The Whisper Window
You ever start talking to somebody via whispers and then you change channels, join/be in a game or some other unfortunate event that happens to cause you to miss what was said and got frustrated from having to ask them to repeat or missing it altogether? Then let me bring you the Whisper Window.
Unlike the PM system in Crossfire, this is a live feed of only whispers sent by or directed to you and is not able to be used for public chat. Like the normal chat window it will contain the log of all thats been said until you either log out or you clear it via the typical /d command or an added clear button. This will allow you to also check messages throughout the day while playing even if you missed them or need to refer back to them for some reason.
This function would be implemented into the same window as a new tab under the Friends/Clan/PMs button for ease of access.
How else is this beneficial?
Well, there's a number of other instances where people wish to whisper you but can't or you simply don't see them. For instance with this function, you would finally be able to see whispers while browsing the Storage, Black Market or in the Item Shop so that even when you are even quickly switching weapons that you won't miss out on whispers from people.
This is also handy for getting whispers while reviewing a replay or in spectating mode. Though while not being able to see them in game like so; they will at least be viewable after you finish such via this function to at least check to and reply afterwards. (Until they implement such features.)

I really dislike popups so I would like any solution that wouldn't open a new window. if that is possible I would welcome this idea.
i thought of that as well, but theres a few key issues with that.
There would need to be a complete UI overhaul in order to implement it in every screen possible. (which i honestly doubt they would take the time to do)
Secondly, how or where would it retain it that is accessible everywhere without it being cleared like normal chat does.
The button presented is accessible everywhere except in game, hence why it was originally put there. -

Sadly we can only make polls upon thread creation, we can't add them after.
Besides, it would bring unfair attention to my idea abusing my moderator ability to display my suggestion over the others. So I don't think it would have been fair. -

Fair is a place where you get cotton candy!
but yeah the current chat system is horrible at best it needs to be something like mirc, any improvement would be good for the community atmosphere. Talon I love you in a non sexual way, you have lots of really good ideas. -

It's not an unfair advantage, if people want polls for their threads they can just PM a mod and get the mod to make it for them (or so i've heard). -

I Do Not Believe So Because Most Of The People Who Have Read This Thread Support It And So I See No Power Abuse In Turning This Awesome Work Of Art Into A Poll -

but couldn't we use xfire for most of this?
Xfire while nice, is running an additional unnecessary program that you should already have access too.
Secondly, Xfire only covers those in your contacts. Anyone else has to know your name and add you. This being in Crossfire, people just have to know your name and whisper you, usually the same method they would before without needing an external name and program to contact you.
For instance, if I were to whisper you a GP code but you left the room the moment I did, you would have missed it. The tool presented would allow you to go 'hey, its still in this window, sweet, i didn't lose out on my code'.
Just an example. But its for other practical and general uses. -

I don't use XFIRE, so this would help me a lot. ( If I had people to whisper to.

I like the idea, but not for when you are spectating. It would have to be set up so you can't whisper the people who are playing in the game you are currently spectating. Your buddy could whisper you where the enemy is... not fair play. (Yes, I know you can use vent and ghost that way too, but that makes them dirty, dirty men/women.)

You misinterpreted what I meant by that section.
You won't see the whispers while spectating or in replays, however people will still be able to whisper you even while there, so that upon your return from viewing you can respond appropriately to what was sent to you without worrying it being missed completely due to the lack of function. -
I always thought there should be a small chat field while storage/black market for whispering but this idea is better in a way because you'll never miss a whisper when switching channels or while a game loads. Not to mention it would be much easier to implement I'm sure. +1 Talon. You always got the good ideas.
