At least 90 Iraqi teenagers with "emo" appearances have been stoned to death by religious extremists in Baghdad in the past month after an inflammatory interior ministry statement dubbed it "devil worshiping", activists said.
Iraq's Moral Police released a chilling statement on the interior ministry's website condemning the "emo phenomenon" among Iraqi youth, disturbingly declaring its intent to "eliminate" the trend.

Thought for Today.Duke wrote:J4Y_KP wrote:The War for the freedom of humanity has been going on for a lot longer than the Internet, but the web is the latest battlefield. Information is the gunpowder and Anonymous are the soldiers.
World governments have the Army, Air Force and Navy and Le Resistance now has an army of it's own. A guerilla insurgency that uses traditional hit-and-run tactics. However the enemy is far more sophisticated and has far more resources. They also have home-field advantage and when fighting a guerilla war standard military tactics show that home-field advantage is crucial. It's a good thing that this isn't a standard military war then.
However, for a war in the cybersphere Anonymous are pretty lame (so far). A web comic summed it up perfectly: (http://xkcd.com/932/). Before Stratfor all Anonymous did was take down the posters of the target organisations and access personal information. If you want a lesson on how to operate a cyberwar look at how the Chinese are infiltrating western governments and global corporations.
Now don't get me wrong, what Anonymous is doing is important and I don't mean to belittle their efforts. Hacking web servers, email servers etc is not a trivial affair. But these are just the marketing tools and personal communications of individuals. IIS servers and Exchange servers are usually part of a AD domain. How about getting the Enterprise DC and then all the databases and SAN data stores? Wouldn't that be more useful than taking a website down. Both are illegal and the punishment for doing either is going to be the same (I'm asuming).
If you attack the website of a corporation they will have it back up in a day or so. If you liberate the companies IP from their database then you do lasting damage to it. Not that I am advocating either method.
Ultimately though it's all moot as the battle is a losing one (so far). Ask the average Joe Public about Anonymous then most of them will stare blankly. A few will vaguely remember something buried deep in their memory banks sandwiched between the words 'criminal' and 'terrorist'. The minute majority who actually know about this are so far in the minority that they are inconsequential. The same goes for Occupy and any other movement of any significance to mankind. If anything gains enough momentum then it is crushed using another standard military tactic: divide-and-conquer. If that doesn't work then there is always co-opting the message and diluting it into something meaningless.
"Here we are with the greatest tool mankind has invented in recent history and the masses use it to refresh their status updates and share pictures of cats. This is the equivalent of cavemen discovering fire and using it to breathe smoke instead of using it as a source of light and heat. We are left to remember why?
The primary aim of modern warfare is to use up the products of the machine without raising the general standard of living. Ever since the end of the nineteenth century, the problem of what to do with the surplus of consumption goods has been latent in industrial society. At present, when few human beings even have enough to eat, this problem is obviously not urgent, and it might not have become so, even if no artificial processes of destruction had been at work. The world of today is a bare, hungry, dilapidated place compared with the world that existed before 1914, and still more so if compared with the imaginary future to which the people of that period looked forward. In the early twentieth century, the vision of a future society unbelievably rich, leisured, orderly, and efficient - a glittering antiseptic world of glass and steel and snow-white concrete - was part of the consciousness of nearly every literate person. Science and technology were developing at a prodigious speed, and it seemed natural to assume that they would go on developing. This failed to happen, partly because of the impoverishment caused by a long series of wars and revolutions, partly because scientific and technical progress depended on the empirical habit of thought, which could not survive in a strictly regimented society. As a whole the world is more primitive today than it was fifty years ago. Certain backward areas have advanced, and various devices, always in some way connected with warfare and police espionage, have been developed, but experiment and invention have largely stopped, and the ravages of the atomic war of the nineteen-fifties have never been fully repaired. Nevertheless the dangers inherent in the machine are still there.

Alex described the video on his Vimeo post:
“Timelapse videos depicting the stars from low earth orbit, as viewed from the International Space Station. Images edited using Adobe Lightroom with some cropping to make the stars the focal point of each shot, and with manipulation of the contrast to bring out the stars a bit more.”
Alex suggests, “The video plays best if you let it load a bit first.” (And I’d also advise full-screen!)
According to ISS astronaut Ron Garan, who also shared Alex’s compilation on his Google+ page, most of the images were taken by NASA astronaut Ron Pettit, currently on Expedition 30 aboard the ISS.

Anonymous is an Internet sub-culture which began on the seedy message board of 4chan about eight years ago. It has no leadership, fixed ideology or official membership. It has become a cluster of activists, hackers, geeks, advocates and pranksters who all unite, communicate and associate in a form of anonymity. At times they have performed hacks that are a means of protest with a greater purpose. In other cases they seem to be shameless practical jokes, that Anons say is just for the “lulz”. 'The Deeper Crime: the Invasion Itself'
"...Any decent American or world citizen should be outraged at recent terrible actions by U.S. military forces in Afghanistan. I am referring to the release of a YouTube video showing U.S. Marines urinating on dead Afghans last January, to the burning of Muslim Korans by American troops at Bagram Air Force Base last February, and above all to the wanton massacre of 16 Afghan civilians (including 9 children and 3 women) in Kandahar Province last week – this by an unnamed butcher (or butchers) who has (or have) already been flown to Kuwait.[1] There are no words to adequately capture the stupidity and above all the horror of this sort of conduct by U.S. military personnel. The rage of the Afghan people that has followed in the wake of these incidents is more than understandable.
At the same time, however, we should be equally outraged by the way the dominant U.S. political and media culture frames these terrible events as isolated “mistakes” within a broader legitimate military campaign. We also should be concerned about how the dominant-frame discussion focuses on the terrible behavior of individual troops, diverting focus away from ultimate perpetrators in Washington. Notice that Afghanis have not simply or merely called for apologies and justice (including a murder trial and punishment under their own customs and laws) against front-line criminals in the latest incidents.
