Well, if you use the m12, chances are you're gonna be called a noob. When you use an M4, people will for the most part respect you a tad bit more.
m12 has the range of an AK with the accuracy of a sniper rifle with the RoF of a rocket launching to space and the recoil of a vibrating phone. I'm still wondering what the dev's/z8 are thinking to have a weapon like that be available to anyone for GP..
M4 has great accuracy, great range, a good RoF and a controllable recoil. It's very well-balanced and fun to use. The reload to me is a little sluggish, but it's still do-able. -

With m12 you will get kicked and you wont gain any skills.
With m4 you can practice almost everything.
m12s is not the weapon you need, try k2/aug/qbz/ak47. There are plenty more guns. -

I suggest going for a different gun rather than the m12. I used to have it and yes I did very well with the weapon, however, if you use it as your primary weapon for everyday games, you will end up loosing your skill to control recoil. It took me quite a while to be able to use the K-2 or any other assault rifle after selling the m12. So I do not suggest obtaining the weapon unless you're using it to blow off some steam. Then again, if you're skilled with an M4 already, you should be able to blow off steam with that gun instead.
Try other assult rifles like an AK or a Ruger to be challenging.. For me, the game's only fun when I'm using a difficult weapon. Using a easy weapon like the m12 makes this game rather boring.. -

If you want to gain skills you play with every weapon, because if you play with m12s its all different than m4.

No skill = m12
skill = M4
If you are skilled with an M4, you shouldn't down-grade to an M12. You should try more difficult weapons like an AK-47.
Or if you really want to use a SMG, use a K1A or a MP5. -

If you want to actually get better at the game buy an m4a1. Once you get better at the game, decent clans may want to recruit you. I can guarantee that no decent clan will try recruiting you in-game just because you're doing well with an m12s.
If you want to just spray and get easy kills (and get kicked sometimes for using the m12s), then use the m12s. You'll never get any better at the game though.

If you want to try the XM8 or the M4A1 out, try playing at Alaska. It has both of them there. What the guide can't tell you, playing with it can.
Something to note:
The XM8 does 100% damage through most boxes and wood (some people think it was reduced to 80% but that hasn't been proven and I haven't tested it).
The M4A1 does very little damage through boxes. -

1 bag had an m4a1 silver in it
1 bag had an xm8-adv in it
1 bag had an fr-f2 in it
1 bag had an ak-47 gold in it

-people will call you a noob
-it can bring down skill a little bit
-easy SMG kills for the badge
m12s (counter use):
basically what it means is that you can counter another noob gun user using m12s (or any other noob gun). therefore, the chances of people calling you a noob is significantly lower. however, there are still times where other players will call you a noob because youre using an m12 even if youre countering. to fight back, tell them that there is a person on your team who is also using a noob gun.
M4A1:
-good gun
-average CF gun
overall, you should get the M4 first. however, if you have a number of assualt rifles then
go for the m12 -
