List of contents
Please note some following things before reading the actual guide : This guide is not finished yet. This means that it has some missing points or is just not complete yet due to things that take some more time than we expected. Since these things are not that important in order to understand the guide, we post it now, because people have been waiting for the guide for a long time and it's nearly finished.

Please note also that this guide is not perfect (yet.) There will always be mistakes, that's human's nature. Because of that I want to ask you, if you spot a mistake, that you PM/Post in the guide what's wrong - we will either test it or immediately change it if it's completely obvious. The damage stats are sometimes really hard to do, especially the body/chest things with or without armor, so it can be the case that those stats are wrong, but it's very unlikely since we were working quite concentrated and carefully. We will do the videos quite soon, and please understand that these videos take some time!

Thanks to Rory and his videos who taught me that the second slash does more damage than the first one, we didn't test it with the melees yet, because as we started to test the damages, we weren't aware of that fact. We excuse, but it's not that much of a problem, it does only 10/15 damage more than usual and does never more damage to the head. It's also quite unlikely that you hit with the second slash first, and then hit again with the first slash. In the end, it doesn't really matter, but we will test and add it as soon as we have much time. Please understand that.

The knifing techniques are those, which I use. I use them often in competitive matches, if you have other techniques which work, please tell me that.
Thanks in advance. :)

    axenormalcompi.png
    2.1.1 Axe Normal

    damagesatsaxenormal.png

    Use of the Axe:
First of all, the Axe is a great melee. It has got a very accurate slash, not a wide one, which is perfect to aim for the head (that's maybe the reason why you see so many Axe users slashing the head)
It does not the highest damage while slashing, but it still does 100 Damage through a bullet-proof helmet, which is the biggest advantage and feature the axe has, because no other melee got this feature.
The right-click (stab) is not the best - it isn't a 1HK everywhere like all other melees (except the Knife). This is still not the biggest disadvantage a melee could have, because it's very rare that you just do 80 damage to your enemy, because
the Axe tends to hit the body more often even if you don't focus/aim on it. The pull-out speed is compared to other melees really slow, but this
is only important in situations where you really need the melee in gun matches. You can counter gangers with it easily, also the step-back is very easy thanks to the accurate slash.

My own opinion to the Axe is that it's just awesome - I think it's the smartest melee, it saves you in many situations! There was a permanent Axe available for 50 Coupons a while ago, but now it's only temporary available which is really sad.
This move wasn't healthy to the knifing community, many people I knew left the game, because they wanted a permanent axe so bad, but then it just disappeared. In knife only rooms, there are more knife-users now, which makes the whole thing just boring.
Even the 90 Day Axe for 15 Coupons was very nice to have, but we have to move on and at least we've got even a better axe available in ZP Crates now!

The Xmas Axe is like the normal one, which surprised me quite a bit, but then again this axe has been released since quite a long time and they started to release 1HK Axes just some time ago.

The Octane Axe made me really wonder - I mean, it is a limited ZP Crate Axe and it got the same stats as the normal Axe.. this fact disappointed me quite a bit, because I thought it is like the other Axes like Royal, Rose and WCG. It's still a good Axe and besides this it's also a permanent one. So if you didn't get a normal permanent Axe, then definetely get this, as long as you don't have another 1HK Axe.

So all in all we can say, that

+ It has a very accurate slash
+ You can counter ganger quite easily
+ You can compete with competitive players
+- Doesn't do 1 HK while stabbing on the leg/feet/arm/hand, although it's rare
    - The stab and slash both haven't got a wide hit-range
    - Slow pull-out time

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    axebettercompi.png
    2.1.2 Axe Rose / Royal / WCG

    damagestatsaxevariantsr.png

I'm listing the "reskins" of the Axe in a extra part, because they are actually different. They are different in a positive way, which makes them worth buying/getting, but most of these are either available for a limited time or already got removed.

These Axes do more damage while slashing and stabbing - the more damage while slashing isn't the important part, because you are dealing like 70/80 damage (10 damage more), the interesting part is the right-click attack! These Axes are a 1 Hit Kill everywhere!! This makes them (in my opinion) to the best melees in the game, because no other melees does 100 damage to a bullet-proof helmet and does a 1HK right-click.

It is the same in all other parts, though I'm not yet sure if they have the same speeds while slashing, etc. but we will test it and I'm pretty sure they're the same.

The only disadvantage is the small hit-range it has, unlike the Kukri, but I think with some practice it is manageable. So, get the WCG Axe for thousands of days!

    cooltext4.png

    brassiesfists.png
2.2.1 Brass Knuckles & Warmonger Fists
    damagestatsbrassiesandf.png

    Use of the Brass Knuckles:

The Brass Knuckles are all in all a good melee! The slash isn't that strong, but it's really fast, so you can knock out your enemy really fast! The stab is a one-hit everywhere,
which is a really good thing, it has a good hit-range, not that wide like on the Kukri or Katana, but still somewhere in between the Baton and Kukri! However, the stab is just really fast, if you are used to any other melee you will need some time to get used
to its fast stab, it's like twice as fast as most other melees, e.g the axe. The pull-out time is also quite fast, but now let's talk about the only disadvantage... You feel like you're walking with a rucksack full of stones, in other words, you're really slow with them.
You're still faster than with the Katana, but still, those Knuckles are really heavy!

    + Ridiculously fast slash
    + Ridiculously fast stab
    + Fast pull-out speed
    +- Hit-range
    - You're really slow with them
    - Low slash damage

    Use of the Warmonger Fists:

You can use the Fists just like the Brass Knuckles, just that the Fists are slower in every aspect, that they only have a range of 2,75m (according to GodsGunman) and have a different appearance. They do the same damage, everything is the same except those things stated above.

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    katanaboth2.png
    2.3.1 Katana & Variants
    damagestatskatanaallrig.png

    Use of the Katana:

Well, the Katana. Let's say it in the beginning : it's not the best melee. The slash speed is just ridiculously slow, the slash doesn't do a 1HK to the head , it's just not powerfull. The only thing that could make the
bad thing about the slash good is the stab, but the stab is not that good either. Of course, it has a very wide hit-range, but you're just very slow while holding down the right click and the enemy can just give you a headshot or jump towards you. The bad thing is, you're slow while running with the katana anyway..
Until you really hit the enemy with the stab, it takes also quite long. The pull-out time, (how surprising), is also slow.. So, all in all, it's just a bad melee. Of course, it can be handled, but an axer has an easy game with you and your katana. (I would really recommend using the knife instead of this.)

    + Wide hit-range
+ 1 HK everywhere while stabbing
    - Slow stab
    - Slow slash
    - Low damage while slashing
    - Slow pull-out time
    - You're really slow with it

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    kniferegular.png
    2.4.1 Knife Normal
    damagestatspicknifenorm.png

    Use of the Knife:

Okay, let's come to our basic knife ,(and in my opinion the melee which makes the most fun to play with )! Most people think that the knife is just bad, but, in fact it's better than most other melees. The knife does good damage to your enemies, the slash damages are comparable to a shovel,
the stab isn't a 1HK to the foot/hand/leg, it is a 1HK to the head and the body (Sometimes!) if you stab the enemy while you crouch, run or jump. Damage-wise it's just a nerfed Shovel,
speed-wise it's an improved shovel! Its slash is reeeaally fast, you can make two slashes to the head/body easily so you can kill the enemy instantly, the stab is really fast too. Both slash and stab are really accurate, especially the stab!
It's a easy thing to stab the head, and get a instant kill! The fast pull-out time is just amazing, additionally the knock-back time is really low!! And you can run extremely fast with it.

In my opinion this melee is just too underestimated, although half of the CF community uses it xD It's amazing if you start practicing with it and just play with your knife!

    + Fast slash
    + Fast stab
    + Fast pull-out time
    + Low knock-back time
    + Accurate stab and slash
+ You can run very fast with it
+ You don't have to pay to get it nor invest any time
    - Most of the times low damage
    - You can get beaten by an axer/etc. easily (because of the 1hit slash they have)

and it just makes fun to get kills with it.

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png
  • knifewcg2012.png
    2.4.2 Knife WCG
    damagestatspicknifwcgri.png

You could think that the WCG Knife is the exact same thing as the regular one, but it's not because of one reason : It does way more damage than the normal one, which is amazing. It is a 1HK stab to the Body/Chest/Arms and even through armor in the body part it still does 100 damage which is completely awesome.

All I can say, that people who love the knife, but are getting annoyed by the fact that the regular knife like always does only 90 damage, this is the greatest thing they can get. If they could make another reskin of this knife which is permanent available at some point, it would be just amazing.

It makes so much fun to kill people with the knife and this reskin makes it very easy to do so! I would really recommend getting this melee as long as it's still available, because it's just a better version of the knife, which is really great.

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    krisnormalxmas.png
    2.5.1 Kris & Variants
    damagestatspickris.png

    Use of the Kris:

The Kris, the most over-powered melee in the game.. Wait what? No.. The Kris is definitely NOT the most over-powered melee in the game, because of many things. Of course it has got many advantages, but I think it's just bad in many other aspects.
The Kris (how surprising) has got a very fast and wide-ranged slash, you can easily slash people down when they are close to you! Also it has got a fast pull-out time! Beside of these aspects, the Kris has no other positive features.
The stab is just bad, it's fast, okay, but it has a really small hit-range and the slash does only 88 damage through a bullet-proof helmet! Whatever, the slash is really inaccurate, which makes it hard to hit the head or a special art of the body.

    + Fast slash
    + Wide- ranged slash
    + Fast pull-out time
    - The slash isn't a 1HK through a bullet helmet
    - The stab is very small hit-ranged
    - The slash is really inaccurate

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    kukrinormalrd.png
    2.6.1 Kukri & Variants
    damagestatspickukriall.png
    Use of the Kukri:

First of all, the Kukri is an amazing melee. Both the stab and slash are wide-hitranged, the pullout time is fast, everything is fast. The only disadvantage is that it had a inaccurate slash which does additional to that only 88 damage through a Bullet-proof helmet, but the stab makes this melee to a very great one.
Well, there's nothing more to say really! You're not slow with it, it can save you in any situation, just a great melee.

    + Wide-ranged slash
    + Wide- ranged stab
    + Fast slash
    + Fast stab
    + Fast pull-out time
    - 88 damage through a bullet-proof helmet
    - Inaccurate slash

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    machetej.png
    2.7.1 Machete
    damagestatspicmachete.png
    Use of the Machete:

The Machete is just a bad melee. It's just not worth it, even if it would be GP I would think twice to get it, because as I said, it's a bad melee.
The slash is okay, The Pull-out time is slow, and the stab is even slower. It really takes ages to actually perform your stab. The only advantage this melee has that it confuses the enemy with its delay of the stab!
However, it's the most damage making melee in the game, it does very high damage, but it doesn't help the Machete to be one of the good melees in the game, sadly, because it looks really good.

+ Most-making damage melee in the game
    +- Slash speed
    - Slow Stab speed
    - Pull-out time is slow

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    nightmareblade.png
    2.8.1 Nightmareblade
    damagestatspicnmb.png
    Use of the Nightmareblade:

On the one side the Nightmareblade is a melee which really makes fun to play with and on the other side it is also a melee which is actually pretty good, means you can compete with good knifers with it.
The slash is pretty fast, which is really good, because it does two slashes in a row really fast, but then again, it does only 88 Damage through a bullet-proof helmet! The stab is comparable to the Machete, but still not the same, because the stab of the NMB is still faster. The pull-out time is fast, the knockback is quite long, but that's the thing that makes it fun to play with it!

All in all we can say that

+ fast two in a row coming slashes
    + 1 HK Stab
    + It's very rare
    + Fast pull-out time
    + (very good looking)
    - 88 Damage through Bullet-helmet
    - Slow stab

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

  • policebatton.png
    2.9.1 Police Batton
    damagestatspicpolicebat.png
    Use of the Police Baton:

The police batton is an amazing melee, it has got a very fast slash, you are literally able to spam slashes, like a chainsaw.. and it's quite accurate! The stab isn't that great, it has an annoying animation, so it makes it really hard to predict when it actually hits the enemy.
The pull-out time is fine, the weight of the melee is fine too. All in all, it's just a fantastic melee to have fun, but I wouldn't recommend making it to your main melee, because there are way better ones.

    + You can spam slashes
    + Accurate slash
    +- Annoying stab
    +- Pull-out time

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    shovelnormalrdhw.png
    2.10.1 Shovel & Variants
    damagestatspicshovel.png
    Use of the Shovel:

Well, this melee has been called "OP" for a very long time, you got called a "noob" for using it a very long time, until the Kukri replaced its job for that. The Shovel isn't really over-powered, there are by far many other melees which do a better job.
The only thing which is good at the shovel is its stab, which is really fast and wide-ranged, but that's it. Okay, the pull-out time is fast, but there is no other advantage you have with the shovel! The slash is slow and does low damage!
In general you can't really say more to the shovel, because the only thing you do with it is to spam the right-click and yea.. that's it.

    + Fast stab
    + Wide- ranged stab
    + Fast pull-out time
    - Slow slash
    - Low damage-making slash

    VideoButton_zps0175e0ce.png

    cooltext4.png

    wrench.png
    2.11.1 Wrench
    damagestatspicwrench.png
    Use of the Wrench:

The Wrench is comparable to the Axe, because it has the same accurate slash , but with dealing only 88 damage to the enemy through a bulletproof- helmet. The stab has got a wider hit-range than the axe, and does 100 damage at every part of the body.
There is nothing more to say really, it costs 60 Coupons which is incredible expensive in comparison to other melees, if you got useless coupons and like melees - definitely get it - otherwise, just buy an axe. They are the same thing in general.

    + Fast slash
    + Accurate slash
    + Wide-ranged stab
    - Slow pull-out time
    (-- Incredible expensive)

  • 3. First lessons

    • Before we go on with some tactics you should know that you won't be able to become good with any melee if you don't practice.
If you don't want to invest some time to become good, then don't expect any useful results. (Just saying.)

      spacebarra.png
    • The important thing which can be learned by practicing is to know about your range. An easy thing to know is that all melees except the Katana (which has a range of 3,5m) and the Warmonger Fists (which have a range of 2,75m) have a range of 3 meters.
The actual hit-range (also called hit-box) is different with every melee and you should try every melee out to know which melee has which hit-range.
So you could start practicing with something easy to use like the Kukri, then Axe, then the Knife. This information was provided by GodsGunman.

      spacebarra.png
    • Another thing (this is the thing why I love playing melee matches) is the prediction.
Predicting means that you know the next step of your opponent without see him actually doing his action.
That means if you know that your opponent is most likely going to slash you in the head, stab him before he does his action. This needs a lot of training, fights and experience. Predicting next step of your enemy is the actual thing what makes you "pro" - and will make you get kicked out of many games.

      spacebarra.png
    • Also some notes and infos to SnD knife rooms! Many of these rooms are filled with competitive players which just do 1 versus 1 fights (this means, only two players fight against each other). If you're new to them, they will most likely just kill you.
If you want to prevent this , you should just crouch. It means that you want to have peace with the players! If they accepted the peace, you can start doing a 1 versus 1 with one player. If you want to do that, you have to slash in direction to the player you want to fight with and start fighting.

      spacebarra.png
    • I know this is boring after some time and I hate it sometimes too, but this is the only possibility to get friends in the melee community. If you don't want to play competitive and just want to "gang" other people, I suggest you that you play TDM. You won't find any player who wants to do 1versus1 in a TDM, just get your kills and you will be fine.
  • 4. Knifing Techniques

There are two types of playstyles in every game - Defense and Offense. Making a mixture of these would be a perfect way of playing, but this is quite difficult to do. But we can show some options you have in melee matches you can use to take the win. Most of these techniques are made for knocking out one single person, but you have to take out one person each anyway, even if you have to face many enemies.
    4.1 Offense
The offensive playstyle can be very useful when you know that you're facing a enemy which is a newer player (a noob) and he has fear - in other words, he's playing defensive. Most people just run into people, but that's not what rushing really is. You have to find a good mixture between being agressive, but also being careful. While playing with a more offensive playstyle you are stressing your enemy, so he makes mistakes or can't concentrate.
4.1.1 Running in circles around the enemy
If your enemy runs away or only plays with a strict defensive style, try to hit him from the side. You just have to run in a circle, if you're close to him do a step backwards into the direction where your enemy is and attack him.

    cirrclerunning.png

You can vary this technique in many ways - just be creative. I have shown you the basic one, showing multiple variations won't make any sense. Just be creative!
    4.1.2 Let's dance!
In most competitive knife rooms, you will see people moving to left/right/backwards/forward really fast. This is really a good thing, because you are not an easy target for your enemy and you have time to prepare for the attack from your enemy so you can avoid getting hit!
    4.1.3 The jump
Jumping towards your enemy while preparing your right-click attack has two advantages : 1.) You are faster than running towards him and 2.) He gets a "shock moment", so you can easily attack him.

The only disadvantage this technique has is that it's extremely risky - if your enemy is fast enough to realize what you're doing so he can make a step to the side - you're pretty much dead.
    4.1.4 The rush
If you've practiced your timing, you can rush the whole team and just slash into the head of your enemies. This needs really hard practice and can be destroyed by laggers easily - be warned!
    4.2. Defense
Playing in a defensive style is most of the times pretty clever, because you just wait for your enemy to get bored and to attack you - so you can try to avoid his attack with the following technique. I only know one technique here so far, but this one is really useful.
    4.2.1 The Step-back
It's also quite easy : If you see an enemy attacking you / running towards you just do a step backwards, so you have enough time to slash / stab him in his face. Easy as that.
  • 5. Use of each melee in Ghost Mode / Techniques

This field will be empty for some time until we found someone who knows how to handle melees in Ghost mode (every melee.) and maybe has some techniques to offer.

    Thanks for your understanding.

  • 7. FAQ/Special Thanks

    FAQ:

    1. Why have you made this guide?

This question is quite easy to answer. I wanted to clear up the things with the melees, because everyone has generalized them. But this was not the main reason. The main reason was that I want to bring the knifing community back to life!
Ask here more questions please, about gameplay or w/e!

    Special Thanks to:

BlindNate: He helped me really in almost every aspect I asked him to do, let it be reading over my texts or helping me testing damages, or whatever. He was there most of the time for me, so he's also first. (the rest of the order here doesn't matter.) Thanks man! You're great! :)

XD*killer*XD: for being a testing person for testing the damages, also he was a good motivation to go further with my work.

[R]ush?: for helping me figuring out the damages for armor and basically also normal damages. Great help! :)

-[Veissman]-: basically the same as Rush. Thanks for that! (and for giving me motivation!)

DurDom.: Here you have your red "bold" Thanks xD Yea thanks for giving me footages for my upcomming videos and helping me testing the damages and for correcting my texts/ trying to help me otherwise. He put very much time into his help. Thanks! :) Additional to that you invest many time helping me with my videos (getting footage), so thanks for that! <3

aDream: Thanks for correcting my texts and also for giving me motivation! :) AND WASTING 10 COUPONS FOR ME!! <3

MisterMunzta: for giving me advices how to do my videos, how to properly record animations, in-game testing and also making me proud for doing this! <3

NahuiEgo: You helped me many times in-game for testing. Thanks bro! <3

Upex: Yea!! You helped me in so many ways!! In-game testing, buying me ZP melees to test with, buying WCG melees for me, buying armor for me, without you many things couldn't have been done! Be proud.. lol.

NattNatt: I hope you can even read this, but if you can, I'm happy. You wanted to help me with the golden Katana and Brass Knuckles.. thanks for that bro.

Rory: Your videos have been quite helpful for me, also I have taken some damage stats from you :p (Police Baton / Brass Knuckles)

Pedobear: You helped me in-game testing melees. :)

Simrock: for helping me with the Nightmareblade!

VATAV: for giving me good facts about melees and his experiences in Ghost Mode.

Seashore:Thank you man for those great images, like the banner or the video banner. You're leonardo da vinici*-*

Demonite.:Thanks for correcting me and for helping me to give damages for melees. Also he corrected mistakes (word spellings, etc.) which was really helpful! Thanks man!

If you aren't listed here, but have done something for me, please tell me immediately!
  • This is fantastic, I love all the images, they really compliment the guide! I think the layout of the descriptions should be fixed up a bit though, they don't look pretty like everything else.

Thanks man. What do you mean by "the layout of the descriptions" ? :o
  • Good job. Next time, prepare it so you post it all within a few seconds and then you don't have some random post in between.

Anyway, this is really nice. Great job! :D
