My ping went from 56 to 39 on Alpha, not bad.

Well thats because the servers moved closer to your house. Duh

    Your In Game Ping
Due to the security measures we have taken, we have reason to believe your ping in game may not be as accurate as you would like.

We need to run some tests on this fact to determine the best course of action moving forward.

Please note that a ping change of 35 - 45 is not going to be noticeable in game.

First off, a ping change of 35 - 45 is noticeable, especially if the people you play with haven't had their pings changed and my ping has jumped from around 75 to 125, which is 50 more than what it normally is.

Dear god..... How much more do you have to lie to yourself..?
  • How does the ping go up if the server didnt move? The maintenance today solved the problem with the servers being unstable, so how are the pings going to be fixed?
  • Cross Fire always seems to have this issue, but it generally gets fixed in time. As I said, I personally won't write a essay at Z8 unless my ping averages over 100.

Thanks for the info and clarification Saidin.
  • I really don't understand..

My internet got upgraded so technically my ping should be better. However, it was around 60-65 before internet upgrade.

Now my internet has been upgraded and my ping is currently 100..

What I understand is that the servers has not been moved...So why the high ping?!

Is there anyway i can get back to my normal ping? (i cant move closer to server anytime soon :( )
  • Doubled in alpha (sub 20 to 38-40), remained the same in bravo (sub 20).
I'll hang out in alpha for a bit, maybe get a Canadian channel going :D

Deeeeerp no edit. hang out it "bravo" for a bit. >.<
  • Ping is the time it takes to return a response from a server so if it takes longer than usual then either your internet got worse or the server moved or is less responsive.

With that said and the amount of people getting worse pings I would say the server moved.

Ofc we could be wrong and the server could just be less responsive however if that was the case it would not explain many others getting better pings.

Verdict: The server did move, maybe not far but it did.

My observations are the Alpha server has returned to where it was before it was moved last time, so time ago.

    Attention all Conspiracy Theorists!

For those convinced on conspiracy that the servers are moving etc etc we'd like to give you an official statement.

CrossFire works with multiple tunnels and multiple servers. Just because someone can ping some packets and obtain a few IP addresses does not mean it is accurate information.

The mmoserverstatus website is not an official link to determine the status of the CrossFire servers.

We have now taken steps to increase our security such that you can't just ping an IP address and determine whether a server is up. The ping will send you elsewhere and it will return false information.

    Server Locations
The NA Server locations have not changed. They are still located in the same places as they were 2 weeks ago.

Please note that we own the license for all of North America, which means if we wanted to move a server from Toronto to New York we have the full authority to do so.

    They have however, not moved.

    UK Server Locations
Over the last 2-3 months we have migrated the UK servers to a server bank in Germany. Our parent company SGI, a subsidiary of Smilegate decided that this was the best course of action. It happened in multiple stages, some servers were kept in England and then finally moved over to Germany.

SGI, owns the license for CF EU, and they also own G4Box so there is no conflict with the licenses for the games.

Please note that at this time the IP restrictions between CF EU and CF NA will remain.

We apologize for the lack of information on this fact.

This will be the last we will be discussing of this fact until further notice.

    Your In Game Ping
Due to the security measures we have taken, we have reason to believe your ping in game may not be as accurate as you would like.

Please note that a ping change of 35 - 45 is not going to be noticeable in game.

We are not obligated to inform the public about these changes, especially due to security reasons. But this minimal amount of information should suffice to help alleviate some concerns. Server stability, security and user experience still remain at the forefront of our goals.

We apologize for the inconveniences that some of this has caused, but please understand that it's for the long term goal of growth, stability and security for the game.

Last days my ping from 80 is 99-110 for some reason and the weapons chage slower than before so it's a bit difficult to play . I called my internet company and they said my internet is fine and they don't know why i'm lagging . Is there any chance that the servers do that or you're going to fix it ?
PS:Many friends of mine have lag after the last maintenance . ( Before paypal issues )
  • Saidin why u lied then?
When people asked if server moved to Germany you said no? ...
    nvm.
    My ping lowered from 60 -> 36 *.*

Lol that's the administration for you.

They tell the community nothing changed because they believe we all dumb enough to swallow it hook line and sinker and to minimise complaints.

    They moved the UK servers to Germany, I believe for 2 reasons;

    1) Germany is a bigger populace and probably a larger portion of the EU player base.

    2) With the servers being in Germany they are better placed to serve the Arabs and Muslims and other third world countries that swamp UK servers.

Then told us they didn't move.

Now they have moved Alpha, not far but enough for everyone to get different pings.

Either, Saidin tries to mislead us all or he is ill informed by those who do the server work.
  • saidin... of course a ping increase of 34-45 doesnt matter....

HOW ABOUT FROM 68-70 ALL THE WAY TO 500?

Btw this I live in Vancouver, Canada. NOT GOD DAMN MARS

Your ping is stable at 500?
Varies only plus minus a few millisecond like ping always does, between 495 and 505?
  • My ping went from 180 to 165 on Alpha, not bad. :)

How come everyone says that they were moved tho?
  • Okay, so if UK servers were moved, why the hell do i still have the same ping?
My ping when UK servers were opened was 100~120
My ping when UK servers were moved is still 100~120

And I didn't upgrade my internet nor downgrade it.
Someone please explain that to me I'm confused :|

England-Germany is mostly a move along the longitudinal axis.
So its pretty much the same distance for you, being far south of both countries.

The internet doesn't necessarily work in a straight line, but clearly the route for your connection is similarly efficient between Egypt-UK and Egypt-Germany.
  • My Ping Changed From 80-90 to 160-200 .... Unbelievable ... And I Cant Play Neither Am Allowed to ( Getting Kicked Always), And I Guess You Wont Be Returning The Servers To UK Any Where Soon, At least Now Call It Gr Server -.-, I Guess It Is Time To Quit CF Anyway.

I Went To Speedtest.net And Checked My Ping In Every Server In Germany And It was all In Range of 80-90 Like, Except For Hamburg, Bad oldesloe and Norderstedt Which Gave Me A Ping of 180 Which I Do Have In All Of UK Servers :( So Is That Where You Did Move Your Servers ? , I Need To Know For Sure Please.
  • hmm, ppl discuss here ping issues about 20-30 milliseconds.. on the other hand, they dont kick high ping players with pings far ahead of 250....

u guys realize that high ping players lagg out the game more than server movements?

aswell, if there woudnt be a ping displayed ingame, most of you woudnt care at all...

so get your focus back on the real topics, stop beeing such a ping fetish and calm down.

90 % of the post in here are really childish, on my opinion those guys dont eaven know what they are really talking about.

seems a bit like a religous discussion here.

maybe they should remove the ping counter completley out of the tab screen, so this pointless discussion will end, coz high pingers wont get kicked anyway, that would be the only benefit for this number displayed.

may sound harsh, but if u gyse can yell at them, you should be man enugh to take this one.

    regards
  • :) Check your internet provider too ....

Personally i have ADSL connection, a constant speed around 1,7 MBps (or 13.6 Mbps)
-> my ping on UK was 65-70 with servers in UK
-> now my ping are 50-55 with servers on Germany :) same as on CF Eu

I always play on UK (normally i'm from Romania - East Europe)...
BUT on Alpha-Delta i have SAME ping from 2010 around 120-150...

For NA players: My advise check your PC and your internet provider ...
LET'S SAY if you are in Toronto and have 20 Mbps on Toronto speedtest servers and bearly 10-11 Mbps outside Toronto (on next sepeedtest server) then your provider SU**S !!! you only have high speed on your town (internet LAN area) - worse provider

ISP has nothing to do with it.... you can pay for the fastest most expensive ISP out there and still have the worst ping in game, it matters about where server location is and where you are located in the world. That is how your ping is calculated, not by how fast your ISP is.
  • why cant you guys make a new server in the middle east? Specifically "Egypt,KSA,UAE,Oman..etc"

AS there's no CF version for this region.

    Really.
Doesnt z8 always deny the servers being attacked, but yes its a good idea so you cant see server status unless you log in for 'security', which is like 5 min for some people. And what kind of innacuracy reguarding ping could keep what apears to be a stable number while the ping difference is different for every player.

Also, pmd that install with cf now makes ur ping unstable because its like having bittorrent running. doesnt use much of ur network connection but that doesnt seem to matter..
  • My Ping moved from 20 to 60 o.o
My FPS has been decreased too, now I only have about 5-30 fps when I play! o.o

So the increase in ping and ping inaccuracies is something Z8 put in to effect to prevent mmoserverstatus pinging some packets?

Yet they are still pinging those packets because otherwise there would all be offline or red: http://www.mmoserverstatus.com/crossfire

Might as well just let them ping they are anyway.

Oh, now it makes sense !
