xtrap [08-0400-00000000-517] error

Hey there, since three days now I get the following error message:

[08-0400-00000000-517]
Some functions of the operating system has been corrupted. Please close any program that is affecting the game client and restart the system.

First of all, I tried closing every program that isn't essential for my windows system, still nothing. I performed a clean un-/reinstall of Crossfire, deleting the two remnant folders that are left behind after uninstalling CF before reinstalling it, nothing. I didn't make any changes to my system, except for uninstalling my scanner drivers, but I don't see how this should affect the goddamn xtrap thingy.
I have active exceptions in my firewall and antivirus software for the whole cf folder incl. subfolders. I even tried disabling firewall and antivirus to see if that might change anything, still nothing. I even tried setting up a 2nd admin account in windows, because I read that there have been issues with that in the past, but to no avail. I do not use, nor have I ever used some hacking bull****, I hate hackers and I especially hate that xtrap seems to be unable to keep them out of the game -.-
Now, for no reason AT ALL it won't let me start cf and I really am out of options here.

If anyone has a suggestions, help would be extremely appreciated!

  • Also, I have not added or removed any software, that previously posed a problem for xtrap ^^
  • This is a problem with your OS, as stated, there is some corruption in there. Probably resetting your computer with system restore, or possible farther back with factory settings, might be the solution.

NOTE: If you attempt to revert to factory settings, all programs, files, anything added after that first day will be removed. It is like a cleanup, but all the way back to day 1. The warning has been given, back up you files as needed before performing this.
  • same thing happened to me, ive gotten this error for a couple days. I don't really believe anything the error says though, I haven't made any changes to the computer that would cause this. It seems like every time there is a patch, Xtrap gives me an error, and I just have to wait for Xtrap people to fix it.
If you want my advice, don't do anything drastic with your computer, these kinds of errors usually come from problems with the program itself rather than the computer. A bunch of people have gotten this error, so hopefully Xtrap will come out with a mini-update soon that will fix it.
  • Thanks you two, for giving me your opinion on this.
I thought about resetting my computer or make a fresh installation of windows, but honestly, I really wonder why it should be CF of all programs, that is detecting a "corruption" in my OS. Everything else runs fine.
I know about backing up files and such before setting it back to an earlier date and so forth, but thx for the advice anyway ;)
I'll just wait another few days and see if there will be an xtrap update... *deeply sigh*

If anyone should stumble on more information about this problem, please post it here. Hours of google and searching message boards turned up nothing of use for me, unfortunately.

Have yourselves a nice weekend, and thx again!
