My New Rig

Hey guys

i've just received my new rig after a long time of w8ing coz some stupid problems with shipping

so it's :

CPU : Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.3 GHz

GPU : AMD Radeon HD 6970 2 GB DDR5 (With a free Dirt3 Copy)

MB : Gigabyte P61-USB3-B3

Ram : 8 GB (2×4) DDR3

Case : XP MK6S Black/Silver

Monitor : Samsung SyncMaster BX2231 22"

some pics :

+ 250 GB of games which i didn't try any of them yet

still have some problems coz i can't blug my old sata HD (which has all my games , prog & every thing) coz there is no mobile rack

so what do u think about it & how many fps am i going to get in cf ??

You should max it out on CF easily. Just remember that your GFX card makes no difference what so ever in CF, it's pretty much all down to the CPU.

people go from 40 fps to 200 by just changing their video card (or adding one obv)

Looks pretty solid.

Test it out by playing Crysis or Metro 2033 on full settings.

Thanks for ur replies guys , i get 200+ all the time (since 200 is the max fps i can get in cf)

i am going to add another 500 GB HD soon since this one became full xD

but it works perfectly & much better than my old sh1t

Adding a video card is very different to just changing one.

Simply by adding a dedicated card, and not using on-board, you're freeing up a hefty fraction of CPU and RAM usage. That's where the FPS increase mainly comes from.

The only thing this game cares for GPU wise, is which resolution you run it at.

Actually I get the same FPS no matter what resolution I run. I play on 800x600 because I don't care how the game looks but my FPS stays the same no matter what I run. And Rory you're completely wrong on that theory. When I got this PC I had literally under 30 FPS in CF and bought a GT 430 video card and my FPS is 120-150 in 8V8 games now.

There's no point buying 6970, waste of money.

Buy 6950, flash it to 6970. Save almost 100$.
Just a tip.

But that's pretty damn nice rig, I'm gonna build pretty much same the rig @April.

Mmm, this is so close to mine. Although, my only change is graphics card to Radeon 6850.

Still good enough to give me seizures.

Can't wait lol, already ordered it from TigerDirect, getting it within a week.

In that case the main reason for your large FPS increase would be put down to the fact that by adding a dedicated GPU, you've released a good percentage of your CPU, and a decent proportion of your RAM, to be used elsewhere.

Where on-board lacks in it's own resources, it draws from your CPU and RAM. It's why I always recommend buying a dedicated GPU if you have a pre-build, even if it's just a $15 one.

But hey, I guess that's why you suggested that 6950 over the 6870, right? 2fps is totally worth $100 more, especially since he wouldn't have enough money left for a monitor to play any games on anyway.

It's actually 5-10 more fps in most games, and if you have the money why not? Didn't you pay like $80 for a mouse with positive acceleration? Holy cow you're dumb as a rock.

One benchmark out of thousands of games? Do I really have to waste my time with searching benchmarks of the 6950 pulling in roughly 5-10 more fps's in popular games and post it into this pathetic thread? You aren't good with computers.

Better Scalability

Better at Higher Resolutions (more vram)

Better Relative Performance

Sure he'll have marginally higher fps in some games, not enough to justify $100, but that's rather pointless if he can't see them.

You pretty much outed yourself as an inexperienced rig builder.

It's not a matter of me getting that $100, it's a matter of the person who's paying for the rig getting that $100. Since adding your GPU to that build tipped the budget just under $970, I'd be very pleased if you could find me a brand new 1920x1080 monitor which he'll play his games on for $30.

I'll patiently await your reply with said monitor in the morning, must dash, work tomorrow.
