Solution to FPS sudden drop/freeze with modern graphic cards and cpu
Hey guys,
Thought I would share here since this problem has been in Crossfire for a while. Im using a GTX 1080 with Ryzen 2700x, get 200+ fps obviously but it's really annoying when the game just randomly freezes after a while (FPS goes from 200 to maybe 100). This makes the game literally unplayable.
I won't guarantee this is a fix for everyone but hope it can help.
Note : For NVIDIA card users only
SOLUTION:
1. Simply go to NVIDIA control panel (right click on desktop).
2. Go to Manage 3D settings
3. Select Program Settings tab
4. Add Crossfire.exe into the list.
5. Scroll down until you see Threaded optimization, the default setting should be auto/global (which ultilize multiple cores from the CPU), set it to OFF.
Click apply and the fps drop or stuttering should be gone
Crossfire is built using a very old engine that only use like 1 core of CPU to calculate basically everything. With modern CPUs that have 4-8 cores, multi-thread screws up the calculation (old engine).
Have fun and let me know if it helps
