they havent declared war, crimea requests help from russia, russia gives it, but everyones so derp and calling it an invasion, even though crimea is semi-autonomous from ukrain

The armed force that came first bears no flag or symbol, so you can't actually prove they're Russian (although it's most likely Russians). There are some Russian government official over there, as well as civilians because of the Russian Navy base, which is what Russia can use as a pretext to take action and protect these people.
I'm fairly sure Moscow will claim the armed force are CIA/MI6 agents, kinda like they did in Kiev. -

An extremely important Russian naval base is also in the area under contract, which the new government wants to end to further befriend EU.
There is so much contradictory information available whenever Russia is involved, because they're always the bad guy in western media, so everything is.. skewed.
(i'm not saying any of the above is the "real" reason)
I personally would like to think they're simply defending their citizens and base.
They couldn't take over Ukraine, and would have very little to gain by going beyond protection of their stuff. -

I hope you were just making an off-hand remark without putting any thought into it...
OT: I don't think the US will be able to do much about it, similar to what happened in South Ossetia/Georgia. Also, I would think that the US would not have the available funds to wage a conflict on the conventional scale needed for a victory. Nor would I think the people would have the energy for one, after a decade of conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq. -
