A metal discussion: Metallica
I wanted to make this thread to hear peoples opinions on Metallica.
Reason being that Metallica is a very popular band, with very mixed opinions on them.
Your thoughts on:
-Their Music:
-Their "selling out":
-The band members as people
-Metallica vs. Megadeth:
-Their Music: I like their music, as overrated people say they are, that doesn't make it bad. The only reason they got to where they are is their good music. I really like most of their first 4 albums. My favorite song being The Four Horsemen from Kill 'em All.
-Their "selling out" and onward: I don't like how their music changed, not as heavy as it used to be, BUT, If you look at all the mainstream music nowadays, they aren't so bad in that aspect.
-The band members as people: I don't really have an opinion on this, haven't seen them be "themselves"
-Metallica vs. Megadeth: I think Metallica would probably win, but Megadeth is more consistent.

Metallica is indeed a very marvelous band, their music will be memorized through many generations, their riffs/lyrics and their charisma to. although they're not as active as before, but yet I'm proud to say "Metallica is the best heavy metal band I had ever listened to".
Megadeth in my opinion is more extreme in their music, I like them as well, but not as much as i like Metallica.
Both bands are awesome, and I wish I can see one of them at a live concert \m/ -

Actually, they had a Big Four Concert in my city last year, didn't get to go tho
It would of been f'in awesome.
I don't think Metallica is the top Heavy, but they could've been. -
Metallica is awesome. My favorite album, "...And Justice For All". My favorite song on that album, "To live is to Die". On a personal level the bands sound has definitely changed from time to time, especially after Cliff Burton's tragic death. But still to this day do they fill sold out concert arenas.

I find it sad that all the metal music is turning into this gay screamo sh1t, The newer stuff that is. I really only have like 5 bands on my ipod. Metallica, megadeath, iron maiden, disturbed, foo fighters,
Not a big fan of anything else.
EDIT, And some slayer -

I understand. They call it hardcore but it's just a bunch of pus*ies screaming into the mike. Slayer is one of those bands that remain hardcore no matter what. I like your list of bands as well. Keep listening to good music my friend. -

What? No Black Sabbath? No Dio? No Judas Priest? Anthrax? Led Zeppelin? No Deep Purple?
Those are some great older metal bands. -

All I hear is screaming that can barely be understood.
That's what I hate about new metal, it's all basically screaming.
The music itself still kicks ass, just the lyrical and vocal side has gone down. -
Metallica sells out (every concert) as quoted by Jason Newsted. I've always liked their music, always liked James' lyrics. I won't say too much about St. Anger... was poorly produced, poorly mixed. ...And Justice For All is probably one of the most influental thrash metal albums of all time. That album was also poorly produced and TERRIBLY mixed. Lars' drums are way too loud and the only thing tuned to sound remotely good out of his drums were the bass drums. Bass guitar is almost non-existent on that album. Still an amazing abum. Individually, they're all pretty much badasses. I hate the fact Jason left and was replaced by Robert, I honestly think Jason was a much better bassist and was more creative than Robert. Kirk, easily one of the best guitarists and definitely one of the most influental guitarists out there.
Just think they were started out by Lars placing an ad in a local newspaper, thus him meeting James.
Metallica vs. Megadeth I think there's no competition. I do like a little Megadeth, Dave Mustaine, Nick Menza, Jimmy DeGrasso are also basicaly all badasses, but all in all I think Metallica flat out destroys Megadeth. -

they indeed are a very good band but I think they made fools out of themselves back in the days when napster was around. they were so busy attacking their own fanbase, while their overall quality got kind of lost. st.anger is a great example. while bands like NIN or radiohead adapted to the new situation, metallica, one of the richest bands of all time, acted like little butthurt pus$ies.

HAHAHAHAHAHA
Ha.
That's a good one.
thanks, the truth can be hard to swallow but it's better to face it head on than to ignore it.
allow me to continue.
metallica only sells tickets because of their name. not because of their music. they got their name because of that era of music was weak and empty. there was simply no competition allowing metallica to come in and make 'heavy' music (even though by todays standards, is rather weak) basically, if you have nothing good to listen to, you might as well listen to something.
metallica would not survive in this era. too generic, too much competition. they would be flipping burgers. currently to this day, they only have 1 good song. (enter sandman) they are considered by all intelligent music anylists to be a 1 hit wonder. the songs just all sound the same. his voice is just so boring and dull.
talent wise, they're okay. good drummer, decent guitars/base. below average singer/lyrics.
maybe good for the 90s. but just not enough to compete in todays world. -

Ok, so let me hear some bands you like and think can best metallica.
I'm not saying they are gods or anything, I just like their music.
And no competition? Maybe there wasn't as many bands as today, but there were still some bands.
1 hit wonder? WOW!
I hope you're trolling.
