This error normally occurs if your anti-virus-software blocks some game content while downloading or installing...
Common solution is:
- Uninstall the game completely
- DISABLE your antivirus' realtime protection
- Redownload the game
- Install the game
- Add the entire crossfire folder to your antivirus exceptions
- Re-enable realtime protection
good luck -

I tried this as well and it didn't work. I uninstalled my antivirus uninstalled the game, downloaded the game, reinstalled it and it still wont work. -
Hi, this is a very common error after downloading an update or a patch. I don't know what's causing it but the solution is very simple and it doesn't require re installing the game. just follow the steps and hopefully you'll get it fixed!
1. Turn off your Antivirus (if enabled)
2. Open your Crossfire directory (eg. C:\Program Files\Crossfire)
3. Find "version.ini" and open it
4. Make sure "LatestVersion" is set to 1113, "MinimalVersion" is set to 1110 and "OwnVersion" is set to 5
5. Save the changes
6. Right Click on Version.ini / Properties and make it Read-Only [IMPORTANT STEP]
7. Run "patcher_cf"
Good Luck! -

[VERSION] LatestVersion = 1113 MinimalVersion= 1100 OwnVersion = 5 [DOWNLOAD] server1 = http://cfpatch.z8games.com/download/ [SERVER] COUNT = 1 IP1 =74.200.6.133 PORT1 =13008 [HGW] PORT=16666 SERVER1=74.200.6.161 SERVER2=74.200.6.163 POD1=50 POD2=50
Does your version file have the same contents?
Also, try creating your own version.ini using the code above
1. Open Notepad
2. Copy-Paste
3. Save As "version.ini"
===========
EDIT: There are two version files, "version.ini" and "version" Check the second file as well.[VERSION] LatestVersion = 1136 MinimalVersion= 1120 OwnVersion = 6 [DOWNLOAD] server1 = http://cfpatch.z8games.com/download/ [SERVER] COUNT = 1 IP1 =67.210.208.133 PORT1 =13008 [HGW] PORT=16666 SERVER1=67.210.208.161 SERVER2=67.210.208.163 POD1=50 POD2=50
If non of the methods above works, you might need a new .exe file. I can easily upload both "crossfire.exe" and "patcher_cf.exe" to DropBox but I'm currently unsure whether it's against the rules or not.
