Uncheck Enhance pointer precision.
This is a much easier fix for someone who doesn't want to mess with the Registry. And I would only do this if I had a Gaming mouse where you can set it the way you want.
is the acceleration bar in that rare window a master control for all mouse movements?
enhance pointer precision is not the same thing as acceleration. -
mouse keys is using your pointer with the numpad, and is turned off by default.

Yes.
The default settings for the mouse have acceleration enabled. About half way up.
Setting to low will make the mouse pointer move very slowly in relation to the movement of the mouse.
Enhance pointer precision
With it on move your mouse 3 inches on the desk quickly then slowly. The distances traveled between the two will be different.
With precision off it will remain the same distance no matter the speed the mouse is moved.
Now with that said, I would only set this way. If you have a gaming mouse that has its own program to set the way you like. I didn't want to take away from the OP post. The way he does it is a gamers way. This way is for the guy that doesn't feel comfortable playing around in the computer. -
Didn't work for me unfortunately. Can't tell if it's any better or worse but it's definitely still there. Can anyone tell me what the default values are so I can change them back and compare?
This way anyone can revert back if anyone feels the fix is "not working up to it's potential. " -

lololl Dude. I know what you mean! My mom's Laptop's track pad SUCKS.. You touch it and the cursor is uncontrollable..
Basically it's broken -_- -
I've done some googling and as far as I can tell this is basically the same thing as the cpl/cheesemousefix, which would explain why some are reporting it worked if they didn't previously have either of these fixes. But this doesn't specifically affect Crossfire's built in mouse acceleration which is coded into the game and I'm guessing can only be fixed by the developers. To test it out move your mouse (in game) very slowly across a certain distance then go back quickly. You should notice your crosshair go further than it did at first
