How did you "Get Good"?
Ok, so your wondering "what is this all about?" or "why is this post in competitive forum?".
I'm posting this in the competitive forum so I can get input from competitive players.
Also I don't want people posting if they aren't considered "Good" by the community.
So here we go.
Whenever I play anything competitive and do "bad" most people will say something like "your not good" or "your horrible" ect...
Sometimes they even go the extra mile and get on our (optimum's) ventrilo server and tell how "bad" we are there.
So now I get to my point.
How did you (or your team) get "good"?
Most people don't know about how a player grew into the player he/she is now.
I'd like you guys to post how you became the "good" player you are considered to be.
I hope this post doesn't get flamed or moved... Personally I think this is a good post to be in the competitive forum.

The fastest way to get good is to play in a team where players are better than you, so they can let you know/yell at you when you do stupid things. Ohhhh how I've been yelled at in my cf days!
I've never been yelled at, does that mean I'm just naturally skilled or...? -

i do all the yelling, that makes me the best.Ok, so your wondering "what is this all about?" or "why is this post in competitive forum?".

ive always been the best since i picked up cf. but to maintain it, especially last summer during WOGL season 1 i put in alot of time practicing my shot and practicing angles and peeking and watching player's tendencies and picking up flaws in other teams setups that you can exploit quickly.
It's all about the time you put in and putting it in on the right things. focus on your shot and making it better, don't just click and shoot however, actively focus on it and controlling it. what i like to do is at the beginning of every snd round is spray an entire clip of my clip trying to keep it as close together as possible and if i'm using my m4, i also practice 5 shot bursting another clip out keeping it as tight as possible as it is not an easy amount to burst always and it is EXTREMELY effective killing people with 1 burst is extremely efficient when you cant pull off that headshot.
also playing tdm and, however difficult with 200-400 ping players nonstop running/jumping/lagging around spraying tommyguns/m12s/kriss's, trying only aiming for headshots with 2-3 round bursts at every range, even point blank. this may prove difficult at first but you mustn't give up if you wish to improve, dont let your score get to you, it may suck now but it will pay off in time, if you keep practicing.
also your pc and accessories can be a MAJOR setback. make sure you're getting atleast 75 fps in a 5v5, getting a good mouse and mousepad, start working towards lower-sensitivities, even if they are tough to use at first, believe me, this was one of the biggest revelations ive ever had in competitive gaming. i was an unreal-tournament player when i 1st started out in 2004, this is a fast paced fps game where you need high-sensitivity, switching to css in 2006 it didn't translate very well although i made it work, finally lowering my sensitivity drastically and getting a good mouse and a big mousepad greatly improved my skill and was the final touch to increasing the potential of my aim. take this point very seriously, lower sensitivities give MUCH more control so get used to it, even if it takes 2-4 weeks.
practice, practice, practice. play with a team that is much better than you and learn from them. alot of teams in this game are extremely stupid, the game is easy however so it isnt hard to have a half decent shot online. unless you know the player/team is top-notch, take everything they say with a grain of salt as learning and practicing the wrong things can be VERY detrimental, and alot of lesser players like to think they know what they're talking about because they're better than more lesser players.
not sure if i missed out on anything too important but, get out and frag, put in the time, set a goal for the # of kills you want to achieve a day, id say start with 500-600 and if you're achieving that quickly enough increase anywhere up to 1000. hit this goal no matter what, always achieve it and you'll be very successful.

Hmm, I disagree with Ozz on the part about the low mouse sensitivity. I've heard its a lot better to play with lower sensitivity, but if you've got a set up like mine I think how I play is a lot better tbh. I played with a touchpad for over 2 years, and I still play with a 400dpi mouse with no mousepad and well, my aim sucks ballz. I run a high sensitivity and I ak, so doing bursts and spraying accurately is quite hard. I've tried to run the lower sensitivities but then my reactions are like......... beyond shiit and I can't hit get headshots long range [got like a small laptop so I can't see someones head from A plat to Barricades on BW]. I think angles and getting to know the spray of your gun is pretty crucial. My aim is well....pathethic, since I don't play much anymore and the combination of my fps, ping and rig isnt very good so I really rely on spraying my ak/k2 and just getting good angles. I'd recommend watching the old casts and seeing how the top teams play.
But most importantly, good aim is a massive weapon of course - but if you play smart you can still get good scores. I think putting sound on 100 is extremely useful, but also to pick up on other tendencies the other team plays. Watching the old casts is especially important here, like some teams just don't change their default in a match. It gets so repetitive and on either T or CT you can really force the other team to play how you want them.
But agreeing with Ozz, most teams are dumb as f*ck. Rotations are especially crap imo. So easy to work fakes, or to pick teams off as they rotate from positions - or rotating back to positions. -

what a terrible player, kid probably uses razer gear -
How i got good?
Played CF since open beta (i started when combat axe just came out)
And i play a lot of CS. Since both games are related, you get better at both of them.
Try and stick to one type of game. For example, if you play some Crossfire then start playing COD. Your going to spray a lot....
