You guys forgot about all our farmers. They can get 10k - 50k kills in a day that will make up for the regular players.

"Frag" is another way to say "Kill" in FPS games.
It's a throwback to the old school arena shooters like Quake and Unreal (You're probably too young to know much about them, seeing as they're mostly from the 90's and early 2000's) where players would explode, or fragment, into bloody bits and pieces called gibs if they take a lot of sudden damage (typically from an explosion) when already near death.

The point of ribbons is for a challenge. Saidin wouldn't give anything that easily. They looked at statistics and made something challenging but still realistic.

We have to do more than 1M kills per hour to get to 100M in 4 days, so we're actually behind schedule.
