ESG Write up #1:Winter Series, Non competitive maps, Q/A
Hello friends,
Podcasts are being put on hold. I'm not in the best area to be recording audio, and I'm not sure when or if that will change.
As an alternative, i'm going to put out a weekly write up where I will talk about various topics, as well as answer questions from the community. I'm not the best at writing, so please give me some constructive criticism. I also ask to give your thoughts on the topics, as I want this to be more of a discussion, rather than something you just read. So lets get started!
ESG Winter series
As im sure everyone in the competitive scene knows, ESG winter series is underway. You can find the Groups Here, and your week 1 matches Here.
If you haven't already, please read over the rules. I really hate having to overturn matches just because someone didn't read the rules. You can find the full rule set here
I recently saw a thread that was about a match of the week stream. This is something that is already in place. Later today we are going to make a poll with a few different matches, and you the players will get to vote on what match you want to see this weekend. We plan on having a vote every week to decide what match to cast.
Power rankings & predictions is something we plan on doing. I'm not sure when this will be put in place, but its something we're going to push for during this event. If you would like to be a part of this please PM me on the z8 forums, and I'd be happy to talk to you.
If you have any questions regarding the event please send us a support ticket on our website.
Non competitive maps
Now when i say "Non competitive maps", these are maps that currently are not being played in a majority of the current events, including ours(ESG).
Maps that are currently being played in events
Maps that are not currently played in events(A few of these have been played in community ran events recently)
So, why are these maps not played? Well for one, these maps are not played on the international stage. So why does that stop online events from using them? I have played almost all of these maps at some point of my esports career, and i do think SOME of them should be played competitively, but that's my opinion, I want to hear yours!
Questions I want to ask you (The community)
Lets start a discussion on this topic here on this thread. I really want to hear feedback..
Questions & Answers
When we first had the idea of doing podcasts, I made a thread where community members could post questions. I'm going to answer some of those now.
[Q] Will armors be allowed in the future tournaments?
If yes, then will it be provided to every participants now that you guys are partnered with G4box?-triggerGOD
[A] As of right now we have no plans for armor in future events.
[Q]What made you all want to do this? -Ellustrial
[A]I'm not sure about the others who run ESG, but this one is pretty easy for me. I have been playing this game nearly 5 years, 4 of those years playing competitively. Once WOGL officially shut down there was a dark period of absolutely no tournaments or leagues. All you could do was pub & scrim. I got really tired of having no leagues to play. I teamed up with dren to discuss an idea for a league ran by players for players. This turned into CFL, and we had 2 successful seasons. This eventually led to ESG coming out and me helping them.
But yeah, long story short, there was just no events to play in crossfire. So I changed that.
[Q]Who all is involved with this / staff introductions?-Ellustrial
[A] Alright so lets see here!
Iceman, Polleus, and Mike(MyAntiCheat): are in charge of everything involving business, marketing, management, and anti-cheat design.
Erick: Event Manager, Head Event Administrator
Envsn: Event Administrator, Caster
Muffin: Event Administrator
Ayce/Sathy: Support Staff
Chris: Support Staff
Laura: Support Staff
Lionheart: News Writer
You will start seeing more of Muffin, Ayce, Chris, and Laura this event.
[Q]Future ESG News writers / current ones? Do you intend to expand on that section (it rather died off after it's enthusiastic acceptance, which surprised me)? -Ellustrial
[A]The only news writer we have dedicated to just news writing is Lionheart. We do have plans to expand this section and hope to have it active again. It was pretty successful and entertaining. We will be looking for news writers in the near future, so look out for that if anyone is interested.
[Q]Can you provide details on who will be streaming future events for you? Casters? -Ellustrial
[A] We will be casting 1 match per week in our ESG Winter series event. Sadly, Gecks isn't going to be apart of this due to him being at school. So we're looking to bring in Bruce to cast with Envsn.
Thats all for this write up, it wasn't much but i hope you enjoyed it.
Please suggest topics and questions for the next write up! I plan to have it out sometime next week!

I personally think having new maps in the rotation will bring out better competition.
Most if not all current competitive players knows the ins and outs of the current map that have been used for years. Adding new maps will make map players try new strategies and possibly build more teamwork. -

I'm pretty sure a lot of the people playing currently haven't even touched some of those maps in competitive yet.
In Dag and I's days we played every map that was out at the time.. -

As much as I agree that more maps in the rotation would introduce more interesting strategies/gameplay, the map pool consists of those maps because they're the international standard, like Erick said.
I'm definitely interested in working something out with regards to a more diverse map pool for non-international seasons, i'll discuss that with everyone else. -
Maps that should/need to be introduced (either back or for the first time) into competitive play: Ceyhan, Eagle Eye, Santoria, Factory.
Eagle Eye: It should be reintroduced. I personally hate the map, but it's so small, it forces teams to either be completely relaxed or on the aggressive. Its a well balanced map that any round can easily be turned around, and has some pretty wicked spots and things you can do that's a little unconventional.
Ceyhan: Like others have said, this map has a lot to it that the current 5 maps don't. And that's the feel of weird spots and different angles. This map is also pretty well balanced depending on how the teams play it. Ceyhan has a lot of good positioning as well as a history inside of the crossfire competitive play. It's a well built map that needs to be reintroduced.
Santoria: This map I feel has a certain "aura" to it that other maps lack. This is the only really dark lighted map we have, besides port. It gives off a different feel. I know me personally, this was the very first map I did a PUG on, like 3-4 years ago. But anyways, it's a well built map that has good angles and different ways to enter all the sites and ways to hold them. It's not sided and can easily be a competitive map.
Factory: This map should never have stopped. The only bad thing about this map is the spam spot on A long, but that's easy to stop considering it would be against tournament rules. This map is straight up great. It has a lot of angles and different ways to try to work a pick. Has lots of ways to hold a site, or to disappear from the enemy team's sight. This map badly needs to be reintroduced.
These are just my personal feelings and reasoning for these 4 maps to be reintroduced. I think they're all great, and that we should stop only practicing the "International 5". We have these great maps. Why not play them as well? Kind of a waste -
You should definitely bring these maps back:
Ceyhan
Factory
Eagle eye
The mine
Santoria
I think these 5 extra maps would give the competitive scene now more of a variety. Even though I hated factory, it's still a decent competitive map. & of course Santoria is like wOa's staple map. But yeah I just checked these forums today and saw this post and thought I should let you know. & even though there are already 5 maps you guys use in rotation, it's not hard to practice for an extra few maps. You don't have to add all of these back, but in my opinion ceyhan is a really good map along with the mine. -

Like this one
Edit: I'm sure many would oppose an "open gun" tournament but I would still like to know.Any idea on sprays or namecards? ;o
