Cheaters and CrossFire

  • Z8Games is ONLY the name of a website and the portal, meaning they distribute CrossFire. It technically isn't even a company. Besides, there is really no need for any more than 10-20 employees working directly with CF at Z8. That's all that is necessary. Having too much people congested in a single department, interacting with and managing CrossFire may cause problems. You do have to realize that Z8 isn't EA and they're not supposed to be.

The bigger picture is set for Smilegate, who holds the license with G4Box (this is how CF NA/UK was released and is still running today) and is under contract with WiseLogic for the integration of X-Trap into CrossFire. For those of you who thinks Z8Games can just "cancel" that contract with WL, you're wrong. Z8 cannot sign or repeal contracts, AT ALL.

Alright thanks for explainning that to me :)

  • No, not really. Although Z8Games is a growing portal of partnership and publish of new games like Arcane Hearts and Lost Saga, I'm willing to bet you that 50-80% of the employees at Z8Games have absolutely zero ties with CrossFire. There are actually separate offices at the HQs. I'm sure that they know about CrossFire, but they just don't work with it at all.

Over the years, things have changed and the guys who worked with CrossFire at Z8Games are no longer around anymore. I'm not even sure that there are 75 employees there - I'm going to leave that to Saidin to confirm if he chooses to. But we can see that dramatic change... especially when Hpx and Swifty recently announced their resignation. Some GMs that I've recognized and have interacted with in the past years are no longer in position, especially have the Metin2 "move".

Where are you getting those percentages? I don't believe it. The redundancy of running a billing department, support department, server admins, etc. wouldn't be financially feasible to be spread all over into separate groups like that. The GM's that have spoken about things here on the forum have said that one person there is more than capable of doing more than one thing. I.E. having a skeleton crew on the weekend etc. to run the company.
  • How much G4 makes is none of our business.
Speculating as if increased income is directly connected to less cheats if the company so chooses is beyond words.

    Phew.

Seems like quite a bit of misinformation going on here. Lets try to correct it.

First off lets get some names right. Z8Games is the name of a location, sometimes we here refer to ourselves as Z8Games, and the confusion is logical. However it is inaccurate.

Z8Games is the name of a portal, and essentially the name of our community of games. It is not, however, the name of the people who have contracted the X-Trap anti cheat solution. That would be G4Box.

G4Box is the company which owns the licenses for the games we publish.

Smilegate is the developer of CrossFire and is the parent and owner of G4Box.

G4Box in conjunction with Smilegate also has contracted with a company called Wiselogic who makes X-Trap. http://www.wiselogic.co.kr/

X-Trap is a client side anti cheat solution which prevents known hacks from entering into the game.

X-Trap can also force a kick out of the game if it detects a hack that is being run after the game starts.

X-trap updates between 3 and 5 times every 7 days. On average it updates once every 48 hours.

X-Trap does not have some sort of "vip level of service" that we're not paying for. We have a contract with X-Trap that has the features of X-Trap applied for CrossFire and for our game. It has nothing to do with some sort of conspiracy of X-Trap having special treatment for something.

HGW is a server side game watcher developed by Smilegate. HGW is the main add-on issuing game kicks and bans.

HGW gets updated every 24 hours with hacks submitted by our team (and all the other CrossFire teams around the world). This system is the system that is doing all the automatic banning.

In addition, we are working with Smilegate on HGW to improve the response time and turnaround time for updates.

Automatic banning is set to prevent mass loss of users due to false detections. We do not want to all of a sudden implement an update that causes 95% of the population to be banned.

We have game data, x-trap kicks, hgw bans, reports, and playing which suggest a general % of the population hacking. It's lower than what everyone assumes and higher than it has been in the past. We are highly aware of that situation. We're also working with the resources stated above to improve those systems.

For example, the latest X-Trap update (which came today) changes how we will be preventing some hacks from entering into the game. The update has been pushed live and we now monitor the results for effectiveness. Then report those results back to Wiselogic and work with them on the next implementation.

    So where do we stand?

    1) We are aware of the situation.
    2) There are internal things going on here which we cannot discuss about the best options to improve the situation (beyond relying on X-Trap updates etc).
    3) We have a solution to the reporting problem which we should see be ready for testing in a couple of weeks. Though this schedule is not final.
    4) HGW and X-trap update constantly and are constantly in communication with us for updates and to relay the game status to them.
    5) We continue to go in game and kick hackers manually and ban permanently for reports we see and handle.
    6) HGW is banning a lot of people already.

Hopefully some of these points can help further the understanding.

Theory 3: Make CrossFire P2P (Pay to play). As simple as 10$ to download or create an account would stop cheaters, but would not stop players. You will still have a huge player base and way less people will risk getting banned cheating to pay another 10$ to create an account.

    P2P? Honestly...
  • I have nothing to complain about this game. I left it alone for 4 years but it didn't miss me as would I have felt the same way. Just play for fun and for memes.
  • Come on DB. This post is SIX years old.
    Leave it alone.
