delayed spectator system
    -Utilize the ingame announcements
-Find people to consistently stream ESL and ESG (isn't very frequent anymore; also people who actually know what they're talking about with the competitive scene)
-Weekly drafts (with/without prizes) that don't die after 1 week. The one that drel helped run a while ago was good but completely disappeared after 1 event
    -Leagues that are actually... good
-Some way to display and archive stats regarding players (kdr/fpr/etc) and teams (Recent form/head-to-head results, etc)
-Interviews maybe, although not too important
-Rename echo8 to something along the lines of "Competitive Server". "North America 5" has no relevance to anyone
-Some threads with team reviews (and players possibly) like zzxq does, but hopefully better (no offense). This would mostly be for fun, but who knows; maybe it'd get a few extra pub players interested

Some of it's also on your list and some probably wont ever happen, but just random stuff I thought of
  • +1 for this thread good ideas.

I can relate to this and especially when I first joined e8 I didn't know where to start because I couldn't find a team until I found people from my clan willing to join e8. The Alpha 5 server should be renamed and allow you to restrict ZP weapons etc. This would be easier for players to find our competitive server for people who don't know where it is, they can ask on forums but this would make it easier for those who aren't familiar with forums.
  • I can't comment on this without ranting at ESG, and Mike bans anyone who criticizes his league.

  • @Moe.

High production values and organization within the community and the leagues is something important. I'll go in-depth in a few. Overall initial thoughts...interesting ideas, some good ones too.

I look forward to seeing the changes in ESG policy brought about by the players repeatedly highlighting issues within the structure of the league. As respectable businessmen, I am sure they strive to improve their product without letting their egos block them from progress.

You program an Anti Cheat that's far great than others offered and communicate to 30 different players messaging you at the same time you moron. He consistently updates and fixes problems, and trouble shoots all day. So sorry for not being like ESL that has been a absolute huge company that has tons of employees. Not to mention Mike probably works a full time job.

10 years from now you'll be living on the street.

Keep working that part time job and playing this game 4 hours a day.

I'll be laughing my ass off plugging in each added day when you login in.(x)
4x = Hours wasted on young adult life.
  • I have volunteered my services to ESG to help with the streaming and production side of the event.

I have tools that I have yet to see anyone else use for streaming such as scoreboards, match countdown, instant replay, etc.

Here is one of the things I made before https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS3ujHKuGVA

Hell I remember when I was hired to stream for WCG Canada.

Just out of curiosity how does instant replay work

I have two pcs and the one that is streaming is also recording the game in a loop. I have it set to loop every 30 seconds and when there is a big play I can save the last 30 seconds.

Unfortunately its very difficult to make it truly "instant" replay due to only 1 person running 2 computers and trying to setup the replay as fast as possible. I got the idea from the Go Pro cameras.
  • A game like crossfire will never get big in north America. You say it made 1 bil? Well I assure you most of that came from the Asian versions, hell Europe probably made more. I played this game for 5 years (regrettably), nothing ever changed. Same old people saying the same sht. There isn't enough support, and there never will be.

Consoles rule here, and if someone is going to play a PC shooter, they are going to play the much better games (cs, tf etc.) 9 times out of 10. Not everyone enjoys a tiny community where everyone knows everyone. Move on already, this game is just awful. The community is just terrible, and that's how it has been since day one. Its like being in a room full of your exes. Not very fun, lol. You can say "every community is toxic", but a bigger playerbase usually means you wont run into the same ass hats every night.

Wonder why the leagues are trash? They are ran as part time hobbies, yes -hobbies-, by people who have lives that they prioritize first, as they should. They don't make any profit from some random free to play with a competitive community of what, 50~ people? Its truly a waste of time, and effort. Anyone who plays games with the intentions of being completely serious, and "competitive", laugh at games like this. Good reason to yo.

    Tl;dr

Move on already, the game has been dead for years, and it will never revive.

    ain't that the truth
  • Biggest thing about streams and getting more viewers is having the mods post it on Crossfire. The in game banner. Have the twitch Channel scrolling the entire time the cast is on.

  • If you don't like ESG, go play ESL with Devote :)
  • They should introduce rewards for the best new e8 player of the month and team. For example, a new team/or player that joins and performs well there should be judges that choose who they think should be the winner of the month. The reward can be like 100k ZP or a permanent gun of choice.

That sounds very dumb with all due respect. EGL , despite being flawed at times, is meant for teams not ready for ESL tier teams to get known and get noticed. Being "the best" that period doesn't deserve 100k let alone a perm gun lmfao

It also doesn't make sense it would have the same reward as the presidential league by Logic since you actually have to do something to achieve it
  • The easiest way to grow the amount of people interested in competitive would be by simply making announcements in-game

Also, pls add sprays and name cards for competitive teams thx
  • all i see is talk but no action happening. i want to hear from the GMs, people who can actually do something to improve the Community but they are yet to get involved in this thread
as for the ideas within this thread i agree 100% +1 from me.
I am willing to stream EGL again Saturdays on a weekly basis. Now i am not saying i am a good streamer but i can sure work my way up there.

LETS ACTUALLY TAKE ACTION AND MAKE THIS COMMUNITY BETTER.
Starting off with removing the toxic out of the E8 community.

i'm still waiting on my wogl spray and name card for placing 2nd in wogl-o s2 5 years ago so hand those out before you work on assisting the current player base
