so what went wrong

Honestly, lack of advertisement, lack of players committing, teams dying as fast as their made, never having LANs with the LAN client, extremely harsh on the new players who try to start playing, the death of PUG's. Those are just a couple of examples. mainly, its a f2p FPS in NA. Which, typically don't last for as long as ours do.

Lots of this. The teams thing has always been an issue though. The game can regain it's player base if it started advertising again or fixed some of the problems that have been plaguing the game since I was 150% invested into this game. This is the best f2p fps and I could easily see a comeback. I personally still love this game because it doesn't feel as random as cs:go and I would love to play on LAN.Ellustrial wrote: »Arctic Combat is the wave of the future, guys.
Hahaha, I just looked it up and its dead. -
1) It's only too late because people keep hating on competitive----ex:
-awful mood of "no hope at all"
-no one supports anyone who's trying to get into competitive
2) Prize money is also an issue which I really don't understand because the money should be ready to be sent before the tournament and it really should not take 10 months to send something over paypal or check.
3) No exciting opportunities except for cf stars
4) No pugs
5) Advertisement (not only on websites and stuff but).... Seriously if you can put a message up online in CF like the one hinting towards logic I'm pretty sure it isn't hard at alllllllll to say stuff like
"Interested in playing competitive? Go to __________ and do ____________!"
or
"Come watch ___________ and see _________ play against _____________!"
other stuff and such like that
6) This kind of goes into #5 for people who are yet not interested. You could give out REASONABLE <
(Not disgusting horrible cheap codes-spray-backpacks-or any stupid character items)
Situation currently if you put up a message to most people who aren't competitive:
Without handing out prizes:
"Oh cool people playing I don't care!"
How it could be with again (REEEEEEEAAAAASOOOOONABLLLLE PRIZE HANDOUTS)
"Oh cool pros playing... Hey WAIT! I can also get _________ , ___________, __________, and _________ if I watch! Maybe ill come watch!
Oh wow this actually looks exciting maybe ill try it sometime!" -

CF EU probably did their part, if we drop the NA focus for a second.
Most EU teams moved on to CF EU, because ESL did. ESLs ladder drew a pretty large competitive crowd way back when.
In recent years though, I like to think devs are mostly to blame, to me at least it's the little things that deter from competitive play. Armor/gun room settings, laggers.
My issues though, which don't really matter cause competitive EU is dead and will never live here. -

CF will never get big in EU again because of CS:GO too though. -

Couldn't agree with this more. In my opinion there is more for the comp community in the last 6 months than there ever has been however the lack of advertising has be disgusting. There are such bitter rivalries because its the same people playing each other night in and night out, no new competition and because everyone is so ****ed at each other they absolutely discourage new teams. Not pointing fingers, I was very guilty of the last statement.I think creating a brand new trailer is quite a good move too. I remember watching the very first trailer and getting excited to play crossfire after watching it with how they presented things in that trailer.
Haha, I actually agree. the OG trailer was strangely appealing. -
This is only my humble opinion,
I think because this game is marketed towards kids, and no efforts are made towards making it a competitive game. In other words, this is not meant to be a competitive game, so don't expect it to be one.
Cs go has a mode that is literally called "competitive" and it's for those who want a fair and square game. When I try to pub, if i don't get owned by a cheater (which we have more of than legit players I think) I get owned by some one who has invested tons of money into the game. As long as Money beats skill, game wont grow.
The competitive scene by it self was and is good, but we can not practice due to cheaters and zp.
As long as z8games (who has no say on this game, I understand) puts their energy on adding childish skins and over powered gun, the fan base will shrink. -
easy solution:
Take one of the useless server like foxtrot or whatever it's called nowadays
make a 'competitive' client which consists of accordingly competitive items
put the foxtrot server in that client
this 'competitive' client HAS to be stayed and maintained with competitive gp guns, scenes and all that other jazz
market the SH!T of this whole 'new' competitive client crossfire has.
Watch the fanbase grow while their bank account shrink and only hope for people from the 'competitive' client go to the original 'sandbox' client to buy zp guns.
I would now accept an offer from z8games as a marketing manager.
