Entirely rid of mouse acceleration in any Windows version.
King_Kevin wrote: »This has been talked about for ages, it's been bugging me since I returned to playing CF. Every swipe with the mouse turns you a different amount because of mouse acceleration. I have used MarkC windows 7 mouse accel fix, however CF is the only game that still suffers mouse acceleration.
Can we get a fix for this so I don't have to play with mouse acceleration? Or do we have to wait for the Chinese version of CF to fix it first so the NA/UK version can just copy and paste
On a side note, if anyone has a remedy for this please, for the sake of being able to aim to our full abilities, share your knowledge!
Permanent Acceleration Fix
To completely remove mouse acceleration, you will need to go into the registry and adjust the SmoothmouseXYCurve values. Here is how its done.
1. Click Start button
2. Select Run
3. Type 'regedit' in the open textbox
4. Open the tree 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER', select control panel, then select mouse
5. Right clicking, modify the SmoothMouseXCurve and SmoothMouseYCurve hexidecimal values to the following:
SmoothMouseXCurve:
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
00,a0,00,00,00,00,00,00
00,40,01,00,00,00,00,00
00,80,02,00,00,00,00,00
00,00,05,00,00,00,00,00
SmoothMouseYCurve:
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
66,a6,02,00,00,00,00,00
cd,4c,05,00,00,00,00,00
a0,99,0a,00,00,00,00,00
38,33,15,00,00,00,00,00
If done correctly, you will notice you are holding a markedly more responsive mouse.;)
I'll see if I can make this into a regfix file to easily add it to the registry.
Added: Uploaded the file as .zip @ mediafire http://www.mediafire.com/?j4nw381kt1hi5ac
download it, click it, then follow directions.. answer yes to all windows. (Recommend a restart when finished)
*This is a fix for aggressive acceleration in windows. Beyond this, acceleration issues would only be from the game's written-in acceleration (which currently cannot be altered, enhanced. )

To those less tech savvy be warned:
Editing your registry can screw up your entire computer if you don't know what you are doing. Also, programs that edit the registry can very easily be used to take over your computer and could wipe out everything if they wanted to. -

I second this, but hawkish would never do that -

It's not a program. Just edited mouse registry values.I second this, but hawkish would never do that
This being such a small fix to the registry makes viewing the contents less of a hassle.
If anyone were to be wary, checking the contents of the file could reassure them.
In case:
Right click the file, choose edit, it'll open for viewing...then confirm it's the x,y number sets and no other "fishy" stuff. *But don't change any number values, or it will null the acceleration fix..and may impair pc functioning. -

it is ...helpful insight though..

I was just mentioning it so people know in general it's very risky editing registry values; if I actually thought you were trying to screw up people's PCs I would have inspected the code lolAlmost all computers come default where everytime you move your mouse then stop, the mouse on screen will keep moving. So basically there is a delay on the screen.
I don't believe that's what he's talking about with mouse acceleration...
Example of mouse acceleration:
You move the mouse 50px with no acceleration so the mouse goes 50px, as you'd expect
You move the mouse 50px with acceleration so the mouse goes 75px, unexpectedly
Another way of thinking of it is if you've played killzone and Cross Fire. In kill zone, the longer you turn, the faster you turn. In Cross Fire it doesn't matter how long you move the mouse, it will stay at the same speed.
Sorry, I suck at explaining things even when I know what I'm talking about -
add-
Mouse acceleration means that the faster you move the mouse, the further the cursor will go on screen.
There is a thing called an acceleration curve which means that the cursor doesn't move at a set speed, it will increase exponentially.
9 out of 10 gamers will agree that mouse accel is not good to have on in First Person Shooter games. It makes it harder for your muscle memory to "remember" how far to move your hand when aiming, if that makes sense
Most pro's can confirm that if you have been using mouse accel, to disable it and relearn aiming without it, because it will be beneficial in the long run. -

I used to use a Micro mouse when I used the laptop. It's a little tricky to adjust to, but still worked better than the touchpad.
This fix is intended for Mice, not so much mouse-tracks/touchpads. -
Why not get an inexpensive mouse to hook into your laptop?

yeah i know, i used it with my mouse and it works well, just i don't bring my mouse to work or school ahah, spend most of my hours there -
I tried this and it ruined my mouse completely. It doesn't work for Windows 8, you should have mentioned that, or said you didn't know if it was correct for windows 8.
1. It doesn't "ruin" a mouse. You can search for the default settings for your windows version and replace them if you had an issue.
2. This method was introduced to me. As it has worked for me, I felt it proper to share due to it's helpful nature.
next time, if you would, send me a pm. -

I am running Windows 8, and it didn't do anything bad, then the thing it was supposed to do.
I can state it personally. - IT WORKS ON WIN8. -
Windows 7
Go to Control Panel.
Ease of Access
Ease of Access Center
Make the mouse easier to use
Click ‘Set up Mouse Keys’
Put acceleration all the way down.
Then Control Panel.
Hardware and Sound
Mouse
Pointer Opitions
Uncheck Enhance pointer precision.
This is a much easier fix for someone who doesn't want to mess with the Registry. And I would only do this if I had a Gaming mouse where you can set it the way you want.
