I think, in order to successfully compete in todays metal, all you need is a 3 year old, preferably hyperactive, a cooking spoon and two kettles.

    Don't forget the make-up.
  • I like Metallica, because they have a variety in their music. They can go from something as heavy as The thing that should not be to something like The Unforgiven or Nothing Else Matters.

Personally, they just had a couple of bad albums. ie: Load and St. Anger. I don't consider Reload bad because they have songs like Fuel, The Memory Remains, Unforgiven II and Better than you.

Well, we all know Lars is an ******* after sueing Napsters. The rest are fine. But Robert is hella weird live.

The Metallica and Megadeth argument is stupid. Dave is doing fine with Megadeth. They're also not hating on each other anymore. Dave was a guest for Metallica's 30th anniversary show. But I do agree with Megadeth being more consistent than Metallica.

    Argument? psttt

Yeah, I wasn't really talking about that.
Just the fact that they are bands that get compared to each other often.
The only fighting between them now are the "fans".
  • I prefer Metallica over Megadeath. I do however, LOVE Mega's cover of the duke nukem theme. Now THAT is good metal.

metallica only sells tickets because of their name. not because of their music. they got their name because of that era of music was weak and empty. there was simply no competition allowing metallica to come in and make 'heavy' music (even though by todays standards, is rather weak) basically, if you have nothing good to listen to, you might as well listen to something.

metallica would not survive in this era. too generic, too much competition. they would be flipping burgers. currently to this day, they only have 1 good song. (enter sandman) they are considered by all intelligent music anylists to be a 1 hit wonder. the songs just all sound the same. his voice is just so boring and dull.

talent wise, they're okay. good drummer, decent guitars/base. below average singer/lyrics.
maybe good for the 90s. but just not enough to compete in todays world.
Normally I don't knock on people for sharing their opinions... but seriously? I'm beginning to wonder if you've listened to anything other than Enter Sandman. Decent guitars/bass? Those are probably the most influental guitar riffs and solos along with the bass guitar in thrash metal history, if not any metal sub-genre's history. As for the drumming, while Lars writes some pretty interesting stuff, he really is a boring drummer. Has absolutely no feel for the music. Does that mean I don't like him or mean he should be replaced? No, definitely not. Just watch him in live performances. It's like he's asleep half the time. Probably the most influental guitar riffs/solos from thrash metal in general are from their songs. As for Metallica not surviving in this era, explain their record of 5 albums debuting at number one on the Billboard 200. That's right, you can'.t Self explanatory. They're dominant alpha-males. Also, let's not forget they've sold over 100 million albums.
  • -Metallica has Not put out any good music since the " And Justice for All album " , the newest garbage should have Never been released

-Lars is a 120% spoiled little douchbag , it's hard to express in words how much I cant stand that person

-Megadeth still to this day releases intricate speed metal , plus Dave stays up on his politics ... I like that

    Justice? Are you stupid?

Have you forgot the Black Album?

Dave and politics? What a joke. Hey, let's start another riot in Ireland.
  • Black album , ehh

    - the black album was when metallica first fell flat on their face and never got back up , I tried to forget it , thx

    - Megadeth has had some Great Talent over the years , for instance Chris Brodrick , kirk doesnt even compare

    - Dave likes his Soapbox , and I like people who are not afraid to speak their mind

    - the boyz @ Megadeth still have Long hair , Lol

The black album is where they started to shift, but it still had some great tracks.

    Long hair matters?

    - granted a " few " good ones but they must have Downshifted too soon and blown the transmission

    - nah , the hair comment was just for Lols , you had to be there in the 80's

    - "flat on their face?" Sandman, Sad, Unforgiven, Nothing and Don't tread on me. How can those songs be Metallica's fall? Justice only had about 3 good songs in it. Eye of the Beholder, Harvester of Sorrow and One.

    - How does Chris > Kirk? Elaborate please. Only downside of Kirk that comes up to mind is the wah.

    - Speak their mind? When they have no clue as to what is going on in the globe, and only have the understanding of a 12 year-old.
  • Which reminds me, how is Death Magnetic?

I've heard it was a "comeback", but haven't listened to it.

Terribly mixed but otherwise pretty good. Everything is so loud on the album there's audio distortion and clipping from the compressed dynamic range. OVERLY, OVERLY OVERLY compressed dynamic range that is. Some really good guitar solos on the album.

Justice had more than 3 good songs. You're forgetting The Frayed Ends of Sanity. Easily my favorite song on the album.

    - Sandman is too simple of a song , dont tread on me was best riff on the album , all the other songs on the black album were just too melodic , kinda like chick music , A little girly for me but I'm glad you liked it

    - Megadeth's guitarists Chris Poland , Marty Freidman , & Chris Brodrick , are all very educated and have successful solo careers , kirk once again does not even compare to some of the talent that has passed through Megadeth over the years and would probably be nothing without mascaraka , must I elaborate more ?

Yet band-wise, Kirk has sold more albums with Metallica than all three of them have. Irony! That's what happens when you're in the top band in the business, you don't need a solo career. ;)
  • the new metallica album speaks for itself , there is better Heavy Metal out there to listen to ... you guys need to remember that I grew up in the 80's and have been a metalhead for a long time , I've followed many bands and metallica has not put out anything worthwhile for a Very long time

my vote is for Megadeth , and I'm just gonna leave it at that

    - That was the whole point of the Black Album - to be melodic.

-What do you mean on a solo career? They start their own band or what?

    - Good, you're probably a republican anyway.

Also, Lulu was not a Metallica album, it was Lou's album.

    -Edit-

We should just drop this. They are both good bands, and we have different opinions. Let's leave it at that.
  • Metallica is an excellent band, first four albums for sure...just like any band they eventually change their music which is not as appealling.

Take Iron Maiden for example, their last few ablums, well in my opinion just plain suck.

Metallica plays in a conserative style and tight yet able to generate an execellent sound. This is why they can sell out.

Long live Heavy Metal and Rock and Roll; screw Justin Bieber!
  • Thought for Today.

Felt I should re-post this thought.

Tis more for the short guitar solo tho <3

And speaking of guitar solos? I thought I'd slip in some Zappa!

If people really hate this Justin person, they really need to stop posting about how much they hate him so much. We are only keeping him alive.

That Zappa video freaked me out, but damn was it an epic song.
  • Anything past Black album sux.

They suck harder for crying about Napster.

They lost value when a Local radio sation here use too do Metallica Mondays. 1-2 songs every hour. Got REAL REAL OLD.

I don't like the people, but love the music.

The only time that happened (over playing Metallica) here was before the Big Four were coming to town.

IIRC, they did something called Metallica Mondays also.
  • Uh yeah, don't listen to this type of music. Get@meTrolls.

On the local radio station here (www.krab.com) they used to do this thing called Mandatory Metallica where they'd play 3 Metallica songs in a row at 8:00 PM.
