Ping Test to Toronto, that is what your ping should be for gaming
I've noticed that ever since I started playing my ping keeps seeing random increments of ping spikes. (Many of you have)
The "Copy/Paste" tells us to ping test Toronto. They are sure it's not the game and it's you or your PC.
When I first started gaming, I was an average 63 ping. A few months later I saw an increase up to 70. A few months later I saw an increase up to 79. A few months later I saw an increase up to 85. A few months later I saw an increase up to 93 average. Ever since this last patch, now, I'm running from 130-200.
I just got out of a game where I was running 200, I ping tested Toronto Canada and my ping is 63.
I have even upgraded my PC in the middle of this ping increase process. The ping increase is not on my end, even though the game says it is.
My guess is they are using Lag Compensation (pulls speed from high end players and gives it to high ping players) or they are raising the ping of people that fail to pay money to play in a hacker environment.......Either way, it's the game....not me.

Most spikes I encounter is because I have three systems trying to watch Netflix on 4k UHD with internet speeds of 5Mb/s (Slow... Very slow internet)
My friend told me about using VPNs, and they actually help. You should and use them, although Z8 or your ISP wouldn't like it. -
Well, some of us do get accurate, comparable readings from the two.
My point being that while I certainly believe you're having trouble, an argument can be made that the servers are working fine, depending on who you ask.
Maybe it's less about assigning blame and more about figuring out why you don't get the ping you should get.
My bet would be a poor router configuration, since it's allowing port 80 traffic fine but not game traffic.

Not quite how internet routing works, but I do love the conspiracy. The tin foil is strong with you young jedi. -
I have a ping of 10 on every game out there. and just a ping of 78 to the USA. In CF I have 30-40...Yeah it must be my router lmao.Well, some of us do get accurate, comparable readings from the two.

You're not making sense.EisTeeLem0n wrote: »I have a ping of 10 on every game out there. and just a ping of 78 to the USA. In CF I have 30-40...Yeah it must be my router lmao.
Your ping to "USA" is 78, but you get a 10 ping in every other game (what?), and half your "USA-ping" in CF, and that's.. bad?
I'd be delighted if I got a 60 ping to CF Toronto servers even though I get 130 to regular Toronto servers, but that's not how the Internet works for (most, apparently) people. -
When I first started playing this game (Dec 08) I had a stunning 49 ping. Since then I've upgraded my computer and internet and boast a 78 ping that isn't very stable (78 is a good day now). The folks at Z8 Games still try to convince the community that they "haven't moved the server", which is complete BS. My computer is still very good and although my internet does suck, I can still play other online games with no lag (steady ping), CF is the only one that spikes consistently.
All I can say is that the CF servers are garbage and instead of updating this game with pointless guns they could take a month to actually upgrade their servers. It's clearly overdue.
Edit: My old place which is 45 min from where I live now gets an incredible 110 ping. Great ping for a Canadian player eh. -

You live in Canada? Why is that ping like that???? My ping should be 27-30 however it spikes randomly and I know its CF because non of my other clients would spike example Ventrilo. Also ping test would spike if it was my internet as well however cf spikes it to 40-70 -

I mean my ping to european servers are 10-20. To the NA server of games I have a ping of 78. In cf my ping to UK is 30-40 and to NA server it'S 120-140. -

Not your router, routing. Valiant effort though. Your misplaced animosity is the best lubricant. When I first started playing this game (Dec 08) I had a stunning 49 ping. Depending on your province/city, that is probably a normal ping. Just being from canada doesn't automatically make you ping 5.
Also afaik upgrading the servers won't lower your ping, unless they are at max bandwidth and have choke/packet loss. -

The servers you ping 78 to are probably NYC or WDC servers, not Toronto canada.
Sorry, I don't know how geography is taught in europe; but North America is pretty vast. -
I think it has to deal with your router or possibly your internet provider. Not all internet providers stay the same over the months and years and may have communication problems at times so you can't blame the game even tho the only possible thing that could change in the game would have to be fps since there is growing number of content in the game. As for routers.. No one's router stays new forever and could give slight problems over time. ._. I had recently changed internet providers recently. I live in the Caribbean an Island called Barbados. My main source of internet back then was a provider called Cable and Wireless. My ping then use to be 120 the most the less being 100. Now my internet provider is one named Columbus Communications. My ping would be 140+ but now it has gone down to 93. [All ping results are in-game results.] But why worry so much about ping. If you have crappy fps in the end either way like i do 10 - 35 most then you are screwed [even though most of the time I can play fine with my fps], but anyway I believe you should call your internet provider and ask a question unless you are connected wireless to a hotspot then that could be a problem. If you have router make sure it wasn't damage or something. Might want to make sure inbound and outbound traffic are running okay, and try maybe checking your computer or laptop for viruses.

Not much of a difference to any server there. I guess you americans just have bad connections. :P -

I blame all the 200+ ping laggers and their hacks clogging the bandwidth for the NA servers. I have a big difference in ping based on time of day; 6PM-1AM I get 49-58 ping (and far fewer hackers), 7AM-3PM I have 80-100 ping. I live in UST -5 time, those times in Egypt UST +2 are 1AM-8AM and 2PM-10PM.

Most of the responses to this are an absolute joke..
It's not my router, I didn't change any router settings so how could me not configuring my router change my ping in THIS GAME ONLY.
Also, why is that it hits so many people on the same day. You will see 30-40 people in the same week say that for a week straight their ping has been up the exact same amount.
IT'S NOT ON THE PLAYERS END. It's time to swallow that bitter little pill......
Any SERIOUS responses on why the game is increasing ping on certain people? (possibly location based)
And to clarify, I'm not talking about ping spikes. It use to be a consistent 73. Two brand new routers, more Ram and a higher end graphics card later, I'm running a consistent 130 ping right now. And no, the ping increase did not happen when I upgraded anything. It happened on random occasions. -
Not quite how internet routing works, but I do love the conspiracy. The tin foil is strong with you young jedi.
Lag compensation is a program openly used by many FPS games........><.........
It's not a "tin foil" issue. If I wanted a tin foil issue I would say, "The game is increasing ping on people who don't spend money for ZP".. THAT would be a tin foil topic. -

5Mb/s = Slow ? WTF is this ?! I wait till it's 1AM so i can watch a youtube video of a 240bp Quality Video and yet buffering most of the time.i live next to toronto and get 9-12 ping some lag spikes and goes up to 100 briefly then back down.
Your Lag Spikes Are Up To 100 , My normal ping is 90. -

You didn't necessarily change anything, CF could have.
As for this game only, I'm on thin ice but I THINK different games use different ports. -

Even if z8 doesn't change anything; the carriers in between can change where the traffic goes, thus changing the ping.
Like hitting detour on a gps/nav system. The start and end points are the same, but a different route is taken. Hence where data routing comes from. -

Data collection to actually find a common denominator on these things are a pain, complaints are sporadic and mostly words about how awful it is. -

Lag compensation uses interpolation calculations to estimate where someone was at a certain time. This is done by the game engine. Lag compensation isn't something that sucks ping from people and gives it to others. You simply don't understand what you are talking about once again.
Please stick to the thread to where you said you could 1v5 the WCG teams, if they didn't bunny hop. -

So the game engine isn't a program. Brainy stuff right there......The game engine is full of programs, that's basically what it is a lengthy list of programs.
Did I say I could 1v5 WCG teams? Perhaps you could show me the link.

So you think carriers control the internet? AWESOME.
Show that link kiddo. -
Tonight, 215-230 ping. All night. I'm a low ping player and this is the ping. There is a reason the servers aren't full anymore. I'm only trying to help the game by making this post.
I come from high end gaming but I believe CrossFire can be the best FPS game out. I don't think the owners know the potential of the game.
If they invest enough money to make it run correctly, they will get profits out of this world. Otherwise, why would so many people spend time in a forum mad about hackers? They love the game, but they hate the lack of attention to the issues.
Crossfire has amazing potential. Invest in fixing bugs, exploits and issues and you will see amazing profits. But today, we see high rank accounts being sold on the black market to hackers because the high rank are sick of trying hard against an impossible to beat enemy.
230 ping on a 67ish ping connection against hackers? You think I'm going to invest in you? TALK ABOUT A JOKE. I'm a SERIOUS gamer. Not someone who has to Pay2Win. Fix the game and the serious gamers will invest. Stop listening to the hackers and making the game a hacker paradise. -
If you go to to your crossfire install folder, you will find a file called version.ini; open this to find the IP to the z8 servers.
Next go to run, and type in cmd. There type tracert [ip address here]. Press enter. This will show you how the data travels to toronto and which carriers it goes on.
For me I spend alot of time on level3 communications network. I go St. Louis -> Dallas -> Washington DC -> New York -> Toronto.
Also thank you for calling yourself a high level gamer. Every time you refer to yourself as a professional I can't help but breaking out in laughter.
