I've tried everything. -.-
Alright, so this is my first time using the CF forums, but I had no other choice. I installed CF, and all that happens is when I open it is the game becomes a square in the top left of teh screen. The Game is NOT in Windowed mode. Also, I can still see my taskbar (menu bar at bottom of screen) On my old Windows Vista PC, the game worked fine. But on this new W7 pc, it wont work.
I have redownloaded AND reinstalled it. I would love if someone could help me. ):

First, restart the computer. Second, check your task manager to see if anything is running that shouldn't be. Third, try messing with your adware/spyware/antivirus program(s). In my case, I had to lower my security settings to play Crossfire. Fourth, if your screen is black when you see the window, wait a minute (literally a minute) before closing Crossfire. Fifth, put your cursor over the window, hold your mouse buttons down then try to move the window somewhere other than where it is. If it moves, then it's a different thing altogether. Sixth, reset your computer settings so that it focuses on performance of the computer. Seventh, run the program as administrator by right clicking on the icon and selecting run as administrator (actually do this first).

Ok, its sad to say I have tried all of this. Running as admin. I've restarted my pc. Turned OFF Norton AV completely. And the window isnt black when i open it.. But, I think you may need to know, when its open, at the bottom of the screen on my taskbar, it doesn't show the "CF" picture, it shows like the white square with the lines. kinda hard to understand) and when I hit the windows button to minimize it, it doesnt go own. so the only way to hget it away is buy exiting the game. -

THose are a SS. Look at the icon for CF on the taskbar. -
I don't know if that screen icon is on EVERY windows operating system but what I do know is that white box icon is the normal icon for Crossfire (windows 7). If you close it, it may close the client.
Without having any windows opens, right click on the desktop. Select "Resolution Settings" from the menu bar that comes up. Screenshot the next part that comes up. Afterwards, click on "detect" and/or "identify" - please screenshot those as well. I doubt this will be the problem but it's worth covering the bases; my operating system is the same and it was able to configure my resolution perfectly.
In the resolution drop down menu, look at the various resolution sizes. For a square screen (a non-widescreen monitor), try changing it to 1024x768 or 1280x1024. For widescreen, try 1280x768 or 1600x1024. Hit Apply; if the screen goes blank or shows up really weird, just wait a few seconds and it'll return to normal and you can try a different resolution. When you find one that works, hit ok. Try restarting your game with the new resolution settings; if you weren't able to find the area I mentioned above, try these step-by-step instructions - you will be able to get where you need to go.
NOTE: Changing the screen resolution will change your screen appearance.
1. Right-click on your desktop.
2. Click Properties (or Personalize if you are on Vista or Windows 7).
3. Click the Settings tab on the top (Display Settings if you are on Vista or Windows 7).
4. Check the screen resolution.
5. If it is not 1024 by 768 (FOR WIDESCREEN, see the resolution I mentioned above), move the slider until the screen resolution is set to 1024 by 768.
6. Click Apply and OK and then try playing the game. -
Also, I think I was unclear as to the original problem. My assumption was that the game loaded but wouldn't play. Could you please walk me through the process?
1. When you try to log into Crossfire - are you successful?
2. When the client loads, are you able to start games?
3. If you can start a match/game, does the screen expand to full window mode after you select join?
4. When you select join - does the window you see in the top left screen immediately flash off then on to a black screen? -
Okay Engineer. I'll try the things on your first post in a second. But, ill explain what happens.
I click the CF icon on my desktop. It opens, on the top left of my screen as shown in the SS. I can log in and play in games and everything is fine though, but i just cant get it to go into the size of my screen. I have tried changing every resolution in game. I'd also liek to note, when I join a match, it gets a little bitter.
When i join a match, if my resolution ingame is set to...
on 800x600 it gets smaller.
on 1024x700 (or whatever the second number is..) is gets a tinny bit bigger.
on the first wide option it goes about half my screen.
and on the last wide screen resolution it goes to almost my entire screen, its just cut off at the right. Tell me if you need a SS. -
Hooray! I went to the resolution thing and tried 1280x720, and it went fullscreen !!
Also, since you asked, the resolution im always on and its recommended it 1600x900 ( the highest one) except when i start cf on the one, you know the problem.
Except theres some bad things, when i am on other resolutions it works fine, but i cant minimize the game, if i hit the windows key it just doesnt minimize or bring up the taskbar.
Could you explain why it doesn't work in 1600x900 but all my other games do?
Also, is there a way to make it work in 1600x900?
Thanks for the help btw though on helping me to atleast be able to play the game how its supposed to be. -
Honestly, over the past couple of years, I've never been able to minimize Crossfire when I'm playing. It doesn't matter what operating system or computer I've used. When I'm successful at doing it, the game locks up and I have to restart the game.
I do not have an answer for that one, sorry.
