1. What Anti Virus program are you using?
Avast!
2. Have you added any xtrap or game files to an exception list?
No
3. Have you tried disabling the virus program during installation and running of the game?
Yes i tried to disable Avast! to start the game and it changes nothing, i see the Patcher, then comes Xtrap and HGWC and then nothing, everything close and the game never starts. The same thing happen with anti virus enabled.
Would be nice to have CF to work this zombie mode looks fun

Yes, and i Disable avast

Yes i tried to disable Avast! to start the game and it changes nothing, i see the Patcher, then comes Xtrap and the error message

Avast antivirus fix, follow steps
With reading the post I have concluded in my case, that Avast anti-virus deletes the Crossfire.exe and quarantines it it as a malware. Like the previous post states, turn off your anti virus, either delete the contents of your xtrap folder or download and copy over the xtrap files linked in this post. Open Avast interface(while Avast shields are disabled) and add an exception in your Avast File System Shield, and select the whole Crossfire folder, next and add an exception in the behavior shield and select all .exe in the Crossfire folder (have to add one at a time).
Lastly, you must go to your virus chest (located in the maintenance tab) and restore the crossfire.exe that was quarantined.
Now you are ready to restart Avast shields again.
Now launch crossfire, you should have no problems getting in now.
Hope this works for you all experiencing problems.
This fix will correct the Xtrap error and the crossfire.exe changed error so long as you follow all steps.
I was experiencing all the same issues as everyone else and have been up and playing for 1 hour now...:)
I can exit and re log in no problem. -

Well, I was finally able to play yesterday after you guys fixed that issue. Hopefully, I won't have any more issues with Xtrap

Best solution in my opinion: Switch to something else, Xtrap doesn't seem to work much as it is. I fear an update with Xtrap would send us all back into the hole. -

hi.. from yesterday i have been experience problems with the crossfire...
sometimes the game dont start.. when it starts, in about 3 or 4 minutes, it close sayin

today I have installed again winxp and do not have any antivirus yet...
only the tune up utilitys 2011
can anybody help me with this?

Failed to Connect to Server:W [2003] L[0]
HGW gets stuck at step 4 after a minute or so, Failed to Connect to Server:W [2003] L[0] that's what comes up. Was playing fine yesterday, site went down for maintenance tonight, no idea what's going on. X-trap/HGW is a mess, there's at least a hacker in every other room I join up in. The Anti-Hack patch lasted all of but 2 hours... would really like to see some improvements, and more in game GM's... -
Win 7 64bit: XTRAP is a nightmare
Hi guys,
I'm playing CrossFire on both a laptop with windows XP 32 bit and a desktop with windows 7 64 bit.
On the laptop I installed lots of crap while the desktop is brand new with just few things installed.
Despite that, on my laptop i NEVER get X-Trap to close CF client even when I switch from CF to another windows (like ventrilo or chrome). On my desktop is a pain in the BEEEEP: I have to close the Kaspersky antivirus, I have to close the GoogleCrashHandler process, the ItunesHelper process, the Java update scheduler process, all the processes to manage my Nvidia videocard and ventrilo as well.
The worst thing is that sometimes just closing some of them is enough, then all of a sudden X-Trap triggers and I have to close other of these processes....and sometimes even with all the possible processes closed it still triggers closing the client. But after few tries (and a lot of swearing!!!) it works again. o.O
All the time it allows me to load the client but it triggers when I join some game.
Sometimes I close Ventrilo, I start the client and join a new game, when the game is finished and I get back to windowed mode I start again ventrilo and everything is fine. Sometimes it just won't let me use ventrilo!!!
So again, since this happen only on my windows 7 64 bit computer, I'd suggest you to investigate on that environment cause I gotta tell you man, X-Trap is getting my playing CF impossible and frustrating!!!

As I said I closed the antivirus cause even if I added all the CF folder to the exclusion list, no way XTrap works.
And yes, ALL the EXE in CF folders are run as admin (and with windows XP SP3 compatibility, even tho I tried them without compatibility settings as well)

I always did. Added to the firewall exception list

Yes i disabled virus protection, spyware protection, system guards, and the fire wall.
I have played the fully updated version once, and now every time I want to play it tries to update, nothing happens then the X-trap and HGW pop up they dont do anything then it says File is changed: W[2007] L[2]
that's exactly the same problem I'm having..........

This is so werid i think this has to do with Xtrap because when i downloaded Metin 2 Seen crossfire doesnt work for me. Metin 2 has Xtrap and The same problem happeneds to me the same code was the the code of the one in Crossfire. So is has to be Xtrap that affecting crossfire/Metin2.

hello good afternoon, I've actually installed the game at least 4 times with antivirus off but over time he returns to the error have to uninstall the game and re-install with antivirus off but with the game on my antivirus antivirus avast and I hope to correct this error because it really boring and always uninstall the game and return to instalar.ja now wanted to take this opportunity to say that is completely impossible to play with so many hackers see this for sure and see the biggest problem I think today 80 % of players are hackers thanks and good afternooni installed xp sp2.after installing cf i tried to run the game but it says hgwc has encountered a problem and needs to close.so what should i do?i even uninstalled
d my anti but its still not working.help asap
