Extra swag points.
Nah I think they do it just for fun. Mostly younger people think its fun and looks cool.
I think just a clean name with out allot of []**-.. looks better. But hey im not allowed to say anything since my IGN is *---Eagle-
But in my defence I was like 13 when I made that in 2011 -

Yeah, I just like a clean and simple easy to remember name.
Like my current one: DeetyD I don't know why but it has a good ring to it. -
This has puzzled me for quit some time...
Why do tons of people have names like this: -[N]-itro[x
It's just strange to me...
As I have no clue why in CF so many people have - and [ in their name, because on other games you never see stuff like that.
But on some other games you see different characters then the ones in crossfire -
It is just personal preference. You might like names without periods or symbols and they might like to mix it up. Personally I love it. I would want the name shown below but due to the character limitation it is not possible yet.

OT: There are so many accounts that most of igns are unavailable so they add extra symbols
The most stupid symbol though was the ?
I laugh so much when i see wannabes with names like iProAWM? or iDaPro? etc

I love seeing original usernames.
Lots o' peeps are surprised to see a single character name like mine, makes it OG as hell. Nice to see classic ones too....
Simple is beautiful. -
In my clan Wreckless, having [WLS] in your IGN declares that you're a dedicated, committed member of the team or one of the main leaders like me.
You all pretty much know me as: [WLS]Dr.Shy
My original IGN had to be shortened cause it couldn't fit
but oh well.
Anyone can have brackets in their name if they so choose to or please. It's their business and that's all there is to it. -

hahaha
btw i added these ][ so some people can't whisper me,i mean they will have to look at my IGN again and it will take them some time to whisper me,mostly for spammers/scammers etc..btw i'm thinking of removing these square brackets. -

As for the mentality of why people use certain symbols, we could never know for sure haha.
I make use of these different characters. It is a way to customize the game name. Few games make room for other characters like the CF opened. Unfortunately we still can not use the > ? <. -
It's not funny, Egy noob #999999991Becuse is funny

Previously we were able to use the > ? < when we had the item mall you would copy and paste a symbol and in game it would appear as name? or n?a?m?e? as desired by the person choosing to put a > ? < -
CrossFire doesn't have a strict alphanumeric policy implemented and so you can use special characters - which in my opinion break the game. If you're in a room and you want to speak to somebody or even send him a whisper, it would be much easier to do /w Andre than /w [A]Ndr3*nOp41n. But that's just my two cents.
Answering the question, well because they can. -
I think those kind of usernames are funny.
Especially the ones with question marks as if their username is a question.. like "Toast?".
I appreciate those kinds of usernames.
I'm proud of mine since it's an original. Can't say the same about my forum name though.. haha

Agreed. Most other games have stricter ign policies while CrossFire is more open. Reasoning behind why a person does it is pretty much unknown but personally I can take a few guesses.- To match with friends.
- To match clan mates.
- Looks cool.
- Adds 1 damage to bullets. Kappa
