Crossfire crashing

I have a problem with the game. I can load crossfire and all. I can get into the lobby and choose a game to join, but every time i join a game it closes on me. The screen shrinks and remains black. When i click on it it tells me not responding and if i click a couple more times it just closes. It never even opens even if i wait. so what could be causing this problem.
