I Need A New Computer.

Hey peeps. I think it's time for me to buy a new computer. My current one is around 10 years old.. When I start Crossfire up it takes around 3 mins and when I join and finish a game it takes around 2 minutes each, so sometimes I miss half of the match. Do any of you have any suggestions of which computer i should get? My Mum doesn't want to spend too much. Nothing over £300/400. Thanks for the help. ♥

Please post in the correct sections. It's pretty easy to understand what thread goes where. You've already posted multiple threads in a short amount of time and have posted them all in the same place. Each section has a short description of what goes in each section. Suggestions is for suggestions, Off Topic is for things unrelated to CrossFire, Clan Recruitment & Discussion is for Clan Recruitment and Discussion, etc. -

You'll get more for you're money if you buy parts and build it yourself, apparently.
But if he wants one already built only one i can remeber is this one.

so just choose one from here

DELL/Alienware sell computers overpriced. My cousin bought a laptop thats worth $1000-$1200 if you buy from a computer company (ASUS, Gigabyte, etc), but bought it for $1500 + tax + shipping from DELL.
Stopped by at futureshops today to look at some headsets & stopped by at the desktop computer section for 30 seconds. A gateway PC for $1399.99 wit these specs:
- Core i7-2600K (cheaper locked multiplyer CPU; not the "K" version)
- GeForce GTX 560 Ti
- Intel H67 motherboard
- 16GB DDR3 1333MHz (generic brand)
- 2TB HDD
- W7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM
- Generic 750W power supply (saw a glimps of the inside)
You could build an identical one for ~$1000.
- i7-2600 = $299.99
- 8GB G. Skill 1333MHz RAM (basic modules) X 2 = $43.99 X2 -> $87.98
- Intel H67 motherboard = $99.99
- GeFroce GTX 560 Ti = $204.99
- Hitachi 2TB HDD = $119.99
- LG DVD-RW = $7.99
- Generic (Diablotek?) 750W power supply = $59.99
- card reader = $7.99
- OEM w7 Pro 64-bit = $139.99
Total cost: $1,028.90
Building a custom PC would mean:
- cost less for the same or better performance
- Customizable; you need to upgrade down the road, go ahead
- Won't run into the "download" the gimped modded drivers/BIOS from DELL or w/e that barely gets updated. AMD graphics card, download drivers directly from AMD.
- Ability to overclock. OEM built PCs have the overclocking/most BIOS features disabled/removed/locked-up.
- No bloatware. No useless pre-installed programs, advertisements, files that slow down your PC and take up hard drive space. -
Buy the new dell precise series, there wholesome!

He is basically telling you to make your own PC rather than buying one.
That way you can save bunch of money and know your computer inside and out. -

Personally Its not that hard.
I made my 1st build without coming across any problem that been said.
First research on Key components.
If not sure ask DeathXGod or TASTELIMMES for some help.
and before you build computer from scratch watch youtube video showing the Do's and Dont when your buidling a new computer. The Newegg Channel on youtube gives you more than enough info on that. -

Um, considering this guy's mom is buying everything, I'm guessing he's a little young or doesn't know much about PC power or specs, let alone how to build one on top of it. I suppose we should suggest something pre-built with OS so it'd be easier for him. Well, if the OP is a male.
DesiKidNo1, before you go out and click the links people sent you, I suggest you spend a good month, maybe a week if you are very comprehensive to go learn more about PCs, people can rip you off so this knowledge will definitely benefit you in the future. Anyway, sorry but I don't have anything to suggest you, I'm used to just suggesting parts, not so savvy in the pre-built department. :X -

Wait, maybe you can suggest parts then? :P Im thinking of making one now, but I need the parts from PC World/Comet/Currys
If im going to build one, Im going to need all the help I can get

Dude Many Companies Use ebay so sell pcs, they are like any other company using the ebay franchise
Think how many views you would get on products rather than your own website.
Ebay is normally trust worthy and some times pc companies on the web aren't -

Well, if you're really dedicated you'll be able to learn everything you need to in 2 weeks or less, maybe just 1 week to learn about building since I'm suggesting parts.
Anyway, I checked out those sites and it seems they don't sell separate parts, only hard drives, and monitors outside pre-built computers. If your mother really is getting a nice rebate off of those sites, it might be worth it to buy a pre-built. Ask her about it. Like I stated, I can't find spare parts besides monitors and hard drives from those providers, but I can still suggest a build within your budget.
Before I go off, you need to tell me if you want a complete overhaul or not. Do you already have a monitor, mouse, pad, and keyboard that you want to keep which you can hook up to a new computer? If so, excellent. Also, do you want to keep your current hard drive with all the data and put it in your new build, or do you want a new hard drive and transfer the data? Lastly, do you plan on gaming heavily on this computer besides CrossFire, recording videos, editing, and so on? If you plan on gaming, list some games and the ideal FPS you want it to run on.
Lastly, can you shoot me a PM with your current PC specs and motherboard? You wrote yourself you don't know much about computers, perhaps you can go online and if you have windows, search "how to get DxDiag" then follow the steps. After you get the report just copy and paste everything into a PM for me, regardless if you know what it means or not. It would be a tremendous help. There's a chance you can save over a hundred euros (I'm in the US, so I'm just estimating based on conversion rates) if it turns out you only need an upgrade and not a new PC all together. I doubt it will be just a upgrade because you say it's 10 years old, CPU sockets and slots have changed. Still, there's the case and fans.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, do you still have your Windows key or CD? If you do, you won't have to buy a new OS.
No offense, but I laughed so hard at this. You have it backwards, PC companies on the web are normally trustworthy because they have support, testimonials, and are secured by VeriSign or some other encryption. It's some Ebay listings that are bad because anyone can sell something, you can easily be scammed. At least with a PC company, you can also file a legal case without any hoops to jump through or having to go through Ebay's buyer dispute crap.nachoooooooh wrote: »Ebay is normally trust worthy and some times pc companies on the web aren't
Plus, PC companies can get more traffic off their own sites. -

Thanks! Now I don't need to find European equivalents of American sellers, I have 1 on the list at least.
I still need an answer from the OP to my post before I can recommend parts.

Umm okay, I'll do that now, but I would like a new computer that I can put in my room because the current one is downstairs, so it would be nice to lay on my bed and be on the computer ^^ But if there are any ways that I can make my current computer better then I wouldn't mind doing that and saving a couple hundred pounds!

Wait, I didn't get that
1. You can use your TV as a monitor, but everything will have to be set up close to the TV, and you'll just have to buy extra cables.
2. Do you don't play any games more demanding than CrossFire?
3. To see if all you need is a computer upgrade, I need to know your specifications. Computer specs go into detail about the computer processor, sound system, GPU, etc. If you have Windows on your computer, you can run something called a DirectX Diagnostic, abbreviated as DxDiag. This thing will produce a document of all your computer's specifications. IF you don't already know how to do it, you can go online and search how to get a DxDiag report. When you save all your information, juts copy everything from "System Information" to "Sound Display Devices" and paste it into a PM for me. If you're having trouble, I can TeamView you.
4. So, you need a new mouse and keyboard to if you can't upgrade your old one?
5. Sometimes, when you get a new computer, the manufacturer will include a Windows CD or product key so if you need to reinstall your OS you can just insert the slot or enter the product key, and you won't have to buy a new copy. If you don't have it, considering it's been 10 years apparently, just tell me what Windows you currently have and I will suggest that too, since you'll be comfortable with it.
Since you're 17, I trust you'll be careful and responsible once I link you the parts you should buy, but anyone should read up on computers before they build, and be ready with all the precautions before they assemble their parts. It'll be my third time building a computer after school starts here, trust me, it's not hard as long as you do your research. It's a nice skill or trade to pick up too, since you can save a lot of money this way or get a better computer for your cash.

At the moment I don't because of the state of my computer, but In the future I probably will
Yes I do
Umm, Windows XP? xD
Ahhh okay, I won't have that much time to research because schools starts on Monday

Well pull out da mother board get like a intel 7 or sumthing then get 4-10gbs of ram and a really nice graphic card and you should be set with like 140 ~ 180 FPS
Total cost (US): Around 220$~350$ Depending were you get it!
350 USD for Mobo+ i7 + Nice GPU? hmm where do u buy ur PC parts, sir?
why would u need more than 75 FPS in CF anyways?
w/e... a cheap CPU + GPU combo would be an AMD 640 and a HD 5670. They both can run CoD4 at 125 FPS stable, so obv it will run this..uhmm, not so good graphically game. -
I was watching gadget show the other day and they bought a really cheap desktop and just bought decent parts. Im thinking I should buy a really cheap desktop of E-Bay and then just use the Comet/Currys/PC World vouchers to buy the seperate parts? If they sell them that is..
-
guys, im guessing he also needs an OS included.
pb.com - win 7 ult...nuff said.
OT: best to build your own, i got mine that i use for about £320, and it maxxes out cf easily.
(does not include surround sound speakers//headset - all other peripherals included in the price...)
