who needs real friends? i'd invest in 9 robot-friends, all of them able to tell me random stories through the day, along with jokes, and the ability to make me pasta.

You just defeated your whole argument because you acknowledged that these people become your "friends".
The whole discussion is not whether or not they will stay friends, but if money can buy friends, Which you just proved.

no not really "friends" is a vague word, it can be described in many ways, but like said, a true friend will be your friend for who you are, if they are just your "friend" because of economic status, they really aren't your friends, but in the eyes of this rich person they may seem to be your "friends" -
