Dear Avast! Free / AVG Free users - FILE IS CHANGED ERRORS
It seems like that with the newest Avast! / AVG update the crossfire.exe file is being detected as a malware. This is obviously a false positive.
And so the anti-virus protection certainly moved the file to the quarantine folder, and you probably won't be able to launch the game due to the following error:

- Uninstall the game completely
- Disable your antivirus' realtime protection
- Redownload the game
- Install the game
- Add the entire crossfire folder to your antivirus exceptions
- Re-enable realtime protection
If you downloaded the game with your antivirus active, it may be 'cleaning' the rez file upon download.
The source File is corrupted
This is similar to the previously mentioned "File is changed" error. If your antivirus software's realtime scanner is active while you are downloading the game, it could result in corruption of the download. Temporarily disable your realtime scanner, then redownload the game client. Keep realtime scanning disabled while you install the game. Make sure to add the entire Crossfire folder to your antivirus' exceptions list before you re-enable the realtime scanner.
And please remember that:

Thx a lot. -
Thnx for what? For having to download whole game again?
I just uninstalled AVG and it does no good. Same error message appears:
HGWC
File is changed : W[2007] L[2]
crossfire.exe
Do I really have to re-download and re-install? Isn't there some file or something that can be replaced? Come on....
Please? -

Bye, dumb BR.
Just switch to a different anti virus, my new one does much better and has no problems running CF. -
Had the same problem, 'file is changed:w[2007]L[2]'
-Open your avast >maintence>virus chest
-you should see this line in the virus list,
C:\program files\z8 games\crossfire, listed as a virus Win32: Malware.gen
-Right click>choose restore>overwrite all.
-I didn't have to uninstall or reinstall anything, works fine now.
Hopes this helps someone,if it does ,please reply.
I belive the reason this happened was because I manually started a scan of my pc and then this showed up,I'm using Avast Antivirus.
THANKS -
