Recommend laptop/computer specs for CF!
Hi there guys. I left Crossfire about 12-14 months ago as my Dad put parental controls onto our home computer, and therefore I had to ask him permission to play. I had A level exams this year so having permission granted was on a rare occasion. I've finished my exams now and I hope to buy a new laptop. It'll be a Sony Vaio E Series. 15.6'' screen, i5 processer, 6GB of RAM and it'll have an AMD Radeon Graphics Card with 1GB of video storage. Do you reckon this laptop will run Crossfire on its highest settings comfortably? Also thinking of getting a Cyborg Rat 5 gaming mouse. Opinions on both the laptop and the mouse will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any respons, inistar.

I recommend the Rat 3 instead of the Rat 5, as smaller is better.
Sony doesn't make the best laptops or desktops by the way. My friend bought a Sony laptop for 1800 bucks but he had to ship from overseas to me to get fixed by the store he bought it from not long ago.
I recommand a few alternatives:
1. Sager
Sager makes great gaming laptops. They are a special brand, very good quality.
2. Asus
Asus is the best brand name laptop for the features per price.
3. Alienware.
Fancy backlits. Fast. -
The Rat 5 has more customisable features such as the palm rest, compared to the Rat 3 which doesn't allow for the palm rest to be adjusted. Also, the weight of the Rat 5 can be adjusted and the Rat 3's weight cannot. The Rat 5 is only £10 or roughly $15 more expensive so I think that with those features, the extra cost is minimal.
With regards to the laptop, the specs listed are more than capable of running CF smoothly I just wanted extra opinions. I'm only paying like $700 for this so I think I'm getting a good deal. I just can't wait to get playing again, I've missed it loads and I'm looking forward to a summer of competitive Crossfire! -
I'll toss my 2¢ in you may find it helpful...anyways I would stay away from the sony laptops period. I am running CF on an Acer 17.3" quad-core, 8gb of ram (came with 4 I added 4 more), and a Radeon 6520G with 512mb of dedicated video memory, and I never go below a 100fps in any mode/map. I picked this beauty up from wal-mart for $500 plus tax and it has been worth every penny for my business needs, as well as my gaming needs.

Ok, your ideal laptop is great for cf, like you said all you need is a good processor and a good graphics card. But just to tell you, I understand lack of mobility but desktops are Ideally better for playing games, (and doing anything else about the same) so if you have a desk with space or something a desktop can sit on (if you don't then you should try to make room, and if you cant I understand) then you should do that, because in the futer you can easily take out you graphics card and upgrade your processor and your graphics card. I would recommend finding a desktop with a good processor for cheap (which I have found a lot of) which is around $400 and up. Then just by a good graphics card of your choice $80 to $150, so your great desktop is around 500-600 bucks. In three years when you buy a new game that is glitchy on your computer go and buy a new graphics card or whatever instead of a new 600-1000 dollar computer. Hope this at least expanded your knowledge of computers, I not, sorry.

Thanks, yeah I was considering a desktop. Although, I live in the UK and I'll be heading to Uni soon so I need the portability of a laptop. I was just going to buy an external monitor and connect it up via hdmi. A desktop would be ideal, as like you said the parts are replaceable and it'll work out cheaper in the long term, however I have only recently got a job so it'll be a while until I have funds for both a laptop and a desktop. I'll keep what you said in mind though, thanks!

Sony computers never impressed anyone. TVs, Walkmans, yes, but not computers.
Their design and quality are questionable. Buy Sony laptop at your own risk.
My friend bought the top of their line laptop and he got a lemon.
Asus is the best, Acer is good too.
Go to youtube to find some reviews.
As for First Person Shooter mouse, you want something light and small. Unless you plan to play MMORPG games, you dont need any features really.
Kinzu, Xornet are good. Persoanlly I would get a Rat3 over bigger mice. -

Pretty much all you need for CF is this:
1. Run of the mill graphics card.
2. 2 GB of Ram (more if possible)
3. A middle of the road CPU.
I'm running a 5+ year old lappy and with the exception of my 30fps, it's been working rather fine for me. -

1. True
2. 4GB is preferred actually. 2GB isn't really enough, you'll get a choppy FPS
3. True, but obviously a better CPU will give you better performance -

Yea I'm not arguing that a better CPU or more RAM will help but it's not impossible to play with what I got. Although it is frustrating going down to 12 fps in the middle of a gun fight...
I wasn't too sure about the ram though. I used to play with 1GB and that was terrible. I play with 2 now and it's the max for my poor little ol lappy so I have to save up and get a better one.
