Crossfire + USB Hardrive

I have a little 75Gb USB Hardrive, I wish to put CF on it and have a blast on the University computers as they have some amazing specs (more than anything also to see what an amazing connection I get).

So far I’ve put CF on, literally copied n pasted all the directory files, however when trying to start CF, the C4_GearBOX (or whatever the name is) screen works fine, but then when I click "Start Game", I get an error:

"Failed to download version .ini."

Do i need to download CF onto it first? Then install it? Rather than just transferring the files?

Remembering I have limited admin rights to these computers, what would one recommend to me?
