Failed To Download "version.ini."

I was playing Crossfire until my internet cut out. Usually that happens, so I just wait for it to turn on and go right back to playing. I did this, and when I tried to open my crossfire launcher, it came up as an error. So one of my clan mates told me to try letting things through my Firewall from Crossfire, so I did. How it was blocked after my internet cut in the first place, I will never know, but anyway, everything from Crossfire, I let through my Firewall, tried opening my launcher, and it worked! However, after I clicked start, an error came up saying Failed to Download "version.ini." I've tried everything, I need help please.

I have the exact same issue!but how do you let files of crossfire through firewall?

ok I figured out how to allow the programs through firewall, and it works! but then it says x-trap unstable?!can't get in game

Okay, so you let everything having to do with CF through your firewall and got past the patcher?

I just played like an hour ago , yes you just "allow" everything related to cf through firewall and it should work.but right now there is a maintenance I think

I opened patchercf as admin still getting the error. i tryed to manualy copy and paste this AND ACCESS DENNY WHO IS IN CHARGE OF CF LOL!!!

I go to Cross Fire install directory - look for version.ini - have 0 bytes and that file was empty
1. i try start selfupdafe_cf.exe (nothing happend)
2. i try start patcher_cf.exe - and game start normally

After that i see version.ini file also change and have this content:

Hope will work same way for you
If not, you can manually edit version.ini file and copy/paste those line up, save and start CF
